Great place and service
Nebraska Member of Louis Steak House
2024-07-16
I’ve walked by Nebraska many times and am so glad I finally decided to check the restaurant out. I was here to celebrate my aunt’s birthday. We got a great spot and the atmosphere was perfect for chatting. The service was also lovely. The food was super tasty and exceeded our expectations. I was so glad I ordered the French onion soup — it was a great start to a cozy meal. My lamb chops were absolutely delicious — not too fatty. The Brussels sprouts stir-fried in butter was also so tasty. I wish I ordered a second portion! I kind of wish the side dishes would be a teensy bit cheaper though. For dessert we had the apple pie à la mode. It was the perfect ending to our dinner.I’ll definitely return in the future with friends and family. There are still a number of things I’d like to try!…Read More

Poor customer service — go elsewhere
2 Cafe (Excelsior Plaza)
2023-11-12
I’ve been here since they opened their restaurant, and each time I come here, there is a noticeable drop in the quality of customer service. This is likely the last time I will come here for food again. I wasn’t even here during peak or rush hour.As a solo diner, I definitely felt a different kind of treatment from the waiters and waitresses. It was as if they didn’t want to even bother serving you and deliberately picked spots that do the “least damage” to business. It’s not obvious, but you can definitely sense it in their attitude. It’s as if they dread having to serve a solo diner because they want to serve more customers per table for money instead. There was something I wasn’t sure about regarding the menu, so I asked a waitress for clarification. She was super friendly and even sat in the seat opposite me. After her explanation, I was about to think for a few seconds to make my decision about what to order, but then she literally stood and whizzed to another table to take their order. I was a bit shocked as it was so obvious I was about to place my order. She never came back to take my order.I waved to another waitress after an awkward while of waiting. The second waitress came somewhat reluctantly. I placed my order of the dish I wanted and was expecting her to repeat the order and double check with me as a lot of waiters and waitresses do normally. I was also about to order a drink to go along. But she just walked away without any interaction with me after I placed the food order. I was left hanging as to whether my order was placed, AND I hadn’t ordered my drink yet either. Again, another awkward wait and again, the waitress never returned. Finally, I waved to the third waitress and explained I hadn’t finished placing my order and wasn’t sure if the order had been placed either. She took my order once again, this time the complete one, and at last I was able to sit and wait for my food. The food and drink arrived, and the quality was so so. The rice noodles were a bit soggy and mushy and it wasn’t because of the sauce. You could tell the rice noodles were soaking wet when they were dumped into a pan of oil to be panfried. So basically it was oil and water in the rice noodles. Given the quality of customer service here, I would never consider coming back again. There are just so many places nearby that serve better food AND have much better customer service. Don’t bother coming here.…Read More

Mediocremeal with mouse
Congteakafe

The food was alright, nothing too special. I ordered a beef rice which was mediocre. Honestly I think fast-food restaurants do an even better job.At one point, we even saw a mouse running around. It ran along the wall and went behind the TV which was hanging near the toilet. It was shocking! The iced milk tea was tasty so that was a relief! Overall the price was not worth the experience, so I was actually quite disappointed.I have been to the other branch in Western District and must say the service there is much much better than the branch here in Sheung Wan. The cashier didn’t even bother to say anything when we paid and left the restaurant, which I think was not very polite.…Read More

