Walking in the hot sun, boyfriend led me to a cafe for a much needed air conditioning break. Located inside the Kam Tin Glocal Youth Hub is a cafe called Coffee Lab. Outside it looked a bit run down but once inside it's completely different. The place is very big with spacious tables. There is a wall of books for browsing. The barista is where you also order and pay for your food. But here's the thing. How much does it cost? It is up to you because all proceeds go to the Youth Hub where they will use this to teach barista classes and other events to young people in the area. So, you pay for what you feel it's worth.
They serve various coffee and other drinks if you don't want coffee.
The food changes daily and they will post a photo of what is on hand.
Once you order they give you number card that also has a polaroid photo attached. It was simple, yet worked. They will bring the food to you when ready.
I had the creme caramel. This was really good. The sweetness was just right to balance the coffee. It was soft and smooth. There was enough sauce as well.
I also ordered an ice latte. Probably one of the most beautiful ice lattes I've ever come across as they added a bit of foam on top. The coffee was wonderful. Strong yet smooth with a hint of nuttiness. There was good balance of milk to espresso and not too much ice to water it all down.
Service isn't fast but this is a place to really relax and take a break before heading back out. One of the most unique coffee shops in Hong Kong. Will be back if in the area.
