I have wanted to go here for dim sum ever since it opened. Why? It's the cutest dim sum in existence. Little tiny dim sum buns, all shaped like various Disney characters. I have wanted to go here for dim sum ever since it opened. Why? It's the cutest dim sum in existence. Little tiny dim sum buns, all shaped like various Disney characters. Disneyland always brings fond childhood memories of spending my summers in Anaheim, watching the cartoons in a dark theater, waiting for the Disney Christmas parade to come on TV every year. No one would ever want to go with me for several reasons. After thinking to myself this will never happen, I finallly found a group of friends who were willing to go on this insane childish dream of mine. I guess wishing upon a star does work! And off the eight of us went to the magicial kingdom where dreams come true!!

We arrived at the restaurant and were surprised that not only was it empty on a Sunday afternoon but the decor was very typical Chinese restaurant to the point that it almost seemed old fashioned. It was disappointing that there was no Disney theme within the restaurant. They could have added Mickey faces on the chairs, the napkins, the chopsticks, the plates, but none of that was in sight. It didn't have to be tacky. This is Disneyland! We expect the big mouse to be plastered every where! But where was he in this restaurant?

The character dim sum had to be pre-ordered ahead of time, so this was done upon making a reservation a week before. It also wasn't cheap. Each bun ranged from $68 - 88 for a set of either two or three. So, we pre-ordered one of each.

The buns were rather small in size. Like VERY small in size. The dough was also rather dry and a bit tasteless while the filling was so few, it was almost nonexisitent. For this price, one would expect better quality. But then again, we spent so much time taking silly photos with them, I think it compensated for it some how. From all the characters, it seemed Mike had a bit of eye ball discoloration problems and Duffy seemed like his face was smashed by a brick. I would have expected a more perfect character shape.

The Mickey seafood glutinous pancakes also needed to be pre-ordered. Four cute Mickey heads came out but they were also dry and a bit bland. At least it was no overly oily.

The Mickey double layer taro and turnip pudding was also a pre-order item. I don't know why they combined both together? The taro was overpowering and covered the turnip flavor that made it nonexistent.

We added a few other dim sum dishes that didn't need to be pre-ordered.

Fried taro root dumplings came as pretty little swans. The head was a piece of fried noodle that was not only flavorless but hard. The taro root was soft and though again, the portion of filling was also very little.

Shrimp dumplings (aka har gao) were ok. Skin was a bit thick but at least held together well. Shriimp filling was bouncy enough.

The steamed rice roll wrapped in a crispy roll was not a favorite of mine. I didn't think the use of crispy flakes worked well as it fell apart all over and after adding soy sauce, it just became soggy. The rice wrap was thin enough.

Fried rice with abalone tasted ok. The rice was not oily and well done. Though there wasn't much chicken pieces. Portions were also small. I have no idea why they added rice crispy flakes on top. Seemed like an odd way to add texture to a dish.

XO sauce seafood fried rice noodle was also tasty. Not too spicy with a small hint of XO sauce. It was also not oily and not soggy at all which was good. There wasn't much seafood found in this dish and for $188 for such a small portioned dish, one would expect more than a few shrimp pieces.

For dessert we had another pre-order dish. We ordered two Mickey mango puddings to share. It was the exact same mango pudding that you find at the buffet area except here they added fruit shaped like Mickey's hands. Just seriously cute. Flavorwise, it wasn't very mango-y. But at least it was smooth. The fruit was fresh and crunchy.

We, of course, left not really full. The male friends of mine remarked they felt they only ate magic and magic feels empty. Personally, I think, though the food was not good, especially for the price we paid, I knew going in you were paying for the brand. And that brand is Disney. It's disappointing they didn't push it further in terms of decor. The food could have been better. Cuteness doesn't mean it should taste mediocre. And I think that is what is wrong with Disneyland Hong Kong every time I go here. It has a good base but always misses the mark. But sadly, I still return.

Yes, we had fun. We took many photos with our food. And I'm sure I'll remember this forever. But would I return? Sadly, no. If the quality of the food was as good as what it looked like, yes. But unfortunately, it didn't.
