Very French!
Maison ES
2015-06-07
A new shop in star street wan chai. Lots of fresh flowers at the entrance and once stepped in, i felt like in france! Very nicely renovated, elegant crystal lightings, girly floral plates and spacious tables. There is no set lunches or dinners, everything is a-la-cart. We ordered the foie gras wunton, a pork belly n the steak. The wuntons were deep fried with fig and sauce cooked mushrooms and lily pedals as sides. Sweet and salty. A quite heavy entree to start with. The steak came with hot mushroom and beef brooth dip sauce, its nicely grilled outside n tender juicy inside, good! The pork belly is cooked with sweet sauce again but its too fatty (ofcoz, its pork belly). But indeed its niceThe staff are friendly and polite, we had a great time there!…Read More

very nice bread
Maison Eric Kayser

here for a quick dinner before a concert. most of the shops were pretty full at 6pm and the Jamie's said i had to wait for 2 hrs for the table, crazy.i was served quickly for a table for 2. we ordered Le Croissant Burger. myself isn't really a croissant lover but knew that it's famous here and thus tried this signature. it's nice indeed. the croissant with very nice butter flavoured, the beef inside is juicy with the very big cream cheese inside, very full and heavy tasting. the potato chips that came with, is lightly salted only can taste the original potato. i didn't feel it's as heavy and as full as the BLT burger.the second one we tried was the La Champignon Assorted Wild Mushrooms and Truffle. it's came with very nice smell of the truffle oil. very crispy base and came as very hot and freshly baked. the mushrooms are in bigger pieces so it's very mouth filling. the cheese on top was very thick! this is very evil!nice dishes we've picked. and the free bread basket it served was great too; indeed it makes very nice bread, can't resist to go to the shop and buy for some more after the meal.…Read More

meaty but not friendly dinner
炊豕店

recently i'm so keen on trying the small shops in causeway bay or wan chai area, especially when there's more and more big names and chain shops open. i'd love to support the small shops instead, where you can see people's real effort.tonight it's the taiwanese style pork chop bowl. only ard 10-15 seats facilitated and needed to queue a bit. there isn't much choice but the very common taiwanese like pork chop / mince pork / chicken wings / egg etc. i got the most common pork chop bowl with taiwanese soy sauce. it came after a few minutes upon seated. full big bowl of rice and (for me) a huge fried pork chop on top. dooly! the pork chop was crispy and juicy, the batter wasn't too thick so didn't feel very guilty. i think the mince pork sauce could be stronger flavoured so to mix with the big bowl of rice. a very belly filling and meaty dinner i had!the staffs weren't friendly. they were busy all the time and with no smiles, they ordered the customers to tick the menu quickly without any patience. must be exhausted after a long day of work but please, make your customer feel welcomed!…Read More

another choice of japs dip-in noodles
俺之沾麵專門店
2015-04-24
i thought 周月 was the only choice of japs dip-in noodle but now i found another one to recommend.very small shop which can only carry ard 15 people. i waited for >30 mins on a weekend lunch hour, fortunately it's not too hot yet. again people need to pick their preference on a paper before entering with thickness of noodle, soup base etc. i wanted the thickness noodle but the lady said it's been discontinued for a while and only the standard size is in stock. i also love there's choice of portion and i think for ladies, Small bowl is enough.I got the pork soup base with black garlic. the first sip was extremely salty! very strong after taste of pork and garlic and can tell how much ingredients they've put in, and their effort - i believe they've spent so much time on tuning the soup base and it's accumulated day after days. it's tasty but really too strong that i cannot finish the soup as they recommended to. (there's a poster hanged up giving a step-by-step - people usually finished the noodle, then inform the staff to dilute the soup so that to drink them all)it's a quick meal but i'm definitely happy with, and am going to try their other soup base later.…Read More

a tiny break
Little Break Coffee & Kitchen
2015-04-24
lunch here in the weekend noon time, it's a very busy shop. i wanted to try the pancake burger thing but it's not available at lunch hour! Sad! i got the full english breakfast with toast. although it's toasted it's still soft and spongy. the scumbled egg with black truffle smell good too and smooth, it's extremely good to go with the toast and the baked beans. very big and full plate of food and satisfactory. definitely enough for a man too. my friend got a steak (steak at noon!) and was grilled nicely. fries on sides and it's warm. friend and i finished our main pretty quickly and stayed and chatted a bit. but the staff seemed not quite happy with us and came up a serveral time to clean up our table, we could feel the pressure. we picked this shop thought it's a cafe to sit and relax but it's far too busy and wants more turnover.if we talk about food and coffee it's fine, but it's not as its name "a little break", or else your break is far too tiny.…Read More