Good food but an unlocked staff toilet
Lobster Central
2018-11-04
My friend and I had mixed feelings about this place, but one thing for sure, we won’t be returning anytime soon after the experience. The food was pretty good. We ordered potato and sweet potato fries, plus their recommended lobster roll and lobster/beef burger. It was my first time trying a lobster roll and it was truly delicious! The service was so-so. This is also the main reason why I will not consider going back again unless I had desperate cravings. We booked on app and showed our booking code upon our arrival. The young server was quite nice about it. She explained to us the terms and conditions nicely. Then when we placed our orders, it was another server, probably the supervisor, who took the order from my friend. For some reason, this server hadn’t known we booked on app, so I had to go and show her the code again. Her attitude was definitely not the best. She looked at us as if we were going to trick her or something. She proceeded to re-explain the terms and conditions of the booking in a very rushed manner. To be honest, she was truly defensive and impatient while doing it, albeit trying to be semi-polite. It felt to me that the server was truly having some trust issues. If I were in her shoes, I would simply have asked the customers if they were already clear about the terms and conditions, instead of being clearly unwilling to explain again. Then when my friend and I had finished, my friend went to the toilet. I’ll be honest — even though I read the “staff only” sign, it was one of those rare moments where it didn’t register to me what it meant. I had had such a good time with my friend catching up that my brain was not functioning properly. The door was not locked either, so when my friend went in, it didn’t occur to me that we weren’t supposed to use it.My friend came out and I told her I needed to go too. Then I went in the toilet, locked the door, only to be immediately welcomed with rude, loud pounding on the door AND rough tugging on the door as if there was an emergency.I didn’t use the toilet and opened the door to see what the matter was. The same server had come to tell me VERY brashly and insistently that this was a “staff only” toilet. Without using the toilet, my friend and I then left. I’m not trying to say that from the server’s perspective, we did nothing wrong. However, it really was an unintentional action on our part. My friend and I were definitely not meaning to cause any trouble. We were not rude at all, from beginning of the meal to the end of the meal.I honestly think that the way we were treated by this female server was rather uncalled for. She could have politely knocked on the door or when I came out, tell me politely that this is a staff toilet, instead of being all huffy, puffy and defensive. Some may think that perhaps 50% discount booking via app may be a reason for the under-the-par service. But I have booked other restaurants using the app before and the experience was simply fabulous. So, even with tasty food, this place is definitely permanently off my list because of the attitude of the staff. There are just so many other great eateries and restaurants nearby to check out too! …Read More

Not the best experience...
Café Life Patisserie & Cafe (太興中心)
2018-08-02
To be honest, I was quite disappointed. For a total of $80, I expected something more. I had some high hopes for this place, given the ambience of the place, as well as the attractive array of cakes on display. The chocolate cake I ordered was delicious. It wasn’t spectacular, but as I had not had chocolate cake for a long time, I rather liked it. On the other hand, the soy latte I ordered was too sour for my taste. It didn’t look appetising either. It reminded me of scum. This was definitely not a good cup of coffee, both in terms of taste and looks. Perhaps it was an off-day for the place, but considering how there are many other great coffee shops just around the corner, this was not my most pleasant experience at a coffee shop in the area. …Read More

A Taste of Childhood
Ma Sa Restaurant
2018-07-04
I’ve been eating breakfast here regularly for the past few years. Yes, there are days when the service is not good and the food is a bit disappointing, but in general, I’d say this place is a good place to eat.For first-timers, you may be shocked by the seemingly rude attitudes of some of the staff, but it is definitely something you shouldn’t take personally. I was shocked, even a bit unhappy when I first tried the place out for breakfast, but Ma Sa Restaurant really grew on me.Today I finally had the chance to try their lunches! The place was super crowded, and I had to line up, but it was well worth it. The wait wasn’t long, not even five minutes.I ordered a beef and choi sum with less rice. I was very delighted when my lunch arrived. Lots of greens and chopped into pieces that I could easily chew and bite. Some people may think there’s not enough meat and too much vegetables, but it was definitely the perfect portion for me.Taste-wise, my rice was great. Not too salty nor too bland. It reminded me of what I used to eat when I was a child. For drinks, I always order milk tea or coffee. Iced or hot, I’ve tried them all. It’s always never disappointing. I especially love their milk tea a lot! …Read More

Reliable and Friendly
Ngan Lung Restaurant
2018-01-31
I’ve been to this restaurant so many times I’ve lost count already, and every time the food and service are very good. Whether breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner or late-night snack, this branch of Ngan Lung has quality service. This time I ordered an egg and corned beef sandwich plus a milk tea with condensed milk, both of which were very yummy. However, the thing I really want to talk about is that the staff in this Ngan Lung branch have a good work ethic and are very helpful to their customers. For instance, for my particular order this time, they had forgotten to put condensed milk in my tea. I told the waiter, who then took my tea to the kitchen to add back some condensed milk, and told me to let him know again if it was not alright, as it is possible the kitchen staff might have forgotten.A simple comment like that truly made me feel valued as a customer at this restaurant, and this is why I always like to go to this place. There have been other occasions where I noticed the quality of service of this place. On one occasion, there was a table of Indonesian customers who obviously did not know how to order from the menu. The waiter took his patience in helping them, as well as recommending dishes for them. On another occasion, when I was about to enter the restaurant, one of the waiters opened the door to welcome me inside — something that I did not expect from a typical Hong Kong “cha chaan teng”. It was very nice!I have also tried their cream corn fried fish rice, satay beef instant noodles and baked spaghetti with smoked duck’s breast. Must say their satay beef is really delicious and lives up to the “recommended” sign on the menu! So, if you are looking for a decent Hong Kong-style restaurant for a quick delicious bite, this particular Ngan Lung branch is definitely worth visiting. …Read More

