Dinner for 2 with my lovely girlfriend. Restaurant was busy with no tables available so we sat at the bar stools. There are many sets: we picked the $178 per person set.FoodPumkin soup which was thick but nothing special; sashimi (each set has 3 pieces of salmon sashimi) quite good quality; prawn tempura was tasty with crispy batter.Main course of teriyaki beef (+$30 to the set) was ok: well cooked beef but the teriyaki sauce was quite thin and lacked the sweetness I was expecting. My girlfriend picked the mixed sashimi rice bowl which was very tasty with generous portions of fish.Highlight was the dessert: mango pancakes with fresh creme (+$12 to the set).ServiceA little slow and they didn't clear our plates away which isn't great when you have a set menu with 6 courses. Also took a long time for my main course to come (they may have forgotten before we reminded them).We'll go back again :~)

Service was fast and polite. But I'm surprised that the waiter did not notice a strong spell coming out of the washroom. Wonder if anyone checked or cared. After changing tables, had my curry tonkatsu which had a hard batter and rather dry pork. There are a number of Japanese restaurants in the neighborhood that I'd rather go to.

I came here last night and the moment I sat down I felt like I was being rushed. I came at 10pm and I knew they do last orders from 11pm.When I sat I noticed it was very cold as there was air conditioning on so I asked the waiter if he could switch it off and he kindly proceeded.I asked for a foie gras starter and steak as a main. They got that mixed around and brought the steak first and I said I wanted my starter first so asked them to return it. This was the first mess up and it meant I had to wait longer.By the time my starter came, the flavour was very bland and there was no foie gras to be tasted. It just tasted like a typical roast leg. When I finished the starter I had to wait a further 25 minutes for my main and by then I was starting to feel annoyed with my choice of restaurant. Ironically I was one of the last customers inside apart from a couple in the corner. The steak came and I give a thumbs up for the presentation and flavour. Was very nice! Probably the only nice thing...Half way through my meal the waiter put the air conditioning back on so I asked him to switch it off because it was freezing. I felt like he wanted to throw me out as soon as possible because he probably wanted to go home. He then abruptly came to my table, whilst Im still eating and handed me the bill. This was the most terrible service in Hong Kong I experienced. He even had the ordasity to add service charge. I cant believe they did not offer me a desserts menu!!!My bill was $250 with added $25 service. I gave the waiter $300 and said keep the change. I told him and the girl that the service was very bad and felt rushed. I live in Kennedy town and said I will never return again and I will make sure none of my friends go there. The waiter just said "ok".I run restaurants in London also and I know what is good service. The customer must leave feeling like they want to come again. I did not feel like this at Igawa.Mateo

Reason for visit:Granny wanted to have Japanese food, so instead of going to the usual spots, I suggested that we come to here since we have never tried it before. Environment/ Decor & Hygiene:The decor was of a typical Japanese restaurant you see in Hong Kong. I think because we arrived right at 12 when it opens, it still had a stuffy, weird smell inside that wasn't too pleasant. Luckily, as the lunch crowd started to come, the smell disappeared. Service:SLOW. I think I spent more time waiting than eating. It took forever for someone to come to the table, and it took forever for my main to come. I got annoyed because other tables around me that came in after I ordered got their food before I did. Besides the person in charge, all the other staff didn't seem to care much. They had no smiles, and looked as if they didn't want to be there at all. Taste & Value:There were a lot of lunch sets to choose from and most were very reasonably priced. My grandma likes fish a lot so I ordered a mackerel pike set ($48) and a deep fried seafood set ($72) for us. The lunch sets we ordered came with a miso soup, salad, rice and sushi or steamed egg. Soup- a bit blandSalad- good because it had a lot of sesame sauce, which I think they used the one I have at homeSalmon sushi- surprisingly fresh and good California Rolls- Okay and very fresh as well Next, the deep fried combo came. It came with a 2 oysters, 2 shrimps and tonkatsu. (Sorry about the picture, I almsot forgot to take a picture and only remembered after eating the oyster )Oyster- quite goodShrimp- there was too much batter so I couldn't really taste the shrimpTonkatsu- soso, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but there was a bit too much batter too like he shrimp and the meat was thinWhen we almost finished the above, the fish came, so finally I had some rice to eat with the food. Although it took so long to come, at least the fish was good I guess. The fish was well seasoned and both of us liked it, but because this fish has a lot of bones, it wasn't fun to eat. Final Verdict:Every customer was supposed to recieve a $5 coupon for every $50 spent, but the staff held on to them and just handed me the bill. Okay, I guess I won't be needing them because I won't be coming back although their food is not bad and is at a reasonable price.
