Nestled in Sheung Wan, this French fine dining restaurant offers a charming and intimate experience. The ambience is elegant, featuring tasteful decor and quality furniture. While the space is cozy with a limited number of tables, it boasts two coveted window seats with pleasant street views.
Conveniently located at street level with metered parking outside, please note that access involves a few steps at the entrance and an internal staircase, making it unsuitable for wheelchair users. A significant drawback is the lack of an internal restroom; patrons must use facilities located in the commercial building outside. These restrooms, which require a key though, are not particularly clean.
The restaurant is easily accessible by public transport. From Sheung Wan MTR Station (Exit A2), it's a short five-minute walk up a slight slope.
They open promptly at 12:00 PM for lunch, serving a set menu that allows you to choose one ($150), two ($198), or three courses ($260). All options include tea or coffee.
Starters: The choices are arugula salad, mushroom parfait, or country pâté. The salad is rather plain, but the smooth and rich parfait, served with bread, is excellent. The country pâté, made from pork, duck, and foie gras, has a somewhat coarse texture that may not appeal to all.
Mains: Options include halibut, duck leg confit, pork cutlet, or risotto. The creamy risotto is a standout, topped with deliciously crispy roasted mushrooms. The pork cutlet is also superb - thick, deep-fried, tender, and pre-sliced for convenience. The halibut is flavorful and well-complemented by its sauce. While the duck leg confit was a bit dry, its skin was perfectly crispy, and the seasoning was just right.
Desserts: Absolutely amazing. The crème brûlée is excellent, and the choux is light and creamy. Best of all, they are not overly sweet.
Be aware that the restaurant charges both a corkage fee and a cake-cutting fee. An à la carte menu is also available.
Despite the issue with the external restrooms and its proximity to the Lok Ku Road refuse collection point, the overall dining experience is highly positive. The excellent food quality, beautiful presentation, and lovely ambience make it a worthwhile visit. By the way, the service is excellent too.
