Walked by the Hospital coffee shop and found a new item from the pastry chef. Macarons! What?!!?There were five flavors. Salty caramel, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and raspberry. All for $10 each. I got ten.Texture was nice and dry. Macaron was crispy though not much almond flavor. Ganache filling was smooth but tasted like butter. Raspberry, strawberry and vanilla flavors were nice. Strawberry even had bits of fruit inside. Chocolate was very rich. Salty caramel wasn't very good as there wasn't enough salt to bring out the caramel flavor.Packaging could be improved as they just put it in a plastic container that broke some of the macarons when I got them home.Not great macarons but for $10, not bad.…查看更多
One would never have expected to find a decent cake shop in a hospital of all places. But yes, it's right here. Located inside the famous hospital to the rich and elite, Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital is a coffee shop where it serves regular cafe food like coffee, sandwiches and most recently cakes. The selection of cakes change daily and are made by the hospital's own pastry chef who used to work at a hotel.Lemon tart on the left and blueberry cheesecake on the right. The lemon tart was perfectly lemony though the crust was a bit too hard. The blueberry cheesecake was good while the berries were fresh.Raspberry cheesecake was scrumptious. The raspberries were sweet and the cheesecake was smooth while the crust melted away. All cakes were $38. And portion size was huge!The server at the counter said one can pre-order larger size cakes from the catalogue all around $400.
