As a student of the University of Hong Kong and a person who lives in dorm, I had to check out Yee Kee which is the go to for many HKUers. I got the 5 colour noodles, ice box cake, milk tea, mango sago etc. Too many to count. The 5 colour noodles were served cold and was actually not bad. It definitely exceeded my expectations. There was ham, imitation crab meet, veggies and egg. My only complaint was that there wasn’t enough sauce and salt to really give it flavour. Got a little dry at parts The ice box cake was cold and not too sweet. The other desserts were on the sweeter side but still satisfying. As a student, I see why people would want to come here. After all the food we had consumed that day we decided to head over for some dessert. We choose Urban Ice Cream Waffle and a waffle with chocolate pear on the side. The urban ice cream waffle was somewhat disappointing. The waffle on top was very thin and you could not really taste it at all. The ice cream itself was very icy and there was not flavour to it. The waffle with chocolate pear on the side was okay. The waffle itself was very light and crunchy but the chocolate pear on the side was cold and didn’t add anything to the dish itself. I was looking for some KBBQ to satisfy my craving and we stumbled onto this place. We ordered two orders of the pork BBQ and also got the lunch box and soy bean paste soup. The side dishes were all very good and there was tons of variety as well. The pork itself was okay nothing special. The lunch box was very fun to shake up and mash up. But the overall flavour of the place only deserves a 6/10 Nothing particularly memorable but nothing that totally threw me off either The soy bean soup was actually pretty flavourful and somewhat authentic according to my Korean friend.…查看更多

We came around 3pm and it was quite empty thankfully. We saw the Squid ink mari on the menu so we had to get it. It was definitely a visually appealing dish. The black contrasted with the white plate. In terms of flavour it was not bad either. You could not really taste the squid ink but I could taste the squid. Not bad not bad – 7/10 Moving onto the fried platter. It was definitely a total disaster. Some of them were too sweet others were just lacking flavour. By the end of eating this plate I couldn’t even tell or even recall what was what anymore. I’d heard lots about this place from all over the internet so I had to come and check it out for myself. The wait was around 15 minutes but it went by pretty quickly. It looks intimidating at first but I guess it was pretty rewarding. I love the customizability at Ilan and the fact that I don’t need to interact with other humans to get my meal. I mean of course I love talking to people but sometimes I just my noodles with no fuss. The noodles came quickly and the sight was just glorious. It was just me and my noodles. Now time for some alone time. The noodles itself were cooked nicely and the broth was good. My only complaint is that the portion is slightly smaller than what I am used to back home. I was passing by with my friend and we were on the hunt for dessert so we decided to check out this place. I had seen a lot of Instagram posts on this so of course I had to give it a try. Overall it was pretty disappointing. The matcha flavour was not that strong and it could have been creamier. The little cakes on top were somewhat dry and the green tea filling in it was again not very noticeable. 6/10 Would not be back for it again.…查看更多

I was on Openrice looking for some good eats in Kennedy Town and stumbled upon this Indian restaurant. We got there at around 6 and it was absolutely empty. We were the first customers of the day. I got a Mango Lassi – Which was not bad – very creamy and quench relieving: 7/10 We also got some samosas which I found the crust to be slightly dry and hard instead of flakier and buttery. 6/10 The filling was mainly potatoes We chose a lamb curry for our main curry dish and it was not very spicy. It was on the milder side with a slight hint of tomato. - 7/10 Also got the Prawn Biryani which was somewhat dry – but there were a good amount of prawns. The rice itself was okay not much flavour. 6.5/10 The Paratha was nicely charred but on the smaller side for the price. Overall: Okay – not bad but would not be coming back again.…查看更多

We waited around 10 minutes for a table even though we did make reservations. I ordered the Grapefruit drink and visually it was appealing but taste wise it was just okay. We also ordered the bimbimbap. I liked the idea of serving seaweed with this dish because it works well with the wrapping of the rice. The portion was good and everything and the flavours were okay but my biggest complaint was that it was too dry. It needed some sauce. Moving onto the star of the meal was the Andong Chicken with cheese. The chicken was not as tender as I would have liked it. The sauce was on the saltier side with a bit of a sweetness to it. This is one of those hype but consistently hyping places. People are constantly talking about it so I had to check out it out. Did it live up to the hype? Is it worth the 10 minute or so line? I would say – yes. Why? Because here, it’s all about the atmosphere It’s about the rude servers, the classic menu and the down to earth – no frill food. Is it heavenly food? – the breakfast set of scrambled eggs, toast, macaroni and ham – scrambled eggs yes – everything else – meh and that’s how its supposed to be. The heavenly part – the double boiled custard – just heavenly. So smooth, not too sweet and just the right amount of richness. I would come back just for the double boiled custard. The atmosphere of people moving in and out of a restaurant is just what Hong Kong is about. It’s about constant movement – which is why the line moves so fast, it’s about the down to earth food, it’s all part of the Hong Kong experience, Hong Kong lifestyle.…查看更多

