Family downtime
ANA GURA
2019-05-22
Restaurant has an upmarket feel with a good ambience. Only criticism is the table setting where they opted for paper advertising as placemats. This fish was specifically selected from their board menu. Courtesy of our more knowledgeable family member, we were able to choose the type of fish we want for the night. This was really fresh and just melts in the mouth. We had an array of sushi to share. Presentation was delectable and taste was fresh. It wasn’t too busy with lots of ingredients that could overpower the texture and awesome flavour of the seafood.Lamb cutlets were cooked just right, juicy and tender and with minimal flavouring to better appreciate it. Chicken skin yakitori was nice and crispy. A challenge for calorie counters but it was very nice to try.Last but not the least, rice topped with soup and garnished with mentaiko was highly commendable. I really loved it. Soup was nice and refreshing with soft sushi rice. All in all a nice relaxing evening that satisfied a famished family.…Read More

A quiet, private family dinner as we waited around Central. We have opted to order individual dishes to share this night. Every dish carried its own character in terms of flavour. Presentation was done with great care. The bonito was quite tender and carries its own flavour. It was certainly commendable to give it a try.The eel was quite smooth in texture, coupled with the omelette. It had a sweetish undertone. It would have been a good pairing with rice as it was a wet dish. Highly recommended.Grilled meat was good size for sharing. Miso sauce was quite salty but a good combination with the grilled beef. Pork was served with mixed grain mustard with salad on the side. Chicken was paired with yuzu sauce with salad on the side. It was all a good combo with eel and grilled corn.Mentaiko can be quite overpowering on its own. Wrapped in Sakura leaf and seaweed tamed its saltiness and slightly bitter tang. Soft shell crab was crunchy. It was a challenge to eat this sushi in one go as it was quite big. Excellent restaurant. Comes highly recommended.NB this is not linked to any dining offer to myself or my family.…Read More

A quiet and wet afternoon. Looked for a place to hangout while waiting. It was a limited seating only cafe. On a Saturday, at 6pm, upstair seating was unavailable. They have a chic and inviting decor. Service was good and pricing reasonable for good coffee.Chai latte was sweet and with a distinct cardamom taste. Coffee was robust in flavour. They had ‘Oatly’ milk as an alternative to milk.Another good find in Hong Kong CBD.…Read More

Tsukemen Mitaseimenjo (K11 Art Mall)
2019-04-20
This restaurant is quite simple in its decor. Seating is tight and limited. Expect to wait for awhile, and it was on a cash only payment.Service was quick once taken by the waiting staff. Presentation was not their forte, but taste was good. Tsukemen came with a rich, thick soup. The noodles had a texture that when dipped carried the flavours of the sauce with it. Topping on the noodles were a couple slices of pork and a few condiment like soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots and leek. One of their dishes (English translation unavailable) was served with the same noodles but was semi-dry. It had a combo of flavoured mince, egg yolk, and condiments. The mince meat had been marinated with their spicy sauce. …Read More

HEYTEA
2019-04-18
This is the new bubble tea shop that just opened in K11. Is it worth the hype?Storefront was quite hip in its decor. An all white colour scheme added to its charm. To try, we ordered a boba milk tea. It was surprisingly good. What sets it apart from other milk tea places was the tea itself. It was nice and almost smoky in flavour. But was it worth the price? Definitely worth the try. …Read More

PAN de PAIN Pancake & Sweets (K11購物藝術館)
2019-04-18
A very popular little restaurant in K11. Soy latte wasn’t too bad. It was a big mug for a strong coffee drinker. Chai latte wasn’t very sweet and quite nice. It has the spiciness needed for a good chai without being overpowered in sweetness. This is quite the dessert. The soufflé pancakes were so soft that it melted in the mouth. Very different from the traditional pancakes. It was fluffy in texture. It wasn’t very eggy in flavour where it can almost be mistaken for an omelette. Definitely worth coming back for. Drizzle it with syrup and mixed with butter, heavenly.…Read More

Service during lunch was unsatisfactory. It was a busy lunch time, but staff were quite rude when asked for an a la carte menu. They were slow in dealing with special requests. They were a bit too oily. Presentation was mundane. It doesn’t have enough flavour in them. There seems to be more rice than any other content. It was a substantial serving but, could work on the blending of taste. This is akin to normal chicken nuggets. A nice starter except for the oiliness. It doesn’t have the juicy, tender quality of a good nugget. It was dry in texture once you bite into the chicken.Korea’s tobokki ala Carbonara. It was too creamy for appreciation. Presentation was lacking as the tobokki was awash with cream. Alfalfa looked like an afterthought. This dish was left almost untouched. Definitely not popular. Again, this dish was too bland and lacking in its presentation. I agree that too much salt is not very healthy, yet a bit goes a long way. It was difficult to engage with a lacklustre dish. It had content in the middle that was difficult to describe. Crab sticks? Omelette was of good consistency. It isn’t clear why they served the dish straight from the stove to the table, still in the frying pan. It didn’t achieve their intent on both taste and presentation.…Read More

