I was kind of excited to see that there was an a line outside this place, which was usually super crowded, and I really wanted to try this Ramen that a lot of people have praised. The comments have been quite adverse, some people really loved it for how oily it was, and some people hated it. I personally thought it was pretty mediocre, and that the fat was not really Something that’s necessary for this bowl of Ramen.On the bright side, the egg and the char siu was quite good. I really am not a fan of adding raw onions to any kind of Ramen broth, but perhaps if they didn’t, I might not have been able to finish the noodles. The noodles themselves are quite springy and on the thicker side, not the kind of Kyushu Ramen I like. Absolutely secluded, so hidden away that I almost had to look for 10 minutes within the same area, but boy it was so different from the dead-looking mall downstairs. The entrance to Black Cafe is almost like a sci-fi movie, the unending "black" cool signage I liked in particular.Meanwhile the space is huge inside and the tables perfect for 2. First there was the herb pan-fried sausages which were great, the herb was not too forced and the sausage was generous. Then our drinks came, a good cranberry soda without any cough syrupy feel and a nice thirst-quenching orange soda. Our mala noodles was mixed in a very fragrant chilli oil which I liked a lot, the yolk was just perfect after being poked through, drizzling into the noodles. The meat was also quite generous here.The oyster claypot rice was more special and not something you see every day, the oysters were not too small and tasted quite fresh. Ramen shop since 1987 in Yau Ma Tei! I’ve heard of this gimmick a thousand times but I didn’t come here until I was famished after watching a 3 hour movie Needless to say it was not especially “WOW” but it’s reasonably under $90 per bowl and has a very good eggBut the soup itself for my Kyushu ramen was too watery, the #魚介 Gyokai Tonkotsu ramen soup was much better. Causeway Bay Hearty Dinner choices are not easy to find that don’t break the bank. Famished after a haircut and came to 金萊 for dinner, after a few hours in a chair I wanted something warm and filling for dinner. Siu mei rice was quite good, charsiu a bit soft and the roast goose quite generous too. There was wayyy too much rice for me. The goo skin was a bit crispy and there was quite a lot of fat underneath but that’s what made it super aromatic. Then we also ordered a 臘味 dried food dish, the chinese sausage and liver sausage were soooo good. Such a guilty pleasure though as I know it’s probably bad for my heart. The liver sausage itself was very tasty, and I really enjoyed how it went with my white rice. Lamb Pot Season Begins as weathers and temperatures dip…The fried beancurd, delicious water chestnuts, delightful lamb briskets… what’s not to love about a good lamb pot? 🤪 The one here at 金禾 has proven to be above par, with a $168 price tags you get a small pot to yourself, plus a bowl of white rice, some fermented tofu sauce, and a hot drink. Not exactly the most price conscious but it’s almost christmas right?Lamb is so-so, a lot of pieces were bones more than meat, but there were at least 10 pieces. I’m no stranger to Vietnamese and I absolutely love a good pho anyday. Today however I’ve decided to try the Vermicelli and the spring rolls as they looked sooo good (at the next table)! BF got the porkchop rice, topped with a beautiful egg which was panfried perfection. Then we shared 2 snacks between us, he also wanted wings and I wanted some prawn cakes. the portion was super generous, more than I expected. It was all fried really well, hot even after 15 minutes so obviously not fried ahead of time. Fancy some Padthai?Tai Hang has always been a place of many hidden gems, Ron Mak Mak is located in the heart of it and serves fancy pad thais that are both a feast to the eyes and my tummy. Gotta say they have superbbbb plating. The lobster sauce 🦐🦞 Pad thai ($119) came with some fresh prawns and nice crunchy peanuts. The texture is on the softer side but soaks up a lot of that lobster sauce and smells super aromatic. I liked the Garlic Butter Chicken Pad thai a bit more though ($112) and it was also piping hot when it arrived. Although it was a bit awkward at first since there was a huge chunk of raw patty in front of you, but after you get the hang of it it gets easier. Came here specifically to try this new ice cream incur a combination, which, at first glance, seems a little bit weird, but ended up tasting quite good.The combo comes with two pieces of sushi in beancurd skin, miso soup, and a strawberry soda. We ordered a extra spicy rendition of the curry, which turned out to be actually quite spicy, contrary to what we thought about Japanese curries.
