Date of visit : 20 May 2013 (Mon) 8 pmNo. of diners : 10Average cost per head : $280 (after 10% discount)Corkage : $20 eachFood quality : 7.8/10Environment : 7.5/10Service : 7.8/10Value-for-money : 7/10Overall rating : 7.6/10Operating for over 40 years, this Chinese restaurants and an ex-night club with live performances of local singers will soon be closed down due to demolishing of the whole building.Before moving to its new location in Wanchai, the restaurant was packed with loyal and new customers for “worshipping” and recalling the fond old memories. The food quality was average in general, I look forward to some improvement after their relocation to Wanchai in August.a) Giant Grouper Cooked in 2 Ways 花尾龙趸两味 ($596) – 8/10The first dish was deep fried giant grouper. The batter was crispy and non-greasy, and the fillets were sinewy. The second dish was steamed giant grouper bones. Still with a lot of flesh on the bones, the fish skin was sturdy too. The dried mandarin orange peel and ginger slices enhanced the flavour of the fish.b) Pan-fried King Prawns with Soya Sauce 豉油王煎虾 ($480) – 7.8/10The king prawns were first deep fried before frying with soya sauce, thus the prawn was a bit overcooked and dried despite the aroma of the soya sauce.c) Sautéed Oyster with Red Wine and Onion in Clay Pot 红酒洋葱焗生蚝 ($333) – 8/10A good balance of maintaining a crispy skirt and soft belly of the oysters. With abundant of onion, the sauce was delicious to go with rice. d) Signature Roasted Pig 喜万年即烧猪 ($700) – 8/10This is the signature dish of the restaurants. Not only in particular the pair of flashing eyes that used to be used in traditional Chinese banquets for wedding and birthdays, their hand-roasted piglet was delicious. Moderate crispiness and fatness, just that the pancake was quite rough and with uneven thickness.e) Deep Fried Squid炸鲜鱿 ($88) – 7/10The disk was quite disappointed in terms of portion and cut size of the squid. I just had a feeling that half of the original dish was eaten by someone, leaving tiny pieces on the plate. The batter was too soft and failed to create the crispy coating.f) Tofu with Dried Shrimp Roe and Veggie虾籽锅塌豆腐 ($78) – 7/10The tofu was too soggy with the thick and tasteless sauce, shrimp roes were scarcely found.g) Sautéed Kale清炒芥兰 ($156 for 2 portions) – 7.5/10, Stir Fried Chinese Lettuce in Sizzling Clay Pot 啫啫唐生菜 ($78) – 7/10Paying $150+ for sautéed plain kale would be a ripped off. 趁著喜万年要搬迁,特地来品尝一下怀旧菜式。环境其实颇挤迫,枱与枱之间的空间很少,因此整个楼面十分嘈吵,我们坐在一张大枱上,很难聊天。服务也很有旧式酒楼的「水准」,例如我们点了一份煎藕饼,可是待应完全没有告诉我们一客原来只有6件,我们一行12人根本不够吃。菜式方面倒是有好吃的、也有一般般的。全体烧乳猪:猪的眼睛是两颗红色的小灯泡,很传统。烧猪的皮很脆,不错,但肉质不够松化。金钱鸡:或许我真的不太喜欢内脏,这道菜不懂欣赏。家乡咸鱼煎莲藕饼:很普通,莲藕味道不重。煲仔焗蚝:这个十分好吃!蚝十分鲜嫩多汁,而且每一只也有手掌般大。调味的酱汁也很好吃,因此大家也把伴碟的洋葱吃光。焗鱼肠:蛋焗得很香,而且鱼肠也没有怪味。咕噜肉:不过不失。全晚最大的惊喜,是在甜品部分。莲蓉西米布甸:喜万年的莲蓉非常香,能吃出是自家制作的,未吃进口已经感到阵阵莲蓉的香气。这个布甸实际上挺甜的,不过由于真的很好吃,所以大家也吃了很多。而且焦糖化的表皮最好吃了,香脆甜腻。寿包:既然莲蓉有质素,寿包想当然的也是相当可口,面包的部份很松软,配上香甜的莲蓉真是绝配,即使吃了一整毎也不会太腻。总括而言,一家酒楼最好吃的菜式居然是甜品,真是有点让人掉眼镜。