Greyhound Café (ELEMENTS圓方)
2019-04-14
It is bigger than expected. They have a surprisingly large selection of dishes compared to other Greyhound Cafe. The style of this restaurant leans on the black and white theme. It felt roomier and somewhat comfortable. We ordered Thai iced tea and a cafe latte (skim). Coffee is acceptable. All drinks are on the pricey range. The Vietnamese rice paper rolls were all stuck together therefore quite a challenge to share between two people. They were too small for their price range. They were dainty and cute in their presentation. Photo makes it bigger than actual size. The pasta with Thai anchovy was very good. Pasta was cooked al dente. You couldn’t detect the anchovy taste and the sauce has a hint of spiciness in it. I believe this dish was just nicely done with its fusion of flavours, complete with the addition of green peppers.Pad Thai was also nicely cooked. It was both sweetish and spicy. It is rich with goodness in flavour. Portion is right for both dishes.Presentation is excellent from all dishes. They are a fusion dish that tried to keep Thai flavours and style. I would recommend.…Read More

URBAN Café Commune (MOKO新世紀廣場)
2019-04-10
Chosen for their early service. At 11am, the place was quiet and unusually peaceful. The place has a nice seating setup with a view of the centre of the shopping mall. It was a good choice for coffee. Coffee is not that strong but it isn’t bad either. Choice of a fusion dish like the carbonara was interesting both in flavour and texture. It is a mix of noodles with onsen egg providing a creamy texture. The noodles was nice and firm which differs to your usual spaghetti. Overall flavour was excellent. Portion was just right.Staff were attentive and service was quick. …Read More

Order was for a mango crepe. It wasn’t as I expected. My expectations were of a hot, newly cooked crepe. It was cold and pre-prepared with mangoes and vanilla ice cream on top. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to our liking.Coffee wasn’t that great either. It wasn’t as full bodied therefore quite weak in taste. Our iced chocolate was quite nice so no problems in that. Staff was accommodating and service was quick.…Read More

J.S. FOODIES (又一城)
2019-03-27
Afternoon tea just after 4pm and already we had to wait for a table. It took awhile to be seated as JS Foodies didn’t have as many tables as a proper restaurant. Waiter was quite genial and attentive. It didn’t take that long for our orders to arrive. Their latte was good and worth ordering again. This dessert was interesting. The cream complimented this dish, adding the richness and sweetness to it. Soufflé tasted more like an omelette. It was fluffy, just the flavour. I would probably stick to original pancakes. Both of these burgers were superb in flavour. The side fries was also very tasty. Meat in the burger was tender and juicy. Reminiscent of the burgers we had in Tokyo. It was meticulously presented. The whole experience was worth the try. I would certainly recommend it, and will definitely come back again.Cons: It is quite dear in price considering they didn’t have much seating area. They are constantly busy and could feel rushed to hand your table back. …Read More

The Pawn

It was a family affair and we had a chill time at this restaurant. Ambience was comforting and relaxed. Service was good with staff being attentive and courteous. We had a special request for our birthday girl and they tried their best to accommodate. It was overall a wonderful night.Beef was nice and tender. It was a big enough to share for three people. Good presentation. Delectable. The lamb shank was a truly comfort food. It was nice and tender. Beautifully presented with beans and couscous. Pasta with olive oil and garlic sauce was a custom made pasta for the night. Excellent flavour and portions. Likewise, the risotto was made just right with added scallops. The tomato as a salad side dish was quite satisfying with interesting ingredients and flavour. The Brussel sprouts was how I would normally have made it, with bacon pieces. To finish the night, tiramisu and bread and butter pudding. Thank you for the lovely gesture of a birthday candle and chocolate engraving that went with the tiramisu. Tiramisu was light and fluffy mixed with the richness of cream and a hint of coffee. Pudding was just beautiful.…Read More

A tempting stop for the locals. A summer time favourite. A newly discovered, personally, brown sugar bubble tea is a must. They open late in the day and when they do, expect a very long wait. They have a good numbering system. The ordering system is quite systematic. Order size, amount of sugar, extra like bubbles and off you go. Cash register person could be quite abrupt but don’t be disheartened. They want your business so persevere.…Read More

I spent 4 hours in this place catching up with a friend. Staff was polite. We had breakfast which was a nice meal where I had two egg omelette on sourdough with an almond latte. It was a very good meal. Their range of tea was also a good selection. They use a nice earl gray and offer ginger tea. Atmosphere is nice. It can get busy at lunch. We just kept ordering to retain our seats. We had a good catch up in the end.…Read More

It was a very late dinner but we made it. Two things about service, polite and quick. They were patient to wait for us as we chose. Professional in taking the order and also presentation was good even as it was at the end of the night for them.We ordered slow-cooked pork sauce on rice and on noodles. It was nice and hearty. I loved the additional egg on the side. The noodles were cooked al dente. The sauce added all the flavour it needed to complement the noodles. On the side was basil flavoured fried eggplant. It was a bit oily but not lacking in flavours. It had a balance of spicy and tang from chilli and the ginger. Lastly was the popcorn chicken, it was a wonderful addition. Just loved it. We also had their famous Taiwanese bubble tea. It had a strong tea flavour without being too sweet. We finished nicely satisfied.…Read More