tens of piggys
Kanada-ya
2015-04-24
i just came right before the peak dinner time at 6:20 so was served a seat immediately (lucky). it's like most of the japs noodle bar that there's a list of preference. i just choose the very generic common noodle which i think is the signature and is the place to start with.the noodle came after 10-min wait. the soup base was very rich and concentrated of tens of piggys! i got the half-boiled egg too and it's nice, the half-boiled yolk was orange and the egg was nicely sauced. but just i think the meat was as thin as lace ribbon, which didn't give any texture when eating.very soon it got busy and people were lining up outside. not bad choice.…Read More

fun place to explore
Ball Ba Balloons (LOL ice cream shop)
2015-04-10
it's a small shop in a tricky place, quite hard to locate if you're not familiar with this rural causeway bay area.there were two flavour - blue vanilla and chocolate. Then to choose toppings of chocolate sauce, caramel or the most popular fairy floss (cotton candy) on top. Then, there're different colour of the cotton candy can choose from - blue, pink, orange, purple, yellow and green.tonight I got the blue vanilla ice cream with pink cotton candy. the softee is smooth and huge cotton candy cover it up like a hat, very cute appearance and yummy! a bite of cotton candy, a bite of the ice cream, cold and sweet! this shop also sells party stuff like the balloons, candles or mini games, very fun place to explore!…Read More

excellent cake and cream
La Famille
2015-04-10
was here for a relaxing afternoon. there isn't much space and seat. i got a seat facing the wall and the bench just could fit only a plate and the tea pot aside.i had a French Rose cake and a green tea. the pinkish rose cake looked so cute and girlie! very matching with the decorations on the wall. with very strong smooth rose taste and light texture of the cake itself, it's very suitable for girl like very posh lady in an afternoon, with tea pot of one! and i think my green tea to go with rose cake is matching too, instead of getting a sweeter tea on the list like peach etc. the little flower on top is edible but taste like plastic (or foam). the cream is smooth and rich too.the cakes sold out quite quickly and there were so much call to order the whole cake. but indeed they do excellent cakes and cream and i'd like to recommend to girls around!…Read More

Farm Milk Co. Ltd.
2015-04-10
it's a sunny sunday so we arranged some outdoor activities and came here for a little break. there wasn't much people at late 4pm, coz i think it's about its closing time.we got a steamed milk pudding and luncheon egg noodles.the milk pudding came as very watery, i had a little hestitate if it's really in shape at the beginning. it did, and just because it's smooth like silk! we're impressed! very strong goat smell so i could tell it's very fresh, but my man couldn't stand it!the luncheon and egg noodles was ok, the luncheon was nicely pan fried and we were straving that time, so think it outstandingly good haha.i finally got a whole fat milk take away and enjoyed it during the rest of afternoon.there're goat and stray cats around, felt ourselves so natural and close to the nature! haha! fun time in the weekend!…Read More

not good nor bad
Fresh Seafood Restaurant
2015-04-10
we had dinner in a small group of 4 tonight. most food that we ordered were quite salty and oily. we had the deep fried noodlefish, they called it "chinese french fries" which is very cute. also had its signature pan fried mince pork cake with salty fish. it is very terribly oily! but with the salty fish, indeed it tastes quite nice and dente, very good to go with rice or beer. then we had a fried vege and a tofu, not special not bad either. it's a small place and table are quite close together so is noisy throughout the night. the staff hardly squeeze along the path and is dangerous for children.overall it's not good nor bad.…Read More

Honey Granny
2015-03-12
i was quite surprised to see there's a branch in tuseng kwan O which is hidden in a corner and no queue outside.i got a honey ice cream with popcorn at the bottom. funny everything is sweet and match, the honey indeed is smooth and mixing with everything it gives texture, layers and layers of sweetness. Funny.it's not a busy shop and staff were quite relaxing, with the TV playing loud k-pop, feel quite good and such a big contrast to the busy busy branches.would definitely come again.…Read More

