最近看到一篇舊文,一班人挑戰健力士馬拉松紀錄,以宣揚香港精神,運動衫上的口號正是:Never give up!套用到去這間玉葉甜品身上都頗為適用。炎炎夏日單靠一把風扇,吹涼整個檔口。靠兩公婆撐起的一個檔口,起早貪黑,用「捱」字絕不為過。旁邊的民園麵家緊閉著的鐵閘,猶如殘酷的世態展露人前,令人不禁倒抽一口涼氣。小檔裡面一個個煲,要兼顧晒都咪話易。坐滿了人。旁邊的壁畫令人誤以為玉葉甜品走了潮流藝術路線。實情是隔離韓國餐廳之作而已。很多食評批評服務不佳,但是日所見,老板娘手腳勤快,落單迅速,我不斷影相亦未遭到為難。牛腩麵($28)$28一碗牛腩麵,本來沒甚麼期待。沒想到上檯一刻,原來頗為足料,牛肉牛筋量多,碗麵的份量亦比沾仔記大。量方面非常滿足。質方面,麵梘水味明顯,韌度適中,不硬不軟,一咬即可咬斷。牛肉尚算新鮮入味,沒有韌和老的肉屑。牛筋膠原十足,咬落軟硬適中,質素相當不錯。湯底腩汁濃郁,附有少少麵的梘水味,這程度可以接受。同時見對面人地叫的牛腩撈麵狀甚對板,下次可以一試!炸魚皮($16)與同事叫了個魚皮share食,魚皮與平時街市買到的無異。鬆脆可口,絲毫沒有軟化,可取的是,這裡的炸魚皮相當完整,沒有碎塊碎屑。在牛腩麵湯輕輕一浸,聽過悅耳的「滋滋聲」,送入口「咔嚓咔嚓」,爽!飲品方面,檸檬茶($5)只是紙包裝的,order時老板娘有講明,童叟無欺,很好!(同事已起勢咁食…)食完牛腩麵和炸魚皮其實已有點飽,不過,來到玉葉甜品,不叫甜品又好像對唔住自己。於是我叫了…糖不甩($13)份量不算大,但有6粒之多,同事不愛吃黐牙之物,於是我自己啪了六粒之多。糯米粉做的表皮,蒸過之後變得相當滑溜,表面水分甚多,灑上椰絲,咬過煙韌,裡面純是丸子,沒有餡的。海帶綠豆沙 - 熱($13)同事叫的海帶綠豆沙,簡稱「臭草」(因為另外有「香草」綠豆沙)。溫度是暖暖的,裡面頗為足料,有大大塊海帶,煲到溶的綠豆,讓我嚐了嚐,味道不算很甜,但入口清爽,感覺很下火舒服。總括而言,食完這餐,我和同事都大感飽足,每人落樓也是五十蚊左右。吃到的是香港懷舊老味道,吃到堅毅不拔的鬥志,環境再差香港人也Never give up的精神和拼勁!抵讚又抵撐! 繼續閱讀

我一直對綠色鐵皮屋大牌檔有種莫名的好感,香港現存二十幾個中,應該只有一成冇吃過吧。而講到甜品的話,就不得不提「玉葉」了。第一次幫襯位於大斜路,枱櫈也有點斜斜的玉葉時,隔離賣粉麵的民園還健在。後來,民園因牌照問題結業並搬到對面地鋪,現時地鋪又結業,但因為玉葉老闆娘和民園的老板其實是夫婦,所以玉葉現時已變成「玉葉粉麵甜品」,兼賣粉麵了。日前再光顧玉葉,都有兩、三年未來過了,店邊的牆多了些壁畫(估計屬隔壁的店吧),同古舊的大牌檔形成強烈的對比。這晚只想食碗糖水,還是吃我每次來都吃的香草綠豆沙。這裏的綠豆沙是傳統的做法,加入的香草其實便是臭草,用了此物會後綠豆沙有股獨特的味道,再加上海帶,年輕人未必會欣賞,但卻是我細路仔時普遍的做法,屬老一輩的味道。平心而論,這裏的糖水並非好味到極點,但卻有種懷舊的風味,而這種感覺並非很多甜品店做得出來。值得一提的是此店員工態度不太好已出晒名,但其實若你不是在這裏hea,或者等人唔叫東西的話,基本上問題不都大。 繼續閱讀

Since I was in the area, I decided to check out Leaf Dessert, a compact restaurant (if you can even call it that) plunked on the end of Elgin Lane. Although I was still stuffed from eating at Mak's Noodles AND Tsim Chai Kee (that probably wasn't the best idea), I just couldn't end my meal without a dessert to satisfy my raging sweet tooth. So Leaf Dessert it was, which, like I said before, is tiny! I almost missed it while attempting to slowly manoeuvre my way down the small and scarily steep side street. My confusion mostly stemmed from the fact that the 'restaurant' is merely a stall with a couple of tables and chairs under a tarpaulin awning. More than half the tables were occupied and there were a couple of open seats, perfect for my friend and I.  Now, the service wasn't great as expected but the desserts came very quickly. We ordered both the hot seaweed green bean soup and rice dumplings topped with toasted sesame, coconut and sugar. All desserts were $13 hot and $14 cold, super cheap! 'Why the $1 difference?' you may ask, well, I have no idea either. Anyway, I liked the dumplings, they were really soft, fluffy and chewy. I feel there was a bit too much topping though, consisting mostly of sugar. I tried the soup as well and it didn't go down so well. I enjoyed the texture of the barley and bean medley but was a bit thrown off by the seaweed. Maybe it's just me, since I'm not really used to seaweed in desserts. The soup was good but again, a tad too sweet for me. My friend was delighted though judging from the way she downed the whole bowl.  Leaf Dessert serves decent enough Cantonese desserts and I dig the whole atmosphere but there are better places. Not to mention the hazardous positioning of the seats! No, seriously, I almost backflipped after my chair tilted backwards and went through an entire work out just to avoid my chair falling over (remember the whole situated on a hill thing?). I did hear the noodles are quite good too so maybe I'll try them next. In the meantime, onto the next restaurant! 繼續閱讀

糖不甩 $18這是斜路旁邊的一家茶檔,經典老香港式的街邊檔。真的用糖烹煮過的糖不甩,十分軟糯煙韌,椰絲芝麻花生碎也十分甜美香口,吃下去口感更豐富。老板也霸氣十足😂例如:我拍得太久,老板馬上說:「你再拍就包場拍,大佬,我要翻枱!」(但明明沒有人等位🙈我要申辯)然後,有人在旁看了餐牌一會兒,還沒決定好要否幫襯,老板又馬上說:「食就食啦,睇咁耐都唔食,你睇幾耐都唔食。」由於他沒有幫襯也被罵,我覺得老板對我已經好好😂旁人或者覺得很兇,但在太多犬儒太多媚諂的香港,這種不為二分四折腰的氣度,好像也令人很受落。 繼續閱讀

未坐低前,朋友都話呢間啲人態度麻麻,不如唔好食啦,但我真係未試過呀,都係黎食野唧,食完就走又唔係要你做人世。我特別喜歡佢鐵皮屋的舖面,充滿古舊的感覺。我點左一碗熱芝麻糊,芝麻係生磨的,味道香濃但偏甜,質地偏稀,我本身鍾意「杰 」啲芝麻糊,所以不太啱我口味。紅豆沙上枱就聞到好香的陳皮味,紅豆算係粒,聽講用左10 個小時煲成,難怪深受街坊同遊客的喜愛。食完熱辣辣的甜品,天氣凍冰冰都唔怕了。 繼續閱讀
