This Italian establishment is a must-go-to for a most relaxing environment, great food amidst a backdrop of pleasant service and attention from all the wait staff not limited to Alex and Leo who were a delight and Raquel, the manager behind it all.If you enjoy the finer things that remind you of Italy, look no further. If you enjoy the finer things that remind you of Italy, look no further. Starters of Pane Pecorino along with the complimentary Pinzimonio & Nodini went well with our sparkling wine. No forced conversation from the staff, just pleasant attentiveness while we took our time to relax after a long week.
Our cameriere, Alex patiently went through the menu as I'm not versed in the Italian language but fret not, the menu has been translated into both English and Cantonese and I noticed some other staff could effortlessly switch between both languages.
The Garganelli was a pasta dish of beef ragu and Alex was proud to tell us that it was handmade fresh by the staff in the kitchen and it tasted it. With this knowledge, I'm certain that all pasta dishes would be as pleasant as they sound on the menu.
As for the steak (which I'm sure most of you readers had come to read about), we chose the 30-day dry-aged Controfiletto con L'Osso. While it doesn't "melt-in-your-mouth" like so many people love to say when describing wagyu, the ageing process of this Italian cut of steak still afforded a most soft mouth feel without any funkiness. In fact, I prefer this to Japanese steak. There wasn't much moisture but that didn't detract from the tenderness and the concentration of flavour made me fight with the other half for the glory of having the last piece.
She won.
Patata went well with the steak and I sat back afterwards, stuffed and ready to call it a day...
...and then the desserts came.
The cameriere and cameriera showed us three choices; olive oil cake, tiramisu and meringata. I'd had such a lovely evening but caught second wind in my sails when I saw how beautiful they looked and since the evening was going so well, we ordered the cake and meringata. It didn't disappoint. An espresso and sweet dessert wine rounded the evening off.
I couldn't finish the dessert so had to take it home. I have no regrets on ordering so much food and neither will you when you're welcomed like an old friend and treated like a member of the family.
Raquel, Alex, Leo and the rest of the staff, we'll be back and thank you for looking after us.
n.B. the missus took the pictures on her phone. I did not but the food looked exactly like the other countless pictures everyone else had taken. If and when I can upload them, I'll send the pictures on here.
