Not authentic Indian food
Khyber Pass Mess Club
2018-07-20
I saw the rave reviews on OpenRice and thinking it was popular for a good reason, I decided to try it out. I was dubious when I entered the place as it was small and the seating was similar to a school canteen. We very quickly ordered and found the food to be just curry and chilli powder. No herb or spice taste that I have experienced with other Indian restaurants. The lime soda was watered down soda with sugar. Disappointing meal overall but if you’re not into the real deal then it’s fine as the staff are local Chinese and the place seemed popular with local Hong kongers. After we left, surprisingly there was a long queue waiting outside.…Read More

or#tm68830207 Hi, Im the new owner and just read this comment, you mentioned that the food is only curry and chilli powder, but now I've changed the style of it. We now also put herb and real spices. The last owner said that he thought the locals wouldn't like herbs in their food so they didn't put it. Come again and try eating the new style, we now also serve Roasted chicken and lamb rack.

Better than expected
Taj Mahal Club

We went to Chungking mansion as we wanted some authentic Indian food and randomly picked this restaurant. The restaurant was small and since it has just opened for business it had a really weird smell from the a/c. We ordered the tandoori mixed grill, chicken masala and lamb briyani rice with garlic naan bread. All of which were good and tasty, in the mixed grill the chicken was juicy but fish was over cooked. The prices was reasonable and for everything including the drinks it only cost us $368. Only thing was they gave us poppodams which we didn’t as for but apparently they charged us $20 for it. I guess it’s like if you go to yum chai and you automatically get the peanuts and tea but still have to pay for it. Overall it was a pleasant meal. …Read More

Not my favourite Indian restaurant anymore
Tulsi Indian Restaurant (Tsat Tsz Mui Road)
2018-03-27
This used to be my favourite Indian restaurant and coming from the Uk , I’m a fan of Indian cuisine. However we went last year and used a Groupon coupon thinking it would be a bargain but only found the portion of the food had minimise a lot. The food seem tasteless and despite the Groupon offer the place was only half full. This year I wanted to try it agin and to see if any improvements had been made. Well, the inside decor had slightly been upgraded and look nicer, the staff as always were polite and attentive. We went on a Saturday night and the place only had 3-4 tables occupied which made me worried again. And again the food was tasteless and bland. My favourite dish of all, the Briyani rice didn’t have the herb taste and was just a lot of oil, the masala wasn’t spicy and seemed watered down and the naan bread was so oily that it flopped on my plate. Not to mention the dishes again were very small. It breaks my heart but this will no longer be restaurant that I can rely on. My only hope is that they get a better chef and then maybe I’ll be back.…Read More

Good service, the food was better than expected. I wanted to try the shepherd pie and as i expected very yummy, not the traditional type but still very good. The price was high but since we went on a Monday, we got a main course under the buy one get one free. The choice of desserts were limited so I tried the tiramisu with a twist, not special but was good enough! Spent $1,000 for 2 persons …Read More

Anniversary Dinner
Jimmy's Kitchen
2015-05-26
me and my boyfriend went there to celebrate our anniversary. Since I'm from the UK, this seem a good choice. However, it was a dissappointing experience.I ordered the steak and kidney pie and my bf ordered lamb masala dry and since mine needed 30mins, we ordered onion soup to keep us busy. The onion soup was very tasty and the right amount of cheese.  Then my pie came and sad to say it wasn't a pice, it was a puff pastry in a soup bowl. The ones you get if you order puff pastry soup from pizza hut!:(It also didn't come with chip which is odd as most british dishes have either mashed potatoes, chips or roast potatoes. I found i had to order a side of fries but it took forever and by the time it came, i made them re-heat my so called pie.My Bf dish came and the lamb was soft and juicy but the plate of condiments was awful. There was a spice sauce that tasted horrible and I couldn't try anything else on the plate. Finally, we had enough and was waiting for the bill but all this time no one came to clean out table. We have over 5 plates of eaten food stacked up.Overall, it was a rip off as it cost $950 and the service was ok but very slow. They had about 7-8 tables of customers but didn't seem to be able to accomodate. How dissappointing considering it's suggest authentic british food. Unfortunately that is not the case and will not be going back.…Read More

EdChan3103 Jimmy's kitchen is a * that serves Hong Kong style British food(豉油西餐). Nobody expect them to serve "authentic" British food.

