12月本是派對的月份，今年卻不再一樣... 難得中環 Hunter & The Chase 仍然發出派對邀請，文華東方下午茶後，就去了舉杯輕聚，輕輕感受一下聖誕原有的歡樂熾熱氣氛！要仔細劃分的話，Hunter & The Chase 應該算是兩間不同的餐廳，分別位於 The L. Hunter & The Chase is a casual space with a two-floor dining room where you’ll inevitably be able to try something new. We do go around quite a few lunch spots on the island during the weekends, and everywhere we go we see nearly the same old, with primarily European-inspired antipasti buffets plus a main course and a free flow champagne deal. Hunter & The Chase offered something a little different. American-themed with cosmopolitan elements thrown in, brunch includes a set of fixed starters and an interesting choice of six mains, including such items as coq au vin fried chicken and waffles, hoisin glazed pork ribs, double beef burgers and miso butter poached salmon with black rice and salmon roe. Caesar salad and fries come refilled every so often, and fruits, yogurt, and simple cakes are served as dessert. We didn’t see as many people over brunch compared with the night before and serving times were slightly slow for our standard, but waiting staff were hospitable. Overall dinner the night before at Hunter was better than their brunch, but we’ll definitely come back to give their double or quadruple burgers and 1000-calorie milkshakes a try.Food RundownStarters - four-cheese mac ’n cheese balls, fried head cheese sticks & marinara dip, balsamic glazed wagyu beef skewers, Italian cold cuts and beetroot cured salmonMac ’n cheese balls are very good and the beetroot cured salmon rather unusual. This was one satisfying dish, but Westwood Carvery still does better rib roasts. Grilled USDA prime hanger steak The hanger steak wasn’t half as good as the striploin we had the night before, not because it was a different cut, but for some reason it didn't have the same char. Aside from the name Hunter & The Chase that no doubt associates with the tradition of wildlife hunting, which initially rang a few alarms of mild protest and sympathy as we were animal lovers, we were delighted to find this new dining spot that we’ll surely be returning frequently (and to clarify, there really is nothing on the menu that isn’t considered a typical meat or seafood to consume).The food offering is a good balance of all-time favorites and the trendy, with interesting combinations of condiments. Take, for example, miso butter poached lobster with salmon roe and shiso, or stuffed zucchini flowers with ricotta, mint and yellow tomato confit. Seafood lovers would be satisfied as well: geoduck sashimi, Hokkaido scallop, crab, Spanish octopus and sea urchin were all spotted. Serious grilled steaks are also on offer: bone-in, rib-eye, striploin, hanger, tomahawk….you name it. Service was accommodating and while the restaurant filled up quickly as the evening rolled on, seating was spacious so we were able to converse comfortably against a humming backdrop of excited Friday night diners. I do order octopus whenever I can see it on a menu, but this is still one of the best I’ve had lately. The executive lunch includes a starter and a drink plus your main course option.
