I was quite surprised that Maxim’s have launched the Victoria Cake because it is not their style to have English cakes.+++++++++++++++++++A Victoria cake is also known as the Victoria sandwich or Victoria Sponge cake is basically two layers of sponge cake with raspberry/strawberry jam and whipped double cream or vanilla cream in the middle. The top of the cake is decorated and dusted with icing sugar.Photos of a Victoria sponge cake from UK's Sainsbury.+++++++++++++++++++The one at Maxim’s doesn’t quite look like a Victoria cake because it is topped with berries and these berries are probably there to make it worth $80 (small)/$148 (large).Frankly $80 is overpriced and in general ALL bakeries in Hong Kong are overpriced.You can get Victoria cakes for around HKD$20-40 in the UK and the high-end cakes are still cheaper than Hong Kong.There were two Victoria cakes, a chocolate version and a Vanilla version but to be honest, there is no such thing as a Chocolate Victoria cake although it may be a modern thing.Anyway, I didn’t have any expectations because most of their cakes are local style but I tried both anyway.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆Vanilla Victoria Cakeretty good with decent cream but the jam was in the middle and not evenly distributed.The sponge cake was light and fluffy.I would have given top marks for this cake if it wasn’t for the silly strawberries on top and the stupid biscuit base.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆Chocolate Victoria Cake:Evidently a delicious Black Forest cake filled with delicious cherries in the middle which tastes better than their so-called Black Forest cakes that they sell!★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆…查看更多

Currently there are 1,600 paper mache pandas designed by Paulo Grangeon on a world tour. HAPPY MOTHER's DAY!!!Maxim's have launched a good choice of cakes for the big day.My favourite is the Diamond Box which is a strawberry cake with a beautiful box and a white chocolate shaped diamond on top with flowers beside it.The next on the list in terms of taste and appearance is the Flower Cake and the Sunflower Black forest.I like the flower on the cross section when you slice the Flower Cake and the Black forest is always a popular flavour.Then there is the sweet Macaron Tower or the Flower rainbow cake to choose from.For mango lovers, there is the Sunflower mango crispy or the Rose blossom for rose lovers.If all those choices were not enough, there are also two more fruity and summery cakes for energetic mums:For down to earth mums, there are Chiffon cakes and for mums with green fingers they will love the Tiramisu Garden!!It appears that Maxim's was a popular choice for the Mothers day cake.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Diamond box:Thanks to Maxim's PR for sending me a redemption card for the Diamond box.Basically there was a strawberry chocolate base that was part of the bottom half of the pillow, in the middle it was soft cake with fresh strawberry slices and strawberry mousse.The mousse was light complemented by the strawberry slices.On top of the cake, it was decorated with a pretty jewellery box containing a diamond made from white chocolate.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★…查看更多

A while ago, Maxim's launched their Happy Rainbow cake as a kick off to their 45th anniversary.In addition to that, they have now launched the Baby cakes which represent the cakes sold at those different decades.There are four cakes:1960s - German black forest cake1970s - Chestnut and cream cake1980s - Fruit and cream cake2000s - Crispy mango cakeThe cakes look really cute on display and are about 4 inches in diameter.Visually all of them looked really good and scaled to the right proportion especially the chestnut cake and the fruit cake.They can be bought in twos or the complete set.There were only two that I thought were going to taste nice so I just got the Black forest and the fruit and cream cake.
