My wife got me a Lady M Earl grey mille feuille cake online for my birthday. It's not bad, but it's not really my cup of tea. The crepe are made paper thin and there are at least 20 crepes with a cream filling in between. There is a layer of earl grey ganache on top, garnished with a ring of finely ground earl grey tea leaves and edible blue cornflowers. On the up side, the earl grey flavour is very robust. The crepe are made paper thin and there are at least 20 crepes with a cream filling in between. There is a layer of earl grey ganache on top, garnished with a ring of finely ground earl grey tea leaves and edible blue cornflowers. On the up side, the earl grey flavour is very robust. The crepe is very soft (you can cut them with a fork quite effortlessly) and every part is beautifully executed (every layer of cream is of the same thickness). Also, the waiting time is minimal if you've reserved your cake online.
On the down side, it tastes more like a big blob of cream to me -- you don't get to chew the crepes much as they are too thin, lacking mouthfeel whatsoever... I have tasted better Mille feuille cakes in Japan with just 12 layers of crepes and alternate layers of cream and custard filling. And if you're going to line up for 45 minutes for a piece of cake, I'd say it's not worth it...
題外話/補充資料:
It's worth a try if there's no line up. For me, it's more about good marketing and hype than taste.
