My go-to dim sum place in Central
House of Orient
2025-02-12
Convenient location and great for a quick stop-over brunch/lunch while shopping or doing business in Central.Delicate yet not expensive.Particularly like Their steamed beef & tangerine-peel rice, silky-chicken soup (big portion — got about half of a silky-chicken in it), and Bai-Ye Tofu (hundred-layered tofu).Dim sum collection are standard and decent.Good variety of tea ( my fav is the Ginseng Oolong).Multiple visits! And I also order delivery from here via online platform regularly. …Read More

Best Shandong dumplingsever 最正山東水餃
谷媽媽小店
2021-04-12
Excellent Shandong Dumplings ( pork with Chinese cabbages, or chicken with mushroom, or tomato/ball pepper with pork, or cucumber with pork and shrimp - yes, I have had all flavors) - fair to say it’s the most authentic dumplings that I’ve ever had in Hong Kong in 10 something years .... very juicy, with the warm sauce perfectly wrapped and contained in the soft yet slightly bouncy dough ( I believe they make the dough from scratch)...Then when you chew, the well chopped minced Chinese cabbage juice splashes in your mouth with its original, specific umami taste along your teeth and tongue.... best Shandong dumplings ever...…Read More

Shockingslowness, bad attitude and service奇差
The Staff
2019-10-05
This place claims to be coffee shop but it’s total false advertisement and fake claim. 撒謊的餐廳,奇差的服務 不要去被騙。We ordered two cups of coffee, waited for more than half an hour and ended up with the waitress constantly telling us “來緊 來緊” (coming coming). Clearly that was a LIE. Nowhere needs more than 30 minutes for preparing two cups of coffees. We left there feeling cheated. Please don’t go as this place would just waste your time and not serve anything. …Read More

Excellent hotpot with one-of-a-kind service
Haidilao Hot Pot (Lee Theatre Plaza)
2018-10-12
Been to the Haidilao in my hometown in China many time, but this is the first time trying it out in HK...  The Signature 2 x 2 hotpot designcaters for different preferences on soup bases for a group of 6~7 ppl  seated in the booth - we ordered Sichuan Spicy,  Tomato (highly recommended!!), and two non-spicy ones.  Electronic order management system on iPad is provided to customers with menu displayed and instant ordering.  We ordered popular choices for hotpot including sliced beef/fish/pork, seafood (miced seafood balls or chopped/sliced), vegetables and many feature Chinese hotpot dishes.  There were also complementary fruits (watermelon, etc.) as starters displayed in the sauce bar section for grabs.  While getting fruits, customers can also put together a small bowl of sauces (~15 choices for mix) to "dip" their food in, for extra flavours. We got the sauces quickly after ordering as we know the food was gonna be there pretty soon. Then... Haidilao waiters didn't surprise us by bringing the food real fast after the orders were submitted on the electronic iPad.  Dishes after dishes came to the cart and the ingredients were fresh and well presented. We all started boiling the food and eating... Nothing acts better as the climax of a hotpot dinner than some tender and appropriately-seasoned gourmet-level hotpot beef slices and fish balls dancing in your mouth... After eating several rounds of meat, dumplings and vegetables, we ordred the La Mian noodles  (a.k.a. hand-pulled noodles..). 18 HKD per serve. It's really long so we ordered 6 (or 8?) serves of noodles to be "pulled"... Then came the fantastic LaMian-making show!!  The LaMian maker came over, and pulled the noodles from one dough into 2, 4, 8, 16... multiple layers such that the noodles were thin enough, with faced-paced dancing moves (kung fu???)... It was an amazing experience and felt just like watching opera or ballet sitting at the front row.  Please don't miss this if you come to this place... We could almost feel the "momentum" in the noodles from his kung fu, when we ate the LaMian after boiling them in the hotpot.... One of us was having birthday over the weekend. The waitress heard us talking about it and then brought out a "Happy Birthday" board!  Several staff came over and we all sang happy-birthday song for our friend. And our birthday darling got a complementary desert on the house. We kept eating and drinking... yet at the end of our dinner, there was a masking-changing performance!  Traditional Chinese music was played when the mask performer danced to it, changing his mask instantly again and again.   Many customers stood up, applausing, cheering and recording the show... The restaurant was like a bar with live music all of a sudden!  We also recorded it and replayed it (in slow motion, too) for many times... but just couldn't figured how he changed the masks!!Wow factor after wow factor... So much happiness, love and laughter at Haidilao!  Really one of a kind! …Read More

Authentic Sichuan cuisine
Wing Lai Yuen Sichuan Noodles
2018-10-08
Sichuan cuisine is known for its bold flavours with high degree of spiciness and pungency, however, the true authentic Sichuan dishes also highlight the original ingredient's essence even hidden under the heavy usage of chilli peppers and spices.  Wing Lai Yuen does well with this regard, differentiating itself from the mass, stereotypical, copy-cat Sichuan restaurants, and showing to customers that they are indeed more than heavy and spicy flavours.   The stir-fry potato strips were professionally handled with the right amount and process of vineginar, so it's  not too sour, while crispy enough.  Dan dan noodles' texture is chewy and soup is stringy....  Slow-brewed beef is also recommended - tender, chunky and satisfiable portion. …Read More

