Located on my favorite quiet area of Causeway Bay, Haven Street, is a little cafe with a comfortable design. Wooden tables, metal chairs.
Interior walls have a cute chalkboard design with cute little writings all over. They have a cake display and other pastries at the cashier area.
Menu had all day meals and some interesting desserts. It was gorgeously photographed and displayed in a clipboard style. Service was friendly for when I walked in, I was greeted at the door and items on the menu were explained on how it was made. But I wanted lunch so ordered a classic bacon hot fried potato skillet and an ice latte.
Ice latte came in a metal mug. It had a tiny bit of foam and was quite strong and not watered down. Not bad coffee.
Classic bacon hot fried potato skillet was pretty to look at as it was presented on a really small hot cast iron skillet. Potatoes were soft and nicely roasted. There were some red and green peppers which I think could have used a minute more cooking. It was however, under seasoned. And this coming from someone who uses so little salt and pepper when I cook, boyfriend reaches for the salt and pepper all the time for his own portion. The menu said it included an eggs benedict and this is where I will rant. There was a layer of hollandaise but it was watery and bland. Absolutely no lemon tang at all. How hard is it to add a touch of lemon to Hollandaise? Does anyone in Hong Kong know how to make a proper hollandaise?
And then the so called eggs benedict. Eggs benedict by definition is poached eggs with ham on top of an English muffin and layered with hollandaise. Placing two poached eggs on top of anything else is not an eggs benedict. It's called poached eggs. Poached eggs by definition is softly boiled eggs that cooked out of its shell in boiling water. The yolk must be runny while the egg whites are done and not transparent.
This so called poached egg had egg white that was still transparent.
And the yolk was hard boiled. So hard boiled, I wouldn't even consider this an attempt at a poached egg. Again, under seasoned.
It's sad how places offering all day breakfast styles sprout up all over and not many fit the bill. Yet, many will think it's great. I, however, just hope for a decent poached egg in my fake Hong Kong style all day breakfast. That's all I ask and hope for. My expectations are pretty low.
At least the coffee was decent. I'll be back to try something else as it's cozy enough.
