地方好, 坐得又舒服,不太貴!Value-for-money, comfy & elegant.
Loong Yat Heen

I have been to many Cantonese restaurants lately, and this one was definitely a hidden gem located on the second floor of the Kowloon Hotel. First impression, the elegant style was reminiscent of those I went to when I was a teen: high cushioned chairs, appropriate lighting, spaciousness among tables and with a high ceiling.Their tall windows gave additional daylight and a nice partial view of Nathan Road overlooking the old Kowloon Sogo. Across the street was The colonial style The Peninsula. We ordered Chinese BBQ, two dishes, BBQ Spanish Black Iberico pork(蜜汁西班牙黑毛豬又燒皇)and roasted pork belly(脆皮燒腩仔). The former was tender and sweet, the latter juicy with crunchy skin. Honestly, they weren't the best, but I would place them in the top 5. Then the star came to our table: Peking Duck (北京片皮鴨兩食). The colour was perfect! the skin was crispy and an adequate amount of fat and meat rolled into the pancake with extra condiments(cantaloupe, pickled ginger,...plum sauce and sesame paste) made it unique and out shone others that I had had before. The Peking Garden (all branches) should take note! Crystal folds were "the second eat". Duck meat was a bit too generous to my liking, it needed more celery and added deep fried rice noodle bits. (Joyyou members took affords to chew on it).We also had braised vegetables with bamboo piths(竹笙鼎湖上素): delicious! Fried noodles with US Berkshire pork(豉油王黑豚肉炒麵). The noodles were excellent; we could taste the aroma from the supreme soy sauce (the key to good fried noodles). To complete the meal, we ordered steamed sesame rolls(芝麻卷) and deep-fried dumplings(流沙奶皇煎堆仔). Let the dumplings cool a bit and enjoy the cruspiness of the shell, and the subtle creaminess of the custard. I could resist and ended up having 2.5 balls out of the five . A memorable dining experience …Read More

QUE (MOKO新世紀廣場)
2024-05-09
I recommended QUE café to my friends because the location at Hysan Place (CWB) was amazing and the foods we ordered were delicious. However, this one at MOKO was a total disappointment. I ordered the seaweed risotto with grilled squid, the dish was warm, else it would have gotten my approval. My friend had the Chirashi donburi, the sashimi fish cubes were not the freshest! Again, the one I had at Hysan was ooshii! We also had the pork loin with Choya wine sauce, it was good but took an hour to arrive. The poor manager was managing at his best, while his staff mostly seemed to be clueless most of the time. The cleaning staff were walking about making the place dropped its rating class by 2 out of 5. The Head office of the chain must take note, especially there are abundant good choices in the MOKO mall! to the hard working manager! …Read More

First time at a western Japanese restaurant, and its famous Omurice (Japanese Omelette Rice) オムライス. Mine came with Ebi Fry (Japanese Fried Shrimp) エビフライ. The sauce was delicious, it tasted like lobster bisque.: 好濃! Fried shrimp with tartar sauce was very nice, no complaint.  The omlette was buttery and creamy, the server opened up the egg pocket and oozed out its soft cheesy custard like scrambled egg inside; it mixed with fried rice made it a perfect spoonful, $122 - 4 yum. Hot brewed coffee $28 and I ordered its Chobu cake. It's a chiffon cake with a delicate nutty cream sauce, it was delicious and light - 5 yum.  A satisfying lunch. They have window seats for 4, ideal for afternoon tea.   …Read More

Central Indian Restaurant
2024-01-06
Four of us went for lunch. A small place filled with cumin, turmeric, gram masala fragrance, we knew we came to the right place for authentic Indian foods. We ordered 4 lunch-sets that came with drinks. Frisee salad and 2 vegetarian samosa appetizers- 3 yum, standard fair. Tandoori chicken was nicely grilled and charred- 4 yum. Butter chicken, creamy - 4 yum. Lamb Korma meat was so tender, and went very well with the sauce - 5 yum. Lastly, we have Prawn Vindaloo. The Prawns were grilled perfectly, and not mushy, delicious - 5 yum. They came with Biryani rice and naan. I had Mango Lassi, which was a nice compliment to the meal.     …Read More

