之前久唔久都去beson食,今次去佐,發現食物質素下降好多,好失望。點佐一個餐湯,好酸。一個沙津,感覺好奇怪,好似唔太新鮮,一個意粉送到桌上,味道怪怪, 軟嗒嗒,芝士味很淡,而且整體味道過鹹。好難食。整體而言,食物其實一般, 服務都無乜特別,以後唔會再幫襯。

香港食肆林立,要决定去那𥚃吃饭有時都幾頭疼。今天充選咗一家小店吃西餐。點上了:1. 煙雞肉火龍果沙律配蘋果醋汁:好少沙律有火龍果,配上後囗感為之一振。因為佢嘅汁和甜味,軟軟肉質,㚒住沙律菜的爽脆,一口吃下變得有層次感。2. 香煎鱼柳配蕃茄濃汁:用的是盲鰽,老闆娘說是原條自己起肉,好新鮮。魚皮煎香,魚肉嫩滑,帶點咸香,配上只是微酸蕃咖汁和薯蓉,带出青爽口感。3. 朱古力曲奇芝士蛋糕:濃濃朱古力和芝士味撞出奇效,好有新鲜感!最后配上一杯香濃咖啡,完美结局。

2. 香煎鱼柳配蕃茄濃汁:用的是盲鰽,老闆娘說是原條自己起肉,好新鮮。魚皮煎香,魚肉嫩滑,帶點咸香,配上只是微酸蕃咖汁和薯蓉,带出青爽口感。

I called ahead the same day to make a booking and specifically asked if they have hairy crab roe. They said yes without hesitation. When we got there and sat down they told us actually they've run out of it. We were astonished since we went all the way there only to be told they don't even have it. If it's something they're going to run out of quickly they could have told us when we booked and asked us if we wanted to reserve it or something. Duping customers to show up for something you can't d

預祝朋友生日,專登上Openrice 搜尋一下第二區的食店。既然大家都想食蠔,又search到呢間,於是專誠過海來試下。怕晚飯時間要等位,於是預早訂了枱。7點15分來到,連我們四人,餐廳都算座無虛席了。先睇Oyster menu, order了White Pearl 及Regal各4隻。平均$60一隻蠔,正常size同埋新鮮程度,以該地段的餐廳可能算是合理價錢吧。 Appetizer揀左個黑毛豬火腿腸拼盤, 份量足夠我們四個女仔,始終比較鹹, 每人淺嚐幾片就夠啦。Main course 時先係戲玉,兩碟都好精緻:分別叫左波士頓龍蝦蕃茄天使麵及牛肝菌意大利飯。食晒嘢之後, 侍應馬上遞甜品menu 埋黎。得7, 8 款而且大家都覺得該價錢一d都唔值, 於是繼續坐晌到傾計。此時就遞上一碟好似Chip Ahoy的曲奇餅仔, 應該在示意我們要埋單了吧。

題外話/補充資料: 一坐低, 並沒有主動提供水, 反而係即刻問你飲d咩, distilled water 定sparkling water... 覺得佢迫左我地叫要俾錢嘅水/飲品先, 呢種服務態度真奇怪。

XO好少入跑馬地,因為覺得區內乜野都貴過人,而且交通都幾擠塞下,今次應邀黎真係好比面架。一入左跑馬地,無論係搭巴士,小巴,又或者電車,唔洗行五分鐘就會到Benson。成和道地舖,落地玻璃,有地址一D都唔難搵。餐廳地方唔大,不過勝在樓面高,間隔整齊,光線充足,哥哥仔們態度溫文友善。 麵包籃:芝麻包夠熱夠腍,早到o既小肥好快就靜靜雞食左兩個。 Set Lunch($129)餐湯之南瓜忌廉湯:唔知係咪潮流興食南瓜呢,定係萬聖節用剩左好多南瓜蓉,連忌廉湯都用南瓜黎造?!聽落個配搭幾健康,飲落味道甜甜地,又唔會溜,小肥鍾意! !大閘蟹熱辣辣,香噴噴,蟹肉蟹膏濕潤鮮甜,配上幼嫩彈牙o既天使麵,搞到XO仔又要學爸爸唱歌添:「哈哈,我要飛上天上,哈哈!」
認真唔講得笑,食到咁上吓,小肥都要加返少少醋去調味,因為食到一大半終於開始覺得有D溜。

未幫襯過Benson o既朋友,真係一定要黎試下佢個Hairy Crab Pasta,包大家讚不絕口!試過不同組合o既姨媽話大閘蟹配Angel Hair最為出色,更建議細食o既女士們可以考慮每兩位叫一份,由$420一份變成$210一個人,經濟D,份量又剛剛好;如果唔怕薑茶陣辣味,不妨飯後飲返杯消滯,咁就perfect啦

好耐無去跑馬地食嘢, 呢日入咗嚟 lunch.

