It was starting to get a bit cooler in Hong Kong and when that happens I start to get attracted to hot meals like hot pot and steaming bowls of noodles.Boyfriend and I were in this area as I thought the brands and product expo at Victoria Park had started. Boyfriend and I were in this area as I thought the brands and product expo at Victoria Park had started. But apparently we were a day early. Instead of walking back to Causeway Bay, we decided to just eat in this area and found this place (馬祖養生湯麵館 no English name) to be new. It wasn't very big but it was also pretty busy.
It served noodles with a focus that their soup was made using Chinese medicine. Definitely warming and nourishing for the soul. For those that want rice, they have the option of having the soup with rice. They also have some Taiwanese items as well.
Menu is in Chinese. There is an English one upon request. There is no 10% service charge. The menu also has photos of all the food as well. Items do not come with a drink but they have an option to add $10 for most drinks in the drinks menu.
I had their signature. Drunken Chicken in medicinal soup noodles ($55). All noodles have a choice of vermicelli or rice noodles or add $2 for Taiwanese flat noodles. I had vermicelli and it was pretty decent. It stayed chewy and didn't get soggy. The soup was obviously the star. Rich in flavor without the medicinal ingredients being too over powering. I noted dates and golgi berries that enhanced the sweetness of the soup. The chicken had a nice firmness to it but yet not dry. Portion was huge as well.
Boyfriend had the chicken with spicy tomato soup ($59). He ordered the lowest spice level and he said his mouth was on fire. It was pretty spicy for him and he can't imagine what the other levels will be like. He added $2 for the Taiwanese flat noodles and he said they seemed to give him a bigger portion of noodles than I had. The noodles were ok. Al dente and really soaked up the soup. The soup itself had a rich tomato taste but as it was spicy, he thinks it covered up some of the taste with all the spice.
The place is clean. The food was pretty good and huge portions as well. Price not expensive and we rolled out of there warm and full. As it's near enough to where I live, I would be back. I wonder if they have lunch and afternoon tea sets?