Egg Tarts Egg Tarts Egg tarts. Give me my egg tarts! The classic Hong Kong breakfast – macaroni and sausage and eggs and ham It’s filling and a Hong Kong must eat. It’s definitely the epitome of Hong Kong fusion food. It’s not exactly western and its not exactly Chinese. It’s Hong Kongnese. The flavours were just alright, nothing special. The egg tarts from this place are supposedly famous but I didn’t really like the tart part because the butter crust lacked crunchiness on the bottom – it was soggy. After wonton noodles I was really craving dessert so I decided on a pear cake with a cappuccino. What did I observe today? – a group next to me doing a little afternoon teaing The barista – sounding like he was talking with his girlfriend He recommended the pear cake so we went for it. It was alright, nothing special. Very comfortable and cute café, but unable to do people watching because I was sitting at a table instead of in front of the window. Tsim Chai Kee is definitely a tourist place. It’s been renovated, its comfortable and they have an English menu (that’s the definite clue). Wonton Noodles with Wontons is definitely a comfort food for me. I can’t live without it. I don’t think Tsim Chai Kee uses the method of using a stick to beat the noodles but the noodles were still pretty bouncy. They had a good amount of flavour. The soup though was fairly disappointing. It tasted very MSG-like and was WAY TOO SWEET. The wontons had a fair bit of bite to it and the shrimp had that snap to it. Fatty Crab My question is, why does one always remember the bad experience and not the good things? Anime Star drink – the picture was kind of inappropriate so I won’t post a picture of it on here but just think. Graphic. We came here for happy hour expecting to have cheaper food, like the cheap Asians we are, but unfortunately it was not the case. I believe only the drinks are cheaper at this time and only some of them not all. We came before it opened apparently, although their times state otherwise. What really bothered me as that they knew that we were waiting and yet when it was officially opened they didn’t even us any attention. We finally ASKED to be seated which is a definite bummer. For an ENTIRE HOUR, there was no one in the restaurant but us and yet service was not attentive which was good because I liked that but also bad because it was hard to get their attention when we needed them. We started off with the oysters which were delicious and I believe half price. They were juicy but not too big to swallow. Nicely shucked. Then arrived the Scotch Egg which was a delight to look at. The meat on the outside was a bit too salty for me which was unfortunate. The egg was beautifully done though and the vegetables on the side were the highlight. The veggies were a good balance of sour and salty. Then the finally – the gua bao (braised pork belly, soft boiled egg and house srirachi) It was delicious but it got soggy pretty quickly from the sauce. The house srirachi was a very nice touch – it added a great kick to it. The pork belly was melt in your mouth tender but the soft boiled egg added a bit too much richness to it. The problem with this dish was that it lacked freshness (yes you could add the veggies on the side) but I meant the pickled freshness and a bit more crunch (like from peanuts or something). The part that upset me the most was how much they charged us for water. They asked me if I wanted sparkling or still and I should have known that they weren’t going to serve us tap water. I guess its partly my fault but I’m just disappointed a restaurant would not be clearer about such things. They could have said sparkling, still or tap. Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao 翡翠拉麵小籠包 Came here with family so I only took pictures of the dumplings and from what I remember they were quite nice. But I felt that the skin could have been thinner. The overall flavour of the dumplings were good though.…查看更多

Oddies Oddies has been all over the Instagram, so I had to come and check it out. The place was much smaller than I had anticipated. There’s no where to sit or even move almost. Luckily they are expanding and moving to a bigger location later on. Now, is it worth the hype, or is it only worth the picture? Only worth the picture for the Instagram likes. Why? Because it just didn’t taste that great. I got the loner (no jokes please) and it was overall not great. It was too sweet, the pineapple flavour tasted somewhat like pineapple cake but other than that there was no substance no depth to it. The ice cream tasted like it had come out of a box and the fruits were definitely not fresh. The waffle itself was not very appealing. It didn’t have the nice crunch on the outside and the chewiness and egginess to it. Instead it was just overall – mushy? Texturally lacking Overall: 5.5/10 – very disappointed…查看更多