Shockly horrible experience 令人震驚之糟糕體驗
Courage Eighteen
2018-10-07
I have just had the worst dining experience ever at Courage Eighteen....unfortunately this statement was without slight  exageration.  First, we ordered a pot of tea for two people, and some "Wedges & Cheese".  After about 20 minutes waiting, during which time we saw the cook staff took his sweet time prepping the frozen wedges in the pan and slowly heated them up.  After the wedges were served, we both tried one wedge, and.... we had to spit them out, because the wedges were still FROZEN INSIDE!(我們不得不薯角吐出來,因為薯角內部仍為冰塊!).  They were undercooked and tasted discusting.  We told a waiter about this, but he couldn't understand English, and got his co-worker to help understand. We showed them the frozen-inside wedges, so they apologied and took the plate away, and promised to serve another plate of wedges (侍應生承諾會重新做一盤薯角).... We waited... and waited... about 10 minutes later, a waiter came by and told us that there actually weren't enough wedges (我們等啊等,又約十分鐘后,侍應生告訴我們,其實已經沒有薯角了。  They told us that we could change the order to something else, so we picked Jumbo Blueberry Muffin, which only requires being heated, after losing faith in them cooking anything more complex....  Again we waited and waited and waited... we were chatting the whole time, but still realized that 35 minutes had passed.... We took a look at the staff heating up the muffin, and noticed that he was just putting the muffin in and out of the Microwave.  After 40 minutes of waiting for a simple muffin (等一個簡單的鬆餅等了40分鐘之後),we couldn't take it anymore and started to feel starving, so we left the place, and got the hkd 20 back on the way out.   We were in a good mood before stepping inside this place and didn't know that we would go through such shockingly horrible experience.  If your microwave is broken, just please tell your customer, instead of letting them wait for 40 minutes starving there, and then fail to serve anything at the end.  In addition, the pot of tea never got refill-ed, even the menu says it's re-fillable. No one checked with us or came by so we could have a chance to ask for refill.  In summary, the experience at Courage Eighteen was shockingly horrible ... I regret so much that we walked in there. …Read More

Authentic Thai food / opens past midnight
Thai Farmer Restaurant
2018-05-27
Thai Farmer opens till 1am, so it's perfect for tipsy people we have been drinking after work for hours and forget to have dinner before midnight.... Despite of not being 100% sober every time I set foot in this humble-on-the-outside, comfortable-on-the-inside little restaurant, I could still tell that the flavour is authentic and ingredients are very fresh. In addition, the dishes are not excessively seasoned, allowing the original taste of ingredients to thrive without being heavy in calories!…Read More

Kinjo's Izakaya
2018-05-27
Nice Izakaya in Soho with good wine and sake collection. Highly recommend "Okinawa Pork Delicacies", which comes with egg yolk as sauce... I kept savoring it even a couple days after the visit. Grilled veggies and seafood are fresh and succulent. Whole menu is also reasonably priced. Great value!…Read More

Cheap and hearty Thai street food
So Thai So Good
2018-05-05
The street-food themed menu almost guarantees a satisfactory portion - every dish's got hearty chunky meat (big crispy pork knuckles, chicken/beef, etc.) paired with a full pate of fried rice or pad thai. This free style fusion doesn't impair its authenticity or taste, either. Liked what we had!…Read More

Deli-O
2018-04-08
Had Scallop fried rice with coffee for lunch here. Nice taste and generous portion --- 4 reasonably sized scallops. It's late lunch hours (2pm) so only a few tables were occupied. Sofa seat, light music and quietness added much value to the experience. Staff were responsive and friendly -- brought me water immediately after I asked for it. …Read More

Generous portion and nice environment
Avanti Pizzeria
2018-04-07
We walked into this pizzeria after shopping video games with just expectation to get casual dinner, but AVANTI turns out to be a very pleasant surprise.1) The portion of Osso Bucco with risotto was HUGE!! It seemed enough for both me and my boyfriend. At the end I had to pack the leftover (still more-than-half-a-pound-ish beef) and took it home. For HKD 158, it's great value. Taste is good, too. The other dish Meatball Spaghetti also has generous portion. 2) The environment was clean, not crowded and relaxing. We also liked the slow classical music played the whole time. …Read More

Wildfire Pizzabar (凌霄閣)
2018-02-25
It gets quite packed in Wildfire at the Peak after 12:00ish, so us arriving at 11:30am for an early lunch helped secure a nice window table where we could look at the Victoria Bay directly in a less noisy environment. The priceless, marvellous view of Hong kong from the Peak made the price paid 10 times worthwhile... we ordered Homemade Gnocchi and Chicken Kebab which were satisfactory and of good portion. …Read More

Nice lunch bento
NOBU InterContinental Hong Kong
2018-02-25
400ish hkd lunch bento gives people a more economic option for dining in Nobu. 6 serves of select Japanese-Peruvian style choices plus dissert delivers both quality and satiety. Environment is neat and clean, but the dim lights and rather dark setting probably are not for everyone...…Read More

A very "American" diner with authentic food
Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill (太古城中心)

10/10 point on environment and deco. Choo choo train running over head, bug buffalo head over whisky and vodka bottles, painting of Lincoln and Martin Luther King.... The place brings to the America's "Windy City" as the title suggested... liked the food too. American portion!…Read More
