My friend had been a few times and recommended this place to the group of us. However, this was her first visit back under a ‘new management’ and things have gone dramatically downhill. Firstly, even though the windows/patios were fully closed and air cons on 'full', it was EXTREMELY hot and stuffy inside. I would advise going during the cooler months. My friend asked if the wedges in her dish could be replaced with mash instead but the waiter refused the change. She asked if he could go and enquire for her but he stood there and insisted that he ‘just knew’ that changes are not allowed except changing the wedges to fries. This was not a big issue, except she had made his request before and it had been achieved, except on this occasion.
Two of us ordered a pint of cranberry juice. The juice was NOT a full pint and one of them had a strong taste of coffee. This was verified by four of us who sipped both glasses of cranberry juice for comparison. After asking for a replacement, the second glass returned, still with the same taste. The first glass might have been contaminated by the dirty glass which had previously been used for iced coffee and simply poured into a new glass and re-served again. Instead, we were given a lecture that both the juice had come out of the same container so there shouldn’t be a problem with only one and not the other.
Next, we ordered three hot water with lemon. A small mug arrived with hot water and ONE THIN SLICE of lemon in each. My friend asked for another mug of hot water to refill up her mug and was told that they ‘do not do re-fills’, even though they charged us $32 for each mug of hot water and ONE slice of lemon.
This poor service of trying to rinse the customer will not encourage any of us to go back again. They have a totally wrong approach to customer service. It’s not even about the money or charges imposed but the tacky and greedy attitude they display. Yes, we paid the 10% service charge imposed but it was worth that amount to see what their true 'service' is really about.
Overall, the food was just so-so and the desserts appalling. The Mars bar cheesecake did not taste of Mars bar except the one mouthful that had a tiny amount of Mars bar mixed into that part. The chocolate brownie was extremely DRY and did not even taste of chocolate - not a hint.
We would rather visit Bulldogs Bar & Grill at East TST or Delaney’s across the road at Peking Road.
