My freind once told me that Kau Kee is the authority on beef brisket, the Mecca for noodle enthusiasts, and the gold standard by which all noodle shops should be judged.

It has ocurred to me that the appeal of Kau Kee is enhanced by the fact that it is located in an obscure part of old Central and that it sells nothing but beef noodles. The somewhat indifferent attitude of its servers towards customers and the fact that it does not open on public holdidays and Sundays and that it is closed for routine cleaning during the peaks hours in the evening on weekdays only add to the aura of being a special place.

Despite my numerous visits to this place, I have yet to be convinced that it lives up to this reputation, but i know I will come back again and again in the pursuit of an illusive goal of striking gold one day and finding the perfect bowl of beef brisket noodles.
