Last week I had some great time in Japan with my friends who moved to UK, and today they are returning home. Thinking of them, I decide to go for British cuisine on the night and immediately recall this restaurant / bar located in Central. Arriving early evening, we come to this small, cozy diner on the first floor of the historic Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong.The décor has not changed from my last visit a few years back, with plenty of wood panels and furniture, leather banquettes, artworks from the English painter George Chinnery, and the large assortment of whisky display behind the bar counter. I am also thrilled to see my friend John who works here. He greets us warmly and shows us to our table at the corner.Starting with some beverages, John has made my wife a Fruit Punch, which is the best she has ever tried, with fresh and high-quality fruit juice, and the right amount of grenadine syrup. For me I have a couple of their classic cocktails, including Chinnery Bramble and Manhattan, and both are truly wonderful, bringing back fond memories bar-hopping when I started to learn about cocktails.For starters, we have Chicken Wings ($168). Grilled beautifully, the wings are thoughtfully cut into smaller pieces to allow guests to eat them easily. With the meat remaining tender, we also like the homemade BBQ sauce which has a slight spiciness, appetizing but will not make you craze for water. A very nice snack to go with beer as well.The other starter is Tartare ($348). John introduces the ingredients of the dish, with prime beef tenderloin, minced nicely and mixed with capers, gherkins and parsley. He then helps us to mix it with egg yolk, while we skip the brandy as my wife do not take alcohol, serve with white toast. Amazingly flavourful, the sweetness and acidity of the pickles are well balanced, with the tenderness of the tartare appealing. A must-order in my opinion.My wife has picked Fish & Chips ($378) for her main course. The Atlantic cod fillet is deep-fried in Boddingtons beer batter, paired with tartar sauce and potato chips. The quality of the fish fillet is very good, using premium fish which has got a good texture and not ‘oily’. The batter is airy and fluffy, with the tartar sauce providing an impeccable match.I have Tikka Chicken ($368), with the chicken cooked with tomato, butter, yoghurt, aromatic spices, very tender. The curry is not spicy at all, and John shares that the chef can adjust the spiciness per customers’ request. As a result, for those looking for more heat it is good to mention that during ordering. The curry comes with basmati rice which is good portion for two people. Another anchor and signature dish.As we are very full, and the desserts are quite indulgent, we originally decide to skip. Knowing that, John has thoughtfully arranged a Fruit Platter for us. The service here is truly top-notch and I can also see other customers happily engaged with the team. With the hotel’s membership Central+ and using the $200 voucher, the bill on the night is $1,190. Great value for money. More reasons for us to return frequently. 繼續閱讀