Good food portions and service
Seoul House
2017-07-18
I had known about Seoul House for a while, and I'm really glad I finally had the chance to eat at this place. We arrived at noon and there was literally no one except the working staff. They were in the midst of their meal, but when they saw us, some of them immediately came to our service and showed us to our seats. This was truly professional, and left a good first impression. The food - we ordered one set lunch of grilled beef ribs and one a la carte item of marinated fried chicken that came with a salad. Both dishes were really tasty.I thought the marinated fried chicken had a bit too much sauce, but it was delicious still. It kind of reminded me of the Chinese sweet and sour chicken/fish dish more than a Korean dish. So to be honest, I was a teensy bit disappointed. For drinks, we had a rice tea drink and their iced Korean Mix Coffee. Personally, the canned drink was too sweet, but nevertheless a nice drink to try. My iced coffee was totally yummy! The portions of the meals were just right, although I did get a takeaway box for the leftover fried chicken.Staff were highly approachable and extremely helpful. My dad dropped his chopsticks by accident and immediately one of the staff came over with a clean pair for him, which was very thoughtful. One thing about the bathroom - I would appreciate a trash bin with a lid that didn't require us to open by hand. After all, this would defeat the purpose of cleaning our hands in the bathroom! Overall, this was a pleasant place for lunch. I might come again in the future to try their BBQ meats! …Read More

Made the decision to head to this bubble tea place even though it was kind of out of my way. It was totally worth it!I ordered their golden bubble milk tea with 30% sweet and no ice. The milk tea was delicious. The pearls were of a lovely size and perfect chewiness! The slight downside was that they were too sweet. I didn't finish all the pearls because they were too sweet, but I made sure to finish the milk tea. It was a nice change from the usual bubble tea shops I go to. …Read More

Mediocre Meal
Ganguya
2016-12-28
Having always wanted to check this place out, I was quite excited initially when I finally entered the place for a meal with my friend. What can I say? The service was mediocre. The staff were borderline friendly and the menu was difficult to read. I understand the dim lighting is a feature, but if that is indeed the case, the menu should be more reader-friendly. I told a male staff that there were two of us and he asked us whether we had booking. I said no and he immediately put us to the very edge of the place at the corner. It was pretty obvious we got the worst seats. As the place is quite small, I would understand if the place has already quite many bookings and we cannot get better seats. However, friendlier staff would have made the situation better and more comfortable for my friend and I. Food was acceptable. But for the prices on the menu, I could easily cross over to the Japanese skewer restaurant directly opposite for same, if not better quality food. However, to be fair, my friend and I both agreed the grilled ox-tongue was quite delicious. This place was unlike any other izakayas I had been to - most izakayas had friendly staff, if not polite staff that genuinely made their customers comfortable. The chefs were friendly. The waiters and waitresses were not. I suppose making a reservation in advance might have been better?Anyway, since I have finally tried this place, I should probably check out other places instead. …Read More

A Quick Delight
Brew Bros Coffee (禧利街)

The place was actually a bit packed, but the staff were very nice and found me a spot. This is my second time at this place. The last time I came (which was a long time ago), I tried their almond croissant and coffee. I remembered that the croissant was a bit dry and did not think highly of it, but I know this place serves some good coffee, hence I decided to come again. For my lunch, I ordered a salmon and cream cheese bagel. The portion was quite big -- the bagel was packed with cream cheese, capers, red onion slices and salmon. It also came with a side of salad. I also got an iced latte. It was a great delight! It was a cold drink, but the amount of ice was perfect. So much so that when I got to the bottom of my drink, the coffee was still rich in flavour and not much ice was left. This is definitely a great place to chill. Even though the place is small, it has a very down-to-earth, homey vibe. I will definitely come back sometime. …Read More