麵包又熱又脆, 牛油就好唔掂.

Onion soup 味唔算濃但竟太鹹; 旁邊仲有塊得啖笑的芝士多士.

Squid ink spaghetti with octopus in tomato sauce: 只有「好酸」二字的回憶, 真係酸到呢...

Sirloin 叫 medium rare, 都做到, 算係咁.

埋單每人約 $142, 唔貴, 一試無妨.

Autumn... hairy crab season! My first taste of the crustacean this year since I discount the negligible morsel in my xiao long bao. First taste and no messy peeling necessary. Autumn... hairy crab season! My first taste of the crustacean this year since I discount the negligible morsel in my xiao long bao. First taste and no messy peeling necessary. Benson does a Shanghai Hairy Crab Set Menu this season where it's not quite the traditional way of eating Hairy Crab but uses the crustacean as a basis for a Modern European meal with Italian influences to create a pretty decent dinner.

At HK$680 per person, it's pretty good value since there are quite a few courses, and at least 3 of which come with the crustacean. Here's my take:

1. The oysters were fresh.. but think they weren't the best. Especially since my recent experience at Casa Fina is still in my mind.

2. The prawn bisque served in a coffee cup, was a very tasty but not heavy concoction just lightly laced with cream. And there was more than just a couple of pieces of crab in a fairly tight space and the first tastes of the crab meat were that they were firm, sweet and certainly very much this season.

3. The sherbet was forgettable. Way too creamy to be sherbet for me, and so a tad much.

4. I liked the crab ravioli. The skin was al dente with the right amount of bite and chewiness, and the crab meat this time was broken down further with bits of crab roe. Served on a light tomato pureed sauce, there was also a side dish of Zhejiang vinegar with chopped ginger to add a little acidity and heat.

5. My favorite was my choice of the Shanghai Crab Risotto (see pic above). There was a generous serving of a well sauteed mix of crab meat and roe over a bed of al dente risotto. So tasty I had to make it last. So generous I had no problems doing so. I would have preferred a Japanese sweetish vinegar with this since the Zhejiang vinegar had way too much heat from the aged ginger that they used and interfered with the freshness of the crab after a while.

6. Ginger souffle and tea were ok, nothing to shout about. I am not the hugest fan of ginger but since Chinese believe that the hairy crabs have an overly cooling element, one must consume ginger to balance out the "yin" from the crabs. So I dutifully do so.

My only complaint to the meal is that since it's supposed to be the season to consumer male crabs, we did not get any male specimen, which we eat for the gelatinous "sperm". Instead, we only got the orange roe from the females, which aren't quite seasonal until in about 2 to 3 weeks or so, as I'm told.

Good thing Benson has a supply outlet just across the restaurant that we might just order from. They steam it for you and deliver for free if you're in the Happy Valley area, complete with the vinegar, and ginger tea. Tempting for a Sunday dinner this weekend..

野食真係唔錯,裝修就一般啦,冇想像中咁大,,,細細間座20個人左右,天花板有塊好似銅咁既物體,上面有d龍蝦,蟹,魚咁,幾靚,最初睇驚佢會跌落黎壓死人,個waiter話原來係用波離纖維做好輕唔怕,成晚得3檯客人,好似唔係好受歡迎咁,咁細間都唔爆場,可能閒日啦

service就非常之好啦,得2個waiter,一個唔知係咪經理叫Gary,另一個睇落新人咁既樣,,,手振振,,,成晚就係Gary照乎我地,全程每一樣野都介紹同埋解說,可能得閒啦,得幾檯客,見佢檯檯都有傾有講,應該做左好耐同d客好熟,介紹d野就真係好食既,下次再去試埋個疏乎厘!