love the place
Mistral
2015-03-12
to celebrate anniversary, we wanted to pick either french or italian, Mistral isn't a top hit but indeed the food and service is good and we love it.we chose to have the Tasting set tonight so we don't have to bother to pick each section.first came a white foam with dry ice underneath, and green pea foam and sundried cherry tomato on top. i think it's tofu foam but i don't quite like it anyway, very light taste to awake the tastebud suppose.the welcome bread basket was better, there's garlic round bun, break stick and rosemary bread, to dip with black olive paste or sundried tomato paste. the garlic and rosemary ones were nice and i couldn't stop myself from having too much which quite occupying my stomach! i wish i could have a soup to go with at the same time.then it came another appentizer, it's a sashimi of prawns, tuna, scallop with slice of mango and watermelon. the prawn was so fresh and thick, very nice! and the way they put mango and watermelon slice was uplifting the whole dish too. very clean and fresh taste in mouth!then it came a salad with black truffle. the chef came to our table and slice the truffle directly onto the salad. however it's not as strong as i suppose and when it goes with the asparagus and the salad paste, the truffle was minimised.afterawhile it came the lobster spaghetti, i love this most. very rich taste of the lobster while it's not terribly creamy and heavy, clearly seen the meat of lobster, with fried garlic to enhance the favour, and al dente spaghetti too!main course was black angus beef with duck liver. it's very tender beef but a bit disappointed when i cut it open - it isn't raw enough as i've ordered medium rare, it's more like a medium. i love the birds nest like sheddered potato too. the beef and duck liver are so strong that i don't think the sauce is needed, it tastes good enough.then the cheese plate with blue cheese and 3 other kinds, sorry i couldn't remember them all, but the most amazing was the black truffle honey on the side, just a very little truffle on smooth honey. great to have it alone or to dip with a little cheese.basil sherbet, i don't quite like it. it's suppose to clear and reset your tastebuds but i think it's too exciting.then the dessert. i was so full that don't think can fit in the tiramisu, although it really sounds good. too bad.  i just end the meal with a red tea.overall i would say the tasting menu included most of the popular item and they're on a very high standard! staff are attending and food came at a very reasonable time interval, to leave you some room to talk and enjoy in between.we still love this place and is coming again for sure.…Read More

everytime it's on the Restaurant Week and everytime it's so fully booked! i finally have my chance this time.booked at 7pm Sunday and we're the first lot of customers. the place isn't big and was quite dim, open kitchen with balcony but too cold to stay outdoor.it's $418 fixed price per person as of the Restaurant Week campaign, all 3 courses could be choose from a selection of 3 each.appentizer i chose was the Yellowfin Tuna with Watermelon, quail egg on top. it appeared like Yukkea but both tuna and watermelon were dice, and they look so alike by colour! so each bite i got both the tuna and the watermelon, it gives a mixture of both texture. but i think there's too much soy sauce added so it's quite salty.the main course was French Whiting Fish. very tender fish and juicy, and i like the excitement of the jalepano that hid underneath! the tiny fried bacon enhanced the taste too much btw, and again it's a bit too salty.dessert is pavlova, that's my favourite. it's with strawberries on top and passionfruit sauce around. it's quite sweet and full due to the huge cream that came with, so i think there should be more berries to balance off.overall the 3 courses were satisfactory just a bit too salty. great deal with such price. just the table that we sat was quite close to the next so not too comfy.…Read More

exciting ideas
MIC Kitchen
2015-03-11
it's not very easy to locate, hidden in a corner of the commercial buildling.i booked at 12:30 and was quite full already, think it'd be really hard to get a seat if no reservation is made.there're sets, price starts at $198, and you can pay for an upper class choice by the surcharge it marks on the menu. it's far cheaper than before, i recall that it's like around $350 per person months ago. it's actually a very good deal for molecular cuisine.my appentizer was deep fried squid balls with organic tomatoes with lime mayo. the tomatoes are very fresh and juicy, but the balls aren't too outstanding.the main was "Cheung Fun", i spent quite a while to think what it's - so it's Spring Roll. it's pan fried spring roll with black truffle, the truffle not only as toppping, but instead it's also stuffed in. but too much but the taste is good enough. the sweet potato paste draws a purple circle on the plate which looks so nice too. very delighting colours! so the black truffle plus the sweet potato give a different complex taste.finally the dessert was tofu foam, i think it's more like foam than the one we usually have. with a strong taste of ginger and little rasberry topping, it makes a difference! yum!all food that i chose didn't require a surcharge so it's $198+10%, with 3 courses, bread basket and exciting ideas, i think it worths.…Read More

Hey Hey Kitchen
2015-02-26
saw it on the magazine that the abolone and hot spicy fish looked good so was gonna try.two of us ordered the hot spicy fish and a vege. we didn't try the abalone this time since the min order was 4 pcs.the fish came not as big portion as we expected. it looked very red and hot. No, it's not. i think it could be hotter comparing with the other sichun restaurant that i had before. the fish was tender but lots of bones. cause the hot spicy fish that i usually have in the sichun restaurants is boneless. so we ate it very carefully. some fungus and fried tofu with it. the tofu got so much soup and was hot and exciting.it's not a big shop and the staffs and chef were quite casual. it's good for small families in sai wan.…Read More
