Note that we had a 50% discount using a certain popular app to reserve. We ordered three dishes:1. Gambos Al Ajillo (garlic prawns)2. Spaghetti Alle Vongole (Spaghetti with garlic and large clams)3. Seafood with inked paellaLong story short: all three dishes had seafood that was slightly undercooked. I appreciate they didnt want to overcook them. But that’s not an excuse.Food was blend except paella. Paella was basically some seafood on top of the inked paella. There was very little connection between the two. The best dish but hardly worth 144, let alone 288.The customer service was very good. They were attentive. But they made one big mistake. The table next to us order garlic bread, in the menu it was 48 for 4 pieces. When it came, I heard our neighbours discussing whether it was 3/4. They asked one server and she said she will check. She came back and said it was supposed to be 3 pieces. Then I couldnt help but chime in after server left. I told the couple that I am sure it was 4 as I was gonna order it too. So they called the server over again, trusted me and their own recollection of the menu and said the menu said 4 pieces. Then came the craziest response nobody expected, “We didnt have time to change the menu!” what the? The garlic bread was slightly burned as well, they got 3 pieces instead of 4... I have no idea what the server was thinking, but apparently the cost of a small piece of garlic bread was worth losing a customer. I have no words left. There is potential for this restaurant based on the other reviews but I know my mom and I and the other couple wont be coming back.…Read More

Solera Restaurant and Bar

My girlfriend and I came to Discovery Bay for a quiet afternoon for a short day trip. We decided to try this highly rated restaurant (on Openrice). Originally we just were just gonna get a few drinks and nachos at the Mexican restaurant but decided to come here for to share a paella. We looked at the menu and decided we would get a seafood paella for 258 HKD (outside menu) to share (I knew that most paellas in Hong Kong aren't big enough for two people, but we weren't too hungry). When we got inside, the restaurant wasn't busy. We were sat in a quiet area of the restaurant. When we got the menu, we discovered the price discreptancies between the outside menu and the menus we were given. The new price is 295. We decided that it was too much and we opted for the baby quid and mix veg paella for 240 instead (this item we later discovered is 218 on the outside menu). The female server (I wish I had gotten her name) asked us what we'd like. I guess she was expecting us to order tapas / appetizers, drinks and some mains. When we told her we wanted to share one paella, she said in Cantonese, “淨係叫一個飯啊?”, which translates to "you're ordering only 1 paella?". We were shocked, but calmly replied with a firm yes. She didn't look happy at all. She didn't really bother at that point. She did offer to give us two glasses of water, while she didn't say "you two probably won't order drinks, right?", but she may as well have. The paella itself was alright. But we were really not in the best mood after having dealt with her attitude. I made sure I asked someone else for the bill and another server (might be the manager) came. Paid, and swiftly left this place. I'm sure the food is decent but I know they didn't appreciate our custom. We checked the menu again when we were downstairs and took a picture of the menu again. I hope the restaurant didn't not update the menu outside because they forgot, not because they were trying to lure people in with the lower priced menu.…Read More

Solera Dear dreistreifen, on the day in question there was indeed a discrepancy between the table menu and the display menu. And yes, this was an oversight on our part. We apologise for the error which happened while we are having new menus printed.

Solera Regarding the quality of service you received, and some other customers who have also posted on OpenRice, from a particular individual (we only have one female Chinese waitress) who has since been dismissed based on customer feedback.

Friendly owners who helped me get my fan back!

Happened to be in SSP with mom after shopping for SIM cards. We wanted to find a new place we haven't been to before. Normally we'd go for pig liver and beef noodles (潤牛麵) over at Wai Kee on Fuk Wing Street. Searching on Openrice led us to this hidden gem at the food centre atop the Pei Ho Street Market Complex (home to almost 20 shops).Once we arrived, my mom was trying to find a table that felt the coolest as she cant stand the heat. The lady owner suggested a table and said it was the best table in the house in terms of temperature. She then came over to explain the menu and the difference between the afternoon tea noodles were merely smaller than the regular menu ones. She suggested that my mom have the smaller bowls. She also told us that each of the side dish menus can be ordered as separate items even though the prices were listed as plates with multiples of each. In the end, I ordered the special beef noodles (招牌湯河粉) and my mom ordered the afternoon tea vietnamese shrimp meat and sausage rice noodles in tomato broth (越式蝦膠扎肉番茄湯米粉). It is the first time I got a plate of fresh chilli's at a Viet restaurant without having to ask for it. My pho tasted good. I liked the soup. There was a fair amount of difference cuts of beef, beef balls, tripes, etc. The shop lacked hoi sin sauce but did have a sriracha style chili sauce. When I asked if they had hoi sin sauce and chilli sauce (sriracha style), the lady owner asked if I came back from Canada. She was a smart one. Turned out they used to own a cha chaan teng (Hong Kong style cafe) in Vancouver so they know what Viet restaurants in Canada are like. The tomato broth my mom had didn't have as much taste as she'd like. I thought it was decent. We then ordered a few spring rolls (good), shrimp cake (very good), pork chop (not our favourite) and chicken wings (good).  Lime soda was good, but not sure if it's good enough to justify 5 HKD when an upgrade to a iced lemon tea is only 2 HKD.While the lady owner suggested the best table in the house, we still found it hot and I took out my portable fan (芭蕉扇). At the end of the meal, I completely forgot to take it with me and this is even after the owners reminded us to take our belongings.I realized I had left the fan about two hours later. I phoned up the restaurant and lady owner told me that she remembered me and said the fan wasn't there and she said she may know who took it (one of her frequent customer's son).  She took my number down and said she would try ask her frequent customer to bring it back when she sees them.About a month later, I got a call from her saying she got my portable fan back. While the fan is easily replaceable and very cheap, my girlfriend bought it for me and I really didn't want to get a new one. If the owners are reading this, thank you very much once again! The day I picked up my fan, I had another meal. This time I ordered the curry beef brisket vietnamese rice noodles (越式咖喱牛腩湯檬). Like my first meal here, this was tasty as well. Loved the curry soup. Lady owner is very friendly and loves a good chat. She said just because I came to get my fan back doesn't mean I had to buy food from them. I was like "but I wanted to". I will definitely come back here. It may not be the most authentic or most Canadian-Viet-like pho in Hong Kong, but the food tastes great and it's a bargain compared to most of the other Viet restaurants in town. …Read More