埋單好似千零蚊,感覺好滿意,算係一間可以再去既餐廳

Benson was and still is, in the wholesale business, bringing in quality produce and wines. I don't know this for a fact but believe that the restaurant started a few years so they can showcase their quality inventory as well as perhaps manage the whole chain a lot better. The restaurant is not what you would expect a place serving very decent food to look like - on the contrary, it is exactly like walking into your friend's dining room, casual and cozy. Sometimes they even draw the curtains for privacy.

Service was a little short, and we were surprised that we could not swap certain dishes, and there was not even a suggestion that one could do so, by perhaps topping up some moola. A little too rigid in my opinion for a small set up like this. Oh well.

The menu does not boast complex dishes but rather simple cooking methods to allow the produce to speak for itself. Although famous for its hairy crab tasting menu, I had the regular tasting menu since the former are no longer in season. The 6-course tasting menu boasted the following:

Oyster duo - a Tasmanian and an Irish. Both were very fresh but the Tasmanian was very creamy and sweet, which I preferred of the 2, even though I generally like a slightly more briny one.

The cream of mushroom soup was light but just a tad short on the mushroomy-ness. Upside: it was healthier than usual.

Cleanse palate with a sweeter than usual lime sorbet and then..

The piece de resistance of the tasting menu was really the piece of ribeye. Evenly marbled and very tender yet meaty, it was well executed. Sitting in a red wine reduction which brought out the flavours, add some mustard for punch and you're in heaven. My only complaint: presentation was on a plate which was a tad small and really like going to your friend's and all it's about is the food. Boiled broccoli and carrots are a little '90s for me, but ok, we all could use a little fibre.

I liked the lobster ravioli also - although it was more akin to a Shanghainese wanton, so you have to like a slightly chewy and thicker than usual skin. I like it and you should too - just have to take your mind away from the traditional ravioli skins in a true Italian joint. The tomato concasse was not too tart and slightly sweet so as to provide a complementary sauce which did not overwhelm.

The crab cakes from the tasting menu were excellent. Usually made from canned crab meat, this was the real McCoy. Use of fresh crab meat, and seasoned lightly, the light flaky crab held together in a well deep fried breaded crust, and painted with old-fashioned tartar sauce, was very good. At least our initially unhelpful waiter managed to put this in as an appetiser order, since it's not included in the 6-course.

The angel hair with lobster is also highly recommended from the main menu. Lobster was still crunchy and fresh - sweet. Obviously fresh! And coupled with al dente angel hair, coated with a light tomato cream sauce, sheer delight!

Finally, tasting menu dessert of chocolate milk pudding was ok, nothing fantastic. Just like eating chilled chocolate milk - pleasant enough. The warm chocolate pudding from the main menu was however, decent. Not the best, but a satisfying end to a good meal.

Next time you want to pop to a friend's for dinner, but have no invite? Pay your way at Benson's for a similar experience. Only hope that the waiters are a little more charming next time round.

Went there last week and had one of the nicest spring chicken ever! Expensive but worthwhile for intimate gatherings or dinners. Service can be improved though.

如果老闆識做,係咪應該"補償"一下...set lunch冇收收平d都算, 至少轉個價錢相若既appertizer啦!! 同埋門口個黑版menu應該由"鵝肝鴨胸沙律"改做caesar salad, 唔好等人入左去先話俾人知賣哂! 好似呃人入去咁!

講埋main course. 煎魚有3小塊, 2小舊西蘭花,2小舊potato. 一個男仔一定食唔飽!!! d魚唔滑,不過可能"魚立"魚係咁. 個芒果忌廉汁ok,不過太少汁. 唔知點解阿哥既女朋友個碟d汁多我好多. 阿哥件牛扒7成熟都幾好味,ok淋,汁又係偏少,伴菜同我個碟一樣. dessert有焗旦白/apple crumble. 兩樣試哂. 焗旦白係全餐最滿意.(第二滿意係d包) 似creme brulee 既旦白版,好香奶同旦白味. 個apple crumble 都ok既.. coffee勁苦..落勁多奶都好苦..

總括黎講, 唔會再去! 好唔值! 係跑馬地同樣價錢可以食得更好. 仲有,企係我地隔離既兩個男waiter 係我地食野既時候chat..都ok大聲.. 未見過高級餐廳d侍應會咁. 食完lunch,我成個下午都好口渴...我諗d食物都好多味精.
