A new restaurant opened in Wanchai called 華香雞. I noticed it while taking the tram out from my home. It seemed like a roast meat shop but upon closer inspection they only served various types of chicken. They also had magazine articles posted on the windows explaining that the owner once owned a chicken farm and 12 restaurants all focusted on chicken. But the avian flu came one year, forcing him to close his farm along with almost all his restaurants. I guess this is the latest branch to open. The place isn't very big with not that many seats. But it was busy with take away and all the tables were full. I assume los of people have heard of this place.Half the restaurant space is the kitchen where you also see the various chicken they have hanging by the window.Menu is in Chinese only. There is no English and no 10% service charge. You pay on the way out.They have four types of chicken: spicy, drunken, oolong tea smoked and their signature: Wah Heung. You can order a whole chicken for $198 or half a  chicken for $108 along with sets that include a drink or soup and rice or vermicelli.We decided to share half a chicken ($108) and we could choose two flavours: Wah Heung and Oolong Tea Smoked.  It was served with a generous scoop of minced onions that was nicely seasoned.The oolong tea smoked chicken was subtle in flavour but the meat was moist and juicy. The skin wasn't overly fat as well.The Wah Heung chicken was  different texture all together. It appears they use a different breed of chicken for each way they cook it.  Though the meat was more firm here, the  flavour was more stronger and well seasoned.We also decided to order a steamed eel with Chinese gooseberries ($73) and choose the set version so we could share a soup and rice.The soup was a daily soup. Portion was large enough to share between two people. It was a chicken soup with dates, carrot, barley and chicken feet. It was very good. An intense chicken broth that didn't have any MSG.The set also came with a tumeric rice that was fluffy and fragrant.For our set, we chose the steamed eel with Chinese gooseberries as we saw almost everyone was sharing this. I can see why. For a set, the portion was more than generous. The sauce was rich with a subtle hint of sourness form the gooseberries. Bits of celery was also found.The eel were in nice thick slices and soaked with all the delicious sauce. Not over cooked as well. This was a good deal.Prices reasonable and portions are generous. 某天經過灣仔駱克道,見到「華香雞」大招牌,令我定左幾秒格,回想起那些年…..今天再重逢,二話不說衝入去吃晚飯。店舖面積不大,看似翻用上手的裝修,廚房就在入口處的左邊,座位大慨十多個左右,地方乾乾淨淨,食個快飯地方。鴛鴦雞$108 (半隻)半隻雞也可以雙拼,抵讚!我哋揀左兩款招牌鷄 「華香雞、烏龍茶香雞」先試烏龍茶香雞,雞肉上色均勻,油光亮亮的,未入口已聞到陣陣的煙氛香,就連鷄皮也一同放入口,鷄皮爽口不膩;鷄肉彈牙肉嫩,茶香吾系好出,味道如煙氛豉油雞,好耐冇食過咁有質素的鷄肉,真心出色。「華香雞」正是白切鷄,亮點是鷄皮下的啫喱,鷄肉浸成剛熟,不多不少,滑嫩飽滿、油潤,加上大量薑蓉,令鷄肉生色不少順帶一提,薑蓉超香,用嚟撈飯一流。黃薑飯 $18吾會好似鷄油飯咁入口油淋淋,飯粒分明;黃薑香而不辣,必食!雞湯米 $25大大碗好抵食是日老火湯 $15青紅蘿蔔霸皇花排骨湯兩碗份量,最緊要夠熱、湯味足,冇味精,真係要飲多碗。豆豉鯪魚煮白菜 $65店員將成個窩仔放上枱時仲係熱騰騰,香噴噴,好吸引,豆豉鯪魚成碗咁多,魚油和豆豉滲入每條白菜仔中,增添了更多咸香,而且份量超多,兩三個人share 更好。 繼續閱讀

「華香雞」係香港著名嘅老字號,店舖始創於 1988 年,主打自家炮製嘅招牌華香雞,雞隻源於自設農場,以營養飼料自然放養,所以質量有一定嘅保證。最近得知品牌喺駱克道開左新分店,趁今日放假,專登過嚟吃頓午餐。門面好搶眼,紅底金字招牌,加上櫥窗掛滿了肥美嘅雞隻,煞是吸引,令人食指大動。餐牌清晰簡單,除左主打嘅幾款鎮店名雞之外,仲有牛腩、牛筋、海鱸魚、白鱔同蔬菜煲等可供選擇。華香雞同茶香雞都係餐廳嘅招牌作,一場嚟到,當然唔可以錯過。點了招牌華香雞拼烏龍茶香雞配雞湯米,另外再加左仁稔醬蒸煮鱸魚配黃薑飯 同 豆豉魚煮菜心。飯餐奉送無味精老火湯,今日嘅湯喺青紅蘿蔔雞腳豬骨湯,睇下幾大碗,落足料,味道家常。招牌華香雞果然名不虛傳,雞皮非常薄,雞肉也很嫩滑,完全沒有絲毫嚡身嘅感覺,而且食落仲有啖啖鮮雞味。茶香雞水準亦一流,雞肉散發住陣陣煙燻香氣同烏龍嘅茶香,用嚟配米粉吃,非常滋味。海鱸魚接著送上,餐牌標明係使用智能煲,再加上 6 種醬汁蒸煮。據講呢個智能煲係店主自家研發,唔單止保溫咁簡單,仲可以保持餸菜嘅原汁原味。先嚐一口魚肉,肉質新鮮肥美,魚味非常濃郁,入口清甜彈滑,仁稔醬酸酸甜甜,配埋啲酸子薑一齊食,開胃惹味。黃薑飯亦做得十分對辦,不但色澤金黃,而且飯粒亦夠晒挺身,入口香味撲鼻。最後食埋個豆豉鯪魚煮菜心,菜心同樣以智能煲盛上,色澤翠綠,入口熱辣辣,鮮嫩爽脆。豆豉鯪魚鹹鹹香香,用嚟配菜心吃,惹味非常。 繼續閱讀

華香雞灣仔駱克道368-374號百齡大廈地下G2號舖華香雞家中老人家味蕾都照顧到, 一食不得了, 好食到家又定價合理。食物主打標榜招牌華香雞, 另外其他味包括川味麻辣、紹興酒、鹽香沙薑同烏龍茶, 招牌華香雞 + 茶香雞雙併, 一次過食曬兩個日味。$88一人餐,有湯,飯,雞腎,菜。兩隻雞好嫩滑,個華香雞雞皮香滑, 茶香雞就非常濃郁送飯一流!而店家有蔥油醬用來蘸點雞食, 本身雞好入味做得極之出色到家, 蘸醬是綿上添花啦。老火湯足料$108仁棯醬白鱔,個醬酸酸鹹鹹幾過癮,白鱔厚肉,連皮好彈牙。而飯有白飯同黃薑飯,散點價錢是 白飯 $15黃薑飯 $18除了雞, 牛腩飯同白鱔亦都是非常有名氣同多人食, 一於下次再試埋佢。 繼續閱讀