I've passed this place a number of times and it has always been pretty packed for lunch. This morning I decided to give it a try. I was attracted by the fact they had cheese omelette as one of their breakfast options, so I planned to order that for my breakfast. Here's where the disappointing part comes in. I asked what their "dirty" latte was, the staff explained to me what it was... then told me the coffee machine had broken down, so there was no coffee available. A coffee place, with no coffee? At that point I was really tempted to leave, because I did want my coffee. However, I wanted to try the cheese omelette, so I asked for rooibos tea. The staff told me for the rooibos tea, they only had one flavour left as they had run out of stock for other rooibos teas. By this time, my mind was pretty numb.Rooibos tea, but only one flavour left because they had no more stock? I would feel better if they just said OK and didn't tell me they only had one flavour left:My cheese omelette arrived. It looked good, but it was not anything spectacular, and it even had bits of egg shell. The tea was OK(The environment was definitely nice with the happy colours and decorations. However, the fact that two air conditioners was on full blast when I was the only customer at the time seemed a waste of energy:There was a small fan, which was also turned on. It really wasn't necessary. Turning down the air-conditioning would have definitely made the place more quiet:There are many other better-quality coffee shops to choose from in Sheung Wan, so I would check those out in the future. …Read More

This is my second time to this coffee shop. Delighted to say that I really enjoyed both times at this coffee shop! I ordered a red cup Hazelnut Latte for $37. It was a winner for me - not too sweet, yet there was still a strong hint of hazelnut flavour. The shop is really small, but the environment is chill and pleasant. The staff were friendly. The background music is nice, and I definitely would have stayed longer if I wasn't in a hurry. Seriously planning to come back in the future! …Read More

It was in the late afternoon that I went for tea. There were a lot of items to choose from, ranging from snacks to noodles and rice at reasonable prices.I was feeling peckish, so I ordered a tea set that consisted of some fried items and a small oysters noodle (a popular Taiwanese snack). The set also included a drink, and I chose the standard bubble tea.The first thing that came was my drink. I had told the waiter to give me less ice, which he was fine with, but I was super surprised that the drink was actually a frothy one with no ice chunks in it at all. Even better! As a fussy person who is very particular about her drinks, I originally also wanted to tell the waiter to have my drink made less sweet, but I didn't do so in the end as I didn't want to appear too troublesome. So you can imagine how delighted I was when the syrup was served separately. I could decide how sweet I wanted my drink to be! This the first time I have been served a Taiwanese cold drink where I could control the sweetness myself, so I was really very impressed. A small detail like this had already won me over. What came next was my small oysters noodle. It was simply delicious. The only thing I'd say is that more treatment could have been done with the oysters to remove that raw taste they had in them. Perhaps some more pepper or seasoning would do? Anyway, I tried to compensate by piercing each piece and letting the oysters sit in the bottom of the soup to soak in some of the salty goodness. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the noodles. Last came the fried stuff, which included cuttlefish balls, tofu and chicken. The batter was a bit too thick in general and there was a bit too much seasoning, but I was pleased with what I had had so far, so these little imperfections didn't really bother me. The only thing I would say about the fried food is that I wish it was served at the same time as my noodles. I would have loved to have a bit of the fried goodness, then a gulp of the soup, and so on. It's my first time here at this restaurant, and I already anticipate coming here again in the future with some good friends! …Read More

I came back here after a while because I am completely in love with their banoffee pie! It tasted just as I remembered, if not better, as I had the whole slice to myself. Besides the pie, I tried their Chai latte. The spices are really fragrant and I kind of wished they had larger cups of the drink. It's not overly powerful nor sweet. The downside of my visit was the smell. There is a smoking area outside the cafe and I was sitting at the table nearer to the exit, so during the whole time of my visit, there was always a lingering smell of cigarette smoke, mixed with the smell of coffee beans... It was a bit of a turn-off for me and had me wondering if I would come again... I would have changed seats if possible, but the cafe was crowded (which is a good sign, of course)!…Read More