A good reason to come to Repulse Bay!
Spices Restaurant
2023-06-14
Hugh patio that seats many, covered with parasols, so no worries with showers. It makes a romantic getaway for couples. I bet at night it's even better,  with ocean breeze, perfect sunset and dim lights. A welcome place for novelists to get inspiration for sure. Or pretend you are a Hollywood A-lister. My point is the atmosphere is great. Back to our main focus, the foods. We has the platter with satays (beef and chicken) , shrimp balls and somosa (vegs) , on their own they were great, but with its paired sauces, it made excellent appetizers to savor Spice's classic dishes. Then we ordered Butter Chicken (originated from London). It was buttery, chicken was tendered, the sauce excellent. I tasted chestnut. We paired it with Naan, or you could have it with Basmati rice. While it used to be Repulse Bay hotel and used in many movies settings, it remains a place-to-be.  …Read More

Sun Thai Restaurant (Hing Wong Court)
2023-06-09
Phad Thai, despite how people say it's a classic in Thailand or not, must be the best in a Thai restaurant. I didn't taste or smell the 3 key ingredients that made it so good: fish sauce, tamarind sauce, and lime flagrant. 2 shrimps, no chicken, noodles... wrapped inside an egg laced dome. Looked pretty. Tasted okay.I also ordered stir-fried soft-shell crab salt and pepper, which came later. Fresh, meaty and delicious with deep fried garlic, and pepper flakes . A pint of Singha beer to wash down my meal.…Read More

Transported instantly to an authentic Japanese yaki-house down some narrow stone steps was a place brought with lots of childhood memories of magna characters: new and old. Ultraman, Gandum, ...placed all over counters and spaces you least expected. More impressive were bottles of sake stacked on their shelves. Who needed Bourgogne when you have sake! I and my friend had an excellent time, A4 beef was delicious, torched at the table; steamed sake oysters sweet, silky and fresh. Beef tongue yaki was tender with a bite. We ordered the 3 Star cold sake, wash well with anything that came. The noris completed the meal. Quietly, I'd say it's better than Birdie in Central. Just saying...…Read More

Rakuraku Ramen (Kornhill Plaza North)
2023-05-22
I ordered the special lobster bisque ramen. Soft bone chicken appetizer. Both were okay. Noodle made to order, I wanted al dente. But I wished the brooth were hotter? I want to see steam coming out to warrant it's freshly made. The soft chicken bone, well I had some way better but at a different price range. This was okay. Decent for lunch. Bit overpriced. last week I had bento box with eel, meat patties, salad, a bowl of rice, soup and appetizer, $108, $10 less than today's. Much better food and deal. …Read More

Bakehouse
2023-05-21
Saw the award given by Openrice, so I wanted to see if I could relive my mornings at 5e arrondissement à Paris promenaded with a croissant and a café au lait...After seeing long lineups at Causeway's and Wanchai's store in days, I finally got in the queue. Crossiants and sourdough egg tarts, their most popular items.Prices are cheap for a specialty bakery. Some franchises charge more for more inferior products. Egg tart was small, cute and a bit too sweet, but creamy. Sourdough? errrrr.Oui to their croissant, flaky buttery crust and layers of goodness, perfect for breakfast.Next to try is their pain chocolat, and sourdough bread. …Read More

cestmoi29 I mean I order from take-out, so I am not sure about their wait staff. I can only assume they serve in both languages. The dining part is down-to-erath.