After Dinner

Went after we  had a dinner since we were both still pretty hungry, wanted to try somewhere Japanese with drinks and some grilled stuff.Turned out to be very expensive! Everything on the meun was for the price of one skewer so $35- $100 is per piece, some things were not on the menu and didn't realise until later what we were paying for. The staff was very persuasive and even though I insisted on ordering the 300ml sake, they kept telling me that the 700ml sake was of better value etc - 300ml was $240 and the 700ml was $680! We ordered the 700ml is the end to stop her from pestering us! We ordered chicken wings, Ox tongue which were tasty. Then a fish that they said was very rare and could only be ordered at this time of year, it was very plain and very small. Then we ordered a selection of grilled kidney, duck tongue, beef cubes all very plain and was just average in taste and texture. Could have pass off for a fast food joint. In the end, they gave us ice cream for free....but not without saying they will add a scoop of sorbet but i told them i hate sorbet but they continue to insist that it's refreshing and taste good....blah blah blah. They just don't listen! Our bill for 2 person was $1700!! Damn right rip off!  Only go there if you have alot of money to waste!…Read More

Good Authentic Food but for Vegetarians
Sangeetha Vegetarian Restaurant
2014-12-18
After being to Bangladesh, I fell in love with anything to do with Dosa and after investigating found that this restaurant has a variety of Dosa.To start with, the place looks like a fast food joint with the basic chairs and table. Nonetheless, they were very welcoming. We asked them for recommendation and noticed that everything on the menu was vegetarian. Anyway, we ordered Masala Dosa and Roti something and some naam bread.Even though everything was under $100, our bill ended up to be $5XX for 4 persons. There was no meat but just alot of bread and dough that kept us full. The dosa was not made to the high standard that I expected although the presentation of it was really impressive. We did feel abit ripped off as we noticed that our version of the dosa was a stale version when compared the the table next to us whose dosa was not only bigger but also crispier.....a indian family sat next to us.Must be quite authentic since 90% of the place was filled with Indians.…Read More

Surprisingly good
Weinstube

Recommended by a friend to try this place out. The restaurant is very small and at a glance only has 7 dinning tables and a small bar. We booked dinner at 7pm on a Sunday and found that we were the first customers. Anyhow, we were told by our friend that we had to order the Pig's knuckle and Roasted Spring Chicken. We added 2 beers aswell at around $36 and $42.On the menu it says the Chicken takes 50 mins which seems scary but after asking the waitress, she says if it's not busy then takes around 15-20 mins. Thankfully we didn't have to wait long since were the only ones there. Around 7.30pm, the place started to fill and was packed in no time. The Pig's Knuckle was crispy and had a good flavour. Not too salty and they got rid of the bad pork taste that some places seem to fail at. :)The Chicken was the highlight, very juicy and tendor. Had to be careful when cutting it as it was pouring out with juice.Overall it was a good meal. Can be noisy at times since the tables are close to each other and the bill came to $535 for two persons.:)…Read More

Food was ok with good service!
Luca

No waiting time for a busy Saturday night:)We started with a Caesar Salad for $158!! Alot of money for a few bits of vegetables. Then we ordered the Pig's Knuckle which was huge! It had potatoe mash underneath which made it even more filling. The overall taste was good but alot for one person to eat.By this time, we were so full...........but we still had the Pizza to come which was ok and crispy. Overall the food was nothing special but if you're not too fussy then it's ok to go as the service was good with attentive waiters who came to change your plates and add water to your glass frequently. Very polite and warming atmosphere. However, slightly expensive as approx $800 for 2 persons for only 3 dishes and 2 drinks.…Read More

Good but not cheap
Wooloomooloo Steakhouse
2014-10-09
The atmosphere was nice and romantic and had a good view although the table next to us was noisy. We ordered our food and the first they bring you regardless is a huge bread bun.The we had oour steak tartar which was the first time i have ever had raw beef before and must admit was ok tasty, there was alot of herbs and chilli to hide the fact that you were infact eating raw beef. Then we had our main, I ordered the beef wellington and my friend ordered the prime steak. Mine was over cooked but very filling. The pastry was nice and well cooked. The steak was very tasty and cooked just right! To finish off our meal, we tried the Napolean dessert. It was good and done prefectly. We found that not all the staff could speak english since quite that there were so many caucasion ther but overall a good place to go if you can afford it!…Read More

Huge Dissappointment
Espuma (H8)
2014-10-06
Having seen the rave reviews i thought it would at least be half of what I expected. We ordered the famous omelette which was tasteless so we only have 2 bites. Then we had the paella which was ok, at least it had some taste but the king prawns was again like eating chewy paper. The fish and bites was crispy and i guess edible since you really can't go wrong with this dish even a prize idiot could do this. Although it did have a bitter taste near the end. To finish off, we heard that the dessert could possibly save the day, so we opted for a Earl Grey Creme Brulee. Not surprisingly it was badly mixture of washed out tea leaves and egg. We paid about $350 for two and left still FULL with dissappointment. Feel sorry for the people who actually cued up for this place!…Read More
