Lee Tung Avenue has been sprouting up new cafes and restaurants here with something new opening almost every week. Boyfriend and I were here to check out the Hoegaarden Garden event and get some free beer flavored ice cream. It was hot and I needed an air conditioner break.

Tucked away in an area of Lee Tung Avenue, is La Bo La. It's a little away from all the bustle and noise found in Lee Tung Avenue but not hard to find. It's a quiet bar serving small Vietnamese style snacks. All good for a drink. And a much needed cooling down break from the heat outside.

Menu is in English only. There is no Chinese. Though staff do speak Chinese. We ordered a couple of drinks and had some snacking food.

Raspberry Mint Ice Tea ($58). Fresh from my trip to Canada, I've been drinking a lot of raspberry ice tea. I was still fresh off this addiction and ordered this. Ice cold but not enough raspberry and mint. It tasted like tea.

Calmansi Soda ($48). Boyfriend ordered this. This was a lot better and more refreshing.

Vietnamese Banh Mi ($68).  The banh mi was definitely the prettiest laid out banh mi I've ever had. But did it taste as good as it was pretty? The bread was fairly good but it wasn't the same Vietnamese bread that is used in a banh mi but more like an actual bagette. This I can forgive because Hong Kong seems to not know that a banh mi does not use a baguette. Just like pho does not use regular rice noodles. There was a few slices of Vietnamese sausage along with some pate and some pickled vegetables. The vegetables weren't not pickled enough so there wasn't that perfect balance that is found in a good banh mi. It was worthwhile try.

Traditional Crispy Spring Rolls ($68). The spring rolls, on the other hand, were pretty good. Not too oilly and a decent crispy coating. The filling was a mix of minced pork with vermicellia and carrots. I loved it.

La Bo La Ox Tongue Rice ($128). Originally, we wanted minced chicken on lemongrass but that was not available. As it was getting late, we decided to make this into dinner. It was fairly good. The tongue was cut in thick slices and super tender. The sauce, however, I think had a bit too much pepper but otherwise quite flavorful.

May not be authentic Vientamese (but it's fairly hard to find that in Hong Kong though there are a couple out there). But a fairly decent place for drinks and snacks. The area is quiet and away from the noisty Lee Tung area outside. Would probably be back if I needed a quiet place.