jan 04, 13............9人来食dinner............叫咗 :1) 金牌乳猪全体 - 1只 (预订)-皮很脆,肉嫩,juicy,很不错-但d包望落都倒胃,甩头甩骨咁,所以我哋都无唛人食d包2) 虾多士-虾肉带爽-只喺个面包油咗少少3) 炒豆苗-清清哋-相信豆苗炒前有拖过鸡汤-不油4) 家乡咸鱼煎莲藕饼-咸鱼味同上次1样都喺唔强-肉质都唔喺实,都ok的5) 焗鱼肠-表面有点烟韧,里面唔够湿润,无甘润嘅香味-食友"匹"到𠮶part有腥味6) 焗蚝-个蚝都ok大,只喺里面唔够juicy-味道ok的7) 牛肉煲仔饭-呢个饭同𩠌嘅比例唔多得,饭多过d𩠌咁多-唔喺个个好似我咁多饭少𩠌架嘛-个牛肉饭有陈皮香,肉滑-饭焦做唔到脆身𠮶种,因为个煲size太大,所以无奈中间嘅饭好似蒸饭咁啰8) 鼎湖上素蒸粉果 - 1打-质素同上次相近-皮很薄,2啖就可以食晒1只-有木耳,菇菌咁,清清哋 9) 糖水 (送)-同上次1样,都喺红豆沙,绿豆沙同紫米露10) 水果盘 (送)-生果爽口,ok的

今次的生日饭局地点,由我来选,总觉十多人的聚会,吃中菜是比较合适,所以也朝著这方面去想,最终挑了亲民的喜万年酒楼,因为我想大家一起吃烧猪,会是很开心的事。印象中这里是人气不错的店子,所以晨咁早请拔兄订了位,但原来,周五的晚上竟没有几台客,不用订台也可以。反而,有些食物,如金钱鸡、西米布甸等,是必须要预留,否则明天请早。烧猪上桌,猪头是旧式有闪灯的,大家马上举机拍摄,场面欢乐,我拣这里的原因就是如此。原只烧猪斩件,芝麻皮香脆,皮下脂肪适中,肉质嫩滑,带有咸香,沾上微甜的乳猪酱,果然味美,难怪每台都会点来吃。靓女牙医想吃虾多士和咸鱼煎藕饼,不妨各点一客。多士炸得香脆干身,咬落没有很油腻的感觉,虾胶弹牙,还有点咸蛋黄,只嫌味道仍是稍为淡口一点,但问题不算很大;至于藕饼,有咸鱼在内自然香,口感也不错,没投诉。再来的两款就不行了,先是红酒煮生蚝,生蚝并不肥美,口感自然逊色,同时欠缺红酒味道,大家都不欣赏。但更甚的是焗鱼肠,香不香脆仍是其次,直头是腥的,我只尝了一点便放弃。还有煲仔饭,牛肉是没有问题,都有点陈皮味道,但米饭不够香,似在吃蒸白饭,下了豉油也没大帮助,就是饭焦亦未见讨好,大家都没有多吃。素菜反而好一点,蒜茸炒豆苗,蒜香虽不突出,起码豆苗很嫩口,当然这也是吃豆苗的最佳时节。另外的鼎湖上素粉果,看样子是可以的,只是外皮晶莹,然而一口咬下,便知道是味精挂帅的出品,因而又是不受欢迎。个人觉得,很多老牌酒家的点心师傅,下味精也是颇凶的,不知大家同意否?店方敬送糖水,有红豆沙、绿豆沙以及紫米露,我拣了前者,只能说是普通,不过没收钱的就不多加挑剔。最后,有生日蛋糕和一些外来的小食,希望我们的饭聚可以继续维持,大家欢喜一万年。

来追这里,大家也知道要吃烧猪,所以也不多作介绍了.反而,我认为这里的冬瓜盅也非常好喝.原只大冬瓜卖相也很讨好,汤底有火腿,蟹肉,非常清甜而且鲜味,伴随有大量蟹肉,足料,因此也非常好喝.此等菜色已经愈来愈少人做了!
