Quick bite before movie
Passion (太古城中心)
2019-08-01
We were catching ToyStory4 at the cinema upstairs, and wanted to get a quick bite. We saw the deli food, and stopped by for a quick bite.I ordered the large cold salad, which gives me 4 choices. Good vegetarian options. Especially like the beetroot salad. My friend ordered the quiche and it took a while for the staff to reheat, and it was pretty busy.Staff could be friendly, they were definitely under staff, people were waiting for a while. One cashier with one other staff to serve and prepare the food. The air con was pretty cold, shared large tables on stools with some side tables. Right next to the escalators and it was a quick place to eat. I would come back again. …Read More

Hidden treasure, down to earth Indian food
Aladin Mess
2019-08-01
I have lived in this area for more than 3 years, and have never tried this restaurant. Being a huge indian food fan, I have always been going over the harbour to dine at TST indian restaurant. I have to say I was somewhat skeptical of other restaurants outside of TST. Recently my favourite Sangeeta indian restaurant food quality has gone down, and I have been looking for a new cheap no frill restaurant to dine. After a nice Sunday by the beach, we stumbled upon this restaurant when our bus unexpectedly stopped at CWB rather than Wan chai. I thought I'd give this a try, seeing many good reviews of this place. It is located on 2nd floor (all stairs, good to have exercise to eat tasty food). An average looking restaurant, with a mix of tourist and locals. Located at the heart of CWB, this place is not hard to find. Literally a stone throw away from Timesquare and Apple store. We ordered Dal Makhani, Butter chicken, veg biryani, and palak paneer with spicy poppadoms as well as 2 lime soda and a mango lassi. The food was relative quick, tasty and hassle free. The restaurants on a Sunday night was 60% full but it wasn't noisy. The food was good, they don't use MSG, and I did not have any after taste or weird sensation after the food. I would say, the palak paneer was nice. Veg biryani was a bit wetter than expected. All of our food came to around $400. We ordered quite a lot, we had take away for 1/3 of the food afterwards! Price was reasonable. I would recommend it.…Read More

Awesome indian vegetarian restaurant!
VEDA Café & Bar
2019-08-01
This place always get booked out during lunch time, and finally waiting for a few weeks, I secured a place to eat here. The restaurant is downstairs from the lobby of a hotel. So you must be ok to go down stairs (disabled and elderly, beware) I would say they only have around 20 table seats, and half a dozen bar seats. So it is truly tiny. But what it lacks in seats makes up in food! I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty food. I particularly like the corn Khichdi. The service is a bit slow, but the food is tasty and good portion size. Lunch set is good value and I can't wait to go back again!…Read More

Never bored: plant based kitchen w/ changing menu
Confusion Plant based Kitchen
2019-08-01
A tiny kitchen located in Sheung wan. What I love about this place besides the fact that it is plant based, vegan and with delicious food. It is the fact that they change their menu. There are always specials, dishes can be indian, malaysian, japanese, chinese, mexican... so pretty international. So I won't get bored. Most people complain about getting bored with a menu. I don't have this problem here. My favourite is the Mushroom tacos, tofu steak, mushroom wrap, daily soup and the kombucha from canada. Dishes to stay away - laksa (if you have tasted real laksa and a foodie like me, this just doesn't have the same taste)The place is a self serving place. You go pick up your own cultery, napkins at the counter, you can sit and share tables (the place is tiny) and the staff are generally pretty friendly. The crowd tends to be yoga, mindfulness and chill type of people. So it has good vibes. A mix of locals and expats. They accept major credit cards, but always have problems with amex cards. Be warned. Some have complained about the bossy female boss yelling around the restaurants and her staff, which probably does seems a bit rude. That would be the only negative I have about the place. Other than that, I'd recommend everyone to come support more plant based restaurant such as this!…Read More

MANA! Fast Slow Food
2019-08-01
A place that is having a positive footprint for the planet, a central location where finding plant based food is easy, fast service (average is around 5-10mins) where food is fresh, good taste and has proper recycling and composting options, this is probably if not the only one, one of the few that does it. I'm most appreciative of its mission on providing good food for your body and mind. For those of you just care about air con, cheapest food, and tastiest even if it means processed and MSG filled food. You won't see my review as relevant, nor will you get why people love this place. If you are curious to see why others love it, read on.If people know how much rent cost in Hong Kong, and considering the food at mana is fresh, without additives or nasty ingredients, this place is of good value. For someone who has been a vegetarian for over 20 years and has struggled to find healthy tasty vegetarian food,  the journey has not been easy. 5 years ago I have eaten here, and 5 years later I'm still eating here. Because of its convenience, healthy food with good variety and causal settings with great vision.Sure it doesn't have air-con, I don't always stay too long or choose other places with air-con when it is really hot. Sure sometimes it does get busy, but I can always come a bit earlier or later to get my food. Sometimes I have a tighter budget, so I get the half wrap instead of the full wrap. For me I eat for my health, and am responsible for my actions and aware of the consequences of my choices, so a little inconvenience isn't much of a big deal. When I know that, my careless action of buying plastic bottles,  waste not being recyclable, and eating food that harms the planet, I would feel ashamed of myself when I look back, when the planet goes haywire with rising temperature and rubbish-filled oceans and food without nutrients and I would regret not voting with my purchase, not making a stand for what I believe in, and suffer in pain for the actions I have not made. So knowing this, I stand by my choices, do the hard thing now, to clear my conscience for doing my best to protect the city, and our one and only planet. Nothing is ever perfect, not this restaurant or in life, I will still recommend this to anyone and everyone who believes in their action can make a change. Support for restaurants that fight for positive change, this is one of them.Thank you …Read More
