Exceptional full English breakfast
Feather & Bone
2022-01-09
The full English breakfast at Feather and Bone is a fair way past well done, on balance for what you get it’s exceptional. I’m seldom impressed by this dish and rarely order as it’s the lowest common denominator on a brunch menu, with ingredients out of a tin (baked beans) or the cheapest supermarket staples (wafer thin bacon overcooked to beyond death etc). This one has properly cooked sunny side up eggs on a good piece of thick cut grilled sourdough, super thick cut bacon (aka a small piece of pork chop), house made spicy baked beans, two large hash browns (ok probably out of a frozen pack but it worked), etc. At $178 its maybe on par or at most $20 over a standard full English but exceeds in almost every department in terms of quality and taste. It’d be too much effort to cook yourself this at home in this way which is one sign of a dish being good value for money. Keep up the good work. …Read More

Poor service and overly defensive
Yotsuba Cafe
2020-12-29
Never again after an extremely unpleasant, confusing encounter by a business with no sense of customer service. Waited 10 minutes for a table. When 2 seats became available the customer immediately adjacent questioned whether the appropriate amount of social distance was being kept if we were to be seated there. A fair question in these times. Picture a typically small HK restaurant with other patrons dining in at that time, so you do the math. The waitress explained that with the plastic barrier in place it was fine but the customer challenged that response. The waitress then made a “I tried” face and asked us quietly to wait outside again, (lest if we insisted to be seated there and then it would escalate the situation further I guess). If my companion had not to insisted to eat there I would have left immediately, already disgruntled at being treated as second rate. As it turned out we were given a table outside after another 10 minutes of waiting. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the waitress while being shown to the table but all she could do was to say a standard “sorry” a few times without listening to why I was complaining, which seemed to me like they have no real regard to the value of the time we’d wasted. No one came to me to offer any further explanation for our treatment but perplexingly my companion was apparently later told the customer who challenged them took photos of their table set up. I can only assume they were concerned they would get reported to the authorities or pick up negative feedback on socials. If the shop knows it was doing the right thing they should have stuck to their explanation and seated us the first time. If they were trying to be abundantly cautious despite having done the right thing with their table set up, then frankly they should reduce the number of patrons dining in. If they weren’t doing the right thing to begin with then they deserve to be penalized officially or on socials. Choosing to treat only some of your customers as second rate is no way to do business, period. I too am (or was) a customer with just as much right to service. If you are not willing to serve people, that’s your choice but give them the courtesy and respect to tell them outright and turn them away. You may not value my business. That’s also your choice. But you have NO right to waste my time. That is unacceptable. The waitress did offer beverages on the house afterwards. I was too far past annoyed by the ridiculous experience to take up that offer - too little much too late. My companion ate what looked to be standard cafe fare and we left.I cannot give accurate stars as I didn’t eat anything. My companion didn’t feel ill afterwards so it’s a pass on hygiene (3 stars). Taste, decor etc. is subjective and affected by the customer experience hence to me it’s worth no stars but whatever, 1 star for the rest. My companion paid so I don’t know the cost, $100 is just a guess. There is no chance I will return here and cannot recommend this place because of how it chooses to treat customers. Plenty of options nearby including another cafe literally next door. I can’t get my time back. Don’t give them an opportunity to waste yours. …Read More