PEKING GARDEN (Pacific Place)
2019-05-13
I am surprised quality varies so much among the franchises. We usually go to the one in Central, but because it's more convenient to go to the one at Pacific Place this time for lunch. We remember way way way back the place was popular.First mistake: if a restaurant popularity dropped it had to have a reason. Don’t have a second thought or give it a benefit of doubt.北京填鴨片皮到檯已经涷了. Pancakes 放在one蒸籠were so messy. Service was so so. 最少叫就做.Too expensive and nothing to show for it.  …Read More

No wow!
Plat du Jour
2019-05-08
Went for lunch. Ordered their 3 courses lunchset.Starter: Steak tartare. One dish packed with lots of protein. It served with 3 pieces of thinly toasted baguette. There were small pinches of herbs, condiments, salt , cayenne? a quail egg sat on top of the tartare. Verdict - it's a bit difficult to do the mélangant, I was hoping it to be chopped more finely. The once I had in Toronto Mövenpick had lots of fresh onion to make it sharp and contrast in texture (soft 'sweet' beef and spicy onion bits), like having beef shasimi with wasabi. In this case, the taste was a bit of a blur, and I was not sure those little touches of flavours add anything to it. I tried it with the toast and dashes of olive oil and balsamic vinegar it then gave it a bit of a lift. Not impressed. Entrée: Mediterranean Sea Bass. It was grilled perfectly, i.e., crispy skin. I expected the fish had a bounce it my mouth, but the bite turned a bit mushy after a few chew. The ratatouille sitting under had no wows. The plating was pleasing. Dessert: Mousse des fraises. I got a sorbet and a mousse with quartered strawberries placed in a sort of pattern. There were also dots of petit meringue and cube gélatines, with circular strokes of strawberry coulis. Bon ben. It's likely only a one time experience here.…Read More

Bouchon Bistro Francais
2019-05-05
It was my second round at Bouchon, but this time I went for dinner with a friend.  We booked a table for 2, were seated right away. Starter: we had Les Escargots: they were a disappointment, not garlicky enough and I was pretty sure they used olive oil instead of butter, so the taste and aroma were less noticeable. Entrees:  Confit de Canard was excellent. The meat was super tender and it smelled good. The duck had a smoky flavour; the skin could be a tad crispier. We also ordered a French classic Bouillabaisse. Excellent seafood medley - softshell crab (unusual), white fish with skin that was nicely grilled first, mussels, calamari, and shrimps. The broth was amazing, it had a rich taste. Dessert: Chocolate mousse. Airy and not to sweet, it was how it should be... A+Bouchon is definitely a place I will go back again and again.…Read More

Japanese Cuisine Tonkachi

Their signature 豚カツwas probably the best I have had tasted. The batter was flaky and crispy. The pork cutlet was juicy. The  sauce  was great (I have to guess it was made, not bought.) The 味噌汁 had chicken and vegetable , which was sweet and tasty. I will try to make this version @home definitely. The place was clean and with typical Japanese restaurant layout. Staff were friendly, and food arrived fast. If you arefirst time like I was , be aware that the cutlet at special discount value has a per day limit. Go early to get the special. At $72, it’s a great lunch and very satisfying. Will definitely go again, but for dinner next  time. …Read More

Expensive!
Pizza Hut (Yanville)
2019-04-07
On-Line system worked well, and easy to make order. Delivery was on-time.超級至尊 with cheese crust @ $168 , that’s  a medium (Cdn size) pizza and it was way too expensive . I thought it was a 12” when I ordered. Another thing that irked me was the picture and actual thing were materially different. When I read the fine print while eating a slice, it said picture and actual might look different. Well, lucky this was in HK, it’d never work in Canada. But to the main point, the pizza came  hot, tasty and the fillings were adequate. Don’t expected to taste the different meats on the pizza... It’s hard to tell what was what. Once was plenty for me. Will not order again. But I could be bias, when pizza is a main staple of a  Canadian meal, while in HK, perhaps it’s  a more whimsical fair.P.S. : BTW, I went a while ago for their afternoon tea specials in Kowloon, and that’s a much better money for value meal.…Read More
