my dad wanted to take a foreign friend to go yum-cha. we could not go to lin heung because it was a little not so presentable and might scare away foreigners, so we decided to go to chiu chow gardens in sheung wan, because of its renovated decor and nicer food presentation.the restaurant was a bit crowded since it was a public holiday, and we were located among a number of noisy tables with people chatting quite loudly. anyways, we ordered a few dim-sums as well as a veggie in chicken booth and
the restaurant was a bit crowded since it was a public holiday, and we were located among a number of noisy tables with people chatting quite loudly. anyways, we ordered a few dim-sums as well as a veggie in chicken booth and pan-fried chiu chowese noodles.
the spring roll was stuffed with mashed taro and was nice, not too oily and heavy. the foreigner perhaps was more familiar to this than we do since spring rolls is almost a must-have in foreign chinese restaurants
next came the cha siu bun: with three in the steamer, it was quite small in size but the bun was soft enough. the cha siu fillings was lovely and not too salty-excellent.
shrimp dumplings was good! the dumpling was not too sticky and chewy, with plenty of shrimp enough to burst the skin open! it was fresh and not salty, and was yummy
steamed beef balls was not overcooked and the beef went well with the sauce. however i was a little too full to eat a whole ball so i had to share it with my mum-still lovely because of the texture tho;
vegetables in chicken booth with ham was lovely because the booth was really yummmm...the veggies had absorbed the taste of it and was aromatic, and the ham bits was not very salty but added a distinctive 'chinese' flavour to the dish! yum!
last but not least - the chiu chowese pan-fried noodles was great!!!! with one side a little burnt and crunchy on the edge, it tasted heavenly with vinegar and sugar added. the egg noodles were of a rich egg flavour and was tangy! lovely-the foreigner loved it so much that she took a picture of it!
it was a lovely lunch, and the environment was already a lot better than that in lin heung, regardless of the noise from the people-theres no way you can enjoy a peace of mind in a chinese restaurant, especially on a public holiday