【 The Chinnery 內的『英倫即景』 】英倫風貌,內斂而莊重的 The Chinnery 平日午餐都是中環上班人士,少不了 bankers、lawyers 呢。偶爾聽見隔籬桌子輕聲對話,禮貌而片面,subtle and taciturn。小妹常來:兩人傾密計午餐,都選桌子,兩張桌子一個 unit,之間有玻璃屏風相隔;一個人來,則坐吧桌。不過要小心,吧檯因為向下傾斜,要放上一張小平台才有平面盛載食物,但切記不要把手臂壓在小平台上,那很容易翻桌弄得食物倒在衣服上就不好啦。這家以畫家 George Chinnery 命名的 bar & restaurant,去年稍作 facelift, wood-panelled walls,mahogany 木色裝潢,小裝修後英倫氣質如故。據小妹所知 Mandarin Oriental 有不少 Chinnery 畫作藏品(餐廳掛了幾幅),因此有這一家 bar & restaurant 取名 The Chinnery  吧 🤔。【 The Chinnery 的午餐 】看看食物如何。Chinnery 提供的為 British food with strong Indian influence 啦。小妹來這裡,不外吃幾樣,Fish & Chips、Tikka Chicken 及 Bengali Mixed Fish Curry。前面兩款今天都有吃。/ Champagne — Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Brut NV。Ruinart 大路香檳不會失望嘅。 ****/ Bread 有兩種,有 a hit of hotness 的印度 papadum,另加 flatbread crackers,味道低沉一點,兩款都很香脆,這個 variety 配搭似乎不錯喔。****/ Fish & Chips — Atlantic cod fillet fried in Boddingtons beer batter |tartar sauce| potato chips 。 ****Batter 輕盈薄脆,「浮」在魚身上,鱈魚香滑,很出色的炸魚。薯條黃金之色(沒有 brownish),炸得通透,tartar sauce 的 savouriness 和 acidity 平衡得很好。整體是很出色的炸魚薯條。當然不要忘記文華的茄汁啦 ☝🏽😌。Boddingtons 啤酒聲稱很幼滑,小妹不是啤酒粉絲,大杯飲不下,曾淺嚐幾回,也覺得是幾滑呢。/ Tikka Chicken — Cooked with tomato |butter |yoghurt |aromatic spices|basmati rice。******溫文爾雅的咖喱,味道濃郁,外露的番茄香甜,內斂絲絲香料,加上煮得剛好的 basmati rice。份量對小妹來說是比較多的,自己一個人午餐,小妹是會帶餐盒把 1/3 帶走。/ Phirni — Badaam & pista crumble|rose petal ice cream。****/Coffee ****小妹對印度歷史感興趣也對印度甜品十分熱愛(當然限於某一些啦)。印度甜品很多過甜而且味道單調,好似取悅兒童口味的糖果,有些卻令小妹驚為天人,以 galub jamun 為例,小妹朋友一律覺得甜得不能入口 🙄 ,做得好的 galub jamun,炸奶球淹沒濃郁糖漿中,氣味芬芳,不要看輕簡單材料,雖然甜,卻層次分明,很好吃,小妹可以吃不停。今天的 phirni 也是傳統甜品—— 開心果杏仁米露 😄,在 The Chinnery,當然精緻不少呢。Phirni 是 ground rice 用牛奶開成的米漿做成的 porridge (或者糊仔),口感奶滑帶米香。這裡的 phirni 甜度不過火,加上開心果碎和杏仁 crumble (很傳統嘅配搭),增添 texture 的對比變化。 不用多說,小妹最沉醉 rose petal ice cream 隱隱花香。這個甜品口感豐富交融,味道多姿,毫無瑕疵,是五星級數。【 總結 】云云 MO 嘅餐廳,小妹只愛 Mandarin Grill 及 The Chinnery。Captain’s Bar 也好,不過那真的是一間酒吧,只有少量款式食物供應,午餐去 Captain’s Bar 當然是吃 Curry Tiffin 啦。The Chinnery 食物 consistent,Tikka Chicken 從來都美味, Fish & Chips 永遠炸得完美,經典英國菜加上印度的風味更歷久常新。至於服務都是一貫 old school Gentlemen’s Club(現在很多 clubs 都開放給女性了) 的水準,專業,full of pride,看似 aloof,又從不會待慢客人喔 ☝🏽😎。在《千日里》感受西方描畫的東方,彷如  George Chinnery 筆下十九世紀的印度和澳門景色,那種坐落東方融入東方的英倫氛圍,時間停頓在過去光景的美好一刻中,小妹沉醉不已。≈ / George Chinnery / 題外話。以下是小妹對這位畫家的感覺,放在最後,沒有興趣的話,食評讀到上一段可以作結了 😌。George Chinnery 是小妹最愛畫家 J. M. W. Turner 同代人(十九世紀),盛年時代到來印度。作為畫家,Chinnery 在印度其實很成功,但是卻後因為「大使」債台高築,再出走澳門,因緣際會,他留下一批值得細心欣賞的澳門「寫生」。小妹對「工筆」十分迷戀(「工筆」作為形式,不限於中國畫,所以不論中、日、西方畫家細緻的「工筆」(fine brushwork),小妹都愛)。Chinnery 的油畫,一如與他同代的風景畫大師們,都有「工筆般」的整潔,所描繪印度和澳門的風景人物,構圖細緻卻自然(不少是寫意於寫生),而 Chinnery 更用色雅淡,安然寧逸,小妹可以望著他的畫半天不動呢。人在英倫的時候,常常看到 John Constable 鄉郊景色,甚是美麗,不過小妹認為 Chinnery 的畫比 Constable 真誠呢 😌。 繼續閱讀

the overall experience was quite good. Chicken tikka and fish curry were nice. Garlic naan was not impressive and the Indian cheese and minced meat pankcake was a bit too oily for me. deep fry chicken wings were very nice, crispy on the outside and still very juicy on the insideThe fries were a bit over priced and those actually are potato wedges but not fries as what was stated on the menu.the rise pudding with rose was a surprise, a very refreshing dessert. The space is very small... I wouldn't say it is cozy... it's small. 繼續閱讀

昨天是老婆的生日,我約了三個朋友來祝賀一下。因為我是CENTRAL+會員,在會員有效期的一年內是有一個生日蛋糕和一瓶香檳贈送,剛好昨天晚上就用得上了。這餐廳環境不錯,雖然是英式設計,但牆壁上就掛上法國人像油畫。我們昨天也是坐在今年梁特首過生日的同一個桌子上用餐。餐廳不單氣氛濃厚,食物和服務都會駛到客人再來光顧。 繼續閱讀

文華東方酒店1樓隱藏著一間低調英式復古的傳統料理酒館:The Chinnery千日里一間居有歷史的餐廳 主打傳統英式和印度菜·和同事一起選了個雙人英式午餐套餐:傳統炸魚薯條+英式牧羊人派+咖啡或茶·🐟🍟 傳統炸魚薯條香脆薯條🍟加上外脆內軟的炸魚柳 分別配搭蕃茄醬和塔塔醬 如果可以配上一杯啤酒就完美了 哈哈 但這只是午餐 待會還要上班啦~清醒一點!🤪·🌮英式牧羊人派是源自英格蘭的餡餅 英式傳統家常料理是肉派的一種 據傳是來自一名農村主婦利用前日沒吃完的燒烤羊肉 剁碎之後加入配料及蔬菜拌炒 再抹上厚厚的薯溶🥔烘烤而成 口感帶有層次 配上紅酒🍷 簡直一絕👍🏻·可選擇咖啡☕/茶🍵  還附了兩件甜點享用(布朗尼及蘋果派)🧡 繼續閱讀
