Everything was wrong about this place.
The Pawn
2016-09-12
We came here expecting good food and good service from this famous restaurant, but neither did we get. We arrived for brunch on a saturday and the place was largely empty. Ordering from the set brunch menu sitting on level 1, we waited quite some time before the starters arrived. Our sharing menu consisted of two starter dishes, and to our shock, two different starters arrived at the same time for one person, while the other waits for their starters. We weren't told that we were supposed to share this or eat this alone. The communication was almost non-existent. I was not blown away by the starters, in fact, the taste was sub-par. I could cook tastier canned beets than them. The beets were supposed to come with quinoa, but I counted less than 10 pieces on the entire plate. For the main dishes, the sirloin steak was like chewing a piece of tasteless cloth. We were not asked for the degree of doneness.  The flat iron chicken was over-burnt, but still way better than the steak. In fact, we were even asked for anything, the server didn't even ask who ordered the steak or the chicken, it was just dumped onto the table. We just shook our heads and finished our food like an adult. It costed us $317 each. We could get way better food and service anywhere in Central. This is yet again another tourist trap, just for taking pictures of the historical building, and the immaculate decor. Definitely not coming back. …Read More

Thai fish fillet
Bao Wow
2014-09-02
For $32 I got myself a Thai fish fillet bun thing. I don't think there is anything wrong with the fillings, in fact, I liked it a lot. The problem was just with the bun itself, I am just not a big fan of their Chinese? style bun. If they served me with a taco wrap or flatbread or anything else then I would have given them a perfect score. I think there is something wrong with their differentiation strategy to be different? …Read More

Good wings
Caliburger
2014-09-02
For $38 I got myself a paper box of 5 buffalo chicken wings, 3 celery sticks, and blue cheese dip. I think the wings tasted quite good. They were crisp and flavourful, together with the blue cheese dip that matched the taste very well, obviously. If they were not spicy enough you could always add some Tabasco sauce. The celery sticks were dry and stale, cut up long time ago, so it was a good idea not eating them. Somehow I don't find this too expensive as opposed to some other reviews.…Read More

Unexpected visit
Wagyu Café
2014-09-02
We weren't planning to come here but the other places closeby were all full. I ordered an eggs benedict - American, which was served with avocado and bacon. The whole dish was rather tasteless except for the bacon (but who can ruin a bacon?). The eggs were overcooked. The hollandaise sauce was thick and without seasoning.  Overall, it wasn't too bad, but wasn't good either.…Read More

Not good...
CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice (Hennessy Road)
2014-09-02
I ordered grass jelly milk tea, my first impression was not enough grass jelly. Their competitors put in a lot more. After I got to half the drink I felt nauseous, I'm not entirely sure why though. This is the first time I tried this place, and when I drink milk tea from other places I usually drink the whole cup without any trouble. I had to throw away half the drink this time. What a waste.…Read More

Very boring burgers
Burgeroom
2014-03-15
We ordered a classic burger and a sole fish burger. The fish burger was actually rather good for the crispiness, other than that you won't really taste any real fish because they have to put strong flavours to drown out the fishy taste. This is expected for fish burgers anyways. The classic burger was the big disappointment. The beef patty was completely tasteless. I don't exactly know what beef they used that it could taste like chewy plastic and with no taste. I have not a single clue how they prepared that burger. I would probably say McDonald's patties have more flavour than theirs. Weird. On top of that, the sauce was not strong enough to cover the tastelessness of the burger. If they had made a more flavourful sauce then I guess it could balance the burger. The service was actually very horrible for us. I'm not sure why we had to wait longer than the many people who have ordered after us. Did they really forget our order? Or was it deliberate? Or did they prepare the more expensive burgers first? Or whatever. It was not pleasing seeing others got served way before us but came in far later than us. Let's not mention they won't even give you hot water.  All in all, I do not understand the hype of this company on openrice.…Read More
