HK fried chicken, not Korean
Sodam Chicken
2020-05-13
Well, ordered the crispy fried chicken and the baked garlic chicken..... 1. Quality of chicken is not very good, KFC or McD are more tender. It has a sticky chicken smell.2. Not so Korean. Not authentic enough, too HK style.Just these 2 points are enough for me to stay away. Overall 1/10…Read More

Midnight comfort!
Chicken HOF & SOJU (Wah Fat Mansion)
2015-08-18
The welcome know KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) in town! Situated in Wanchai / CWB, the restaurant itself is nothing fancy! Service was great! Both local and Korean staff are very friendly! To begin, ordered the 3L beer to share! This Korean Beer is on the light side, but definitely a must with KFC. KFC with onions! Great flavor! The onions is a great combo with the chicken! Their KFC are very tender and crispy! Perfect with beer and for midnight snack!Pan fried Pork! Very filling and meaty! Good texture and flavor! If you like spicy, do ask for the special hot and spicy sauce! This will blow your mind.... and tongue! Order with caution!Overall, I give it a 7 out of 10 amongst my midnight snacks ratings!…Read More

Yakiniku night!
Niku Niku
2015-07-27
It’s my second time to this restaurant! Place is relatively new in Tai Hang. Haven’t been to their second floor, but the first floor is quite small with around 12 seats. Reason I came back is because of their great service. Their staffs are very friendly and helpful.Started with their special Beef Sashimi with Uni. Always love this combination. If their beef could be more thinly sliced, it would have been perfect!Ordered the 2 kinds of ox tongues. The thicker sliced ones give a better texture! Both not bad!Next was the thinly sliced tender (Prime & Deluxe). The deluxe one has a greater fat distribution. Both are acceptable but not spectacular! Had to have some rice with it to absorbed some of the grease!Their staff recommended the chicken thigh. Personally, I find it too time consuming to cook! Taste wasn’t bad, but the anticipation was too long.Last was the Yaki Shabu! A lot of yakiniku restaurants are serving this, but this one is definitely not the best! The beef could be larger in size and thinner in thickness! The beef itself is not tender enough when compared with another yakiniku restaurant in Sheung Wan.Overall, I give it a 7 out of 10 amongst my Yakiniku ratings!…Read More

Not as good as before!
Lotus Garden
2015-07-24
This restaurant has been around for decades but the interior and exterior had remained unchanged! Old and sticky! Used to come here for their famous Rice Noodle Roll with Twisted Cruller, but it is totally different from before! Was extremely disappointed as they used to make the best in town.Ordered the boiled liver & kidney! Nicely made with perfect timing with the boiling!Noodles with dumpling was delicious! Noodles do not have the “base” taste and the dumpling was rich!Overall, I give it a 4 out of 10 amongst my Noodle Congee ratings!…Read More

Gourmet Burger!
Big Fernand
2015-07-24
Great little burger joint at IFC. Usually packed during lunch hours and I usually go before or after to stay away from the crowd. Their staff are very friendly and helpful. A great place for afternoon wine and burger! On this particular day, I ordered their classic Le Big Fernand (medium rare). Great beef patty, juicy and tender! Most importantly, you can taste the beef. The seasoning and sauce were great with great cheese! Great combination! Their fries are not the typical crunchy ones, but soft with seasonings. Some might think it is soggy, but I love the texture!Overall, I give it a 8.5 out of 10 in my burger ratings!…Read More

1930's night out!
Gaddi's
2015-07-20
It's the famous Gaddi's! French romantic dinner in the 1930's. Restaurant itself without a doubt is the most classic restaurant in Hong Kong. Situated inside the Peninsula Hotel, the décor evokes the old Hong Kong and the hotel’s neoclassical architecture. It has an European dinning room with 2 great big crystal chandeliers. Live music at the left of the restaurant! This is the kind of romantic restaurants where people propose! As a matter of fact, the first time I was here, a young man was proposing!Service is excellent, one you would expect from a 6 star hotel. To begin with, we have 3 types of butters! Each has it own distinctive taste! Chicken appetizer was served! Not too special, chicken was on the dry side, but the flavor was light and good!Ordered 4 appetizers in total! First was the salmon tartar with uni! You will need to mix everything in the bowl to bring out the full flavor of this dish. Loved it! Mix Salad! Fresh and refreshing with balsamic vinegar. Wild salmon with condiments. Gaddi’s seasoned salmon, very light and the wild salmon was very good in texture! Finally, the Foie Gras! Exceptional! Haven't had such a thick piece of foie gras and yet, so perfectly cooked! This is amazing! For Entrée, we ordered the Veal Chop and the signature pigeons. The veal was beautifully presented, but the veal inself was a bit too dry! The signatured pigeon was marvelous! It was so tender and you don’t expect it to be a pigeon! Great dressing in combination with the pigeon! The Chocolate soufflé was magnificent! Not too sweet and yet it melts in your mouth! Combination with the ice cream makes it even better!Great food, great wine, great people. Overall, I give it a 8.5 out of 10 amongst my award winning restaurant ratings.…Read More

Great Comfort Food!
The Diner
2015-07-20
Great diner! Haven't seen a decent Amercian Diner for a while. Great decor and great for kids! Cartoon Network constantly playing on their  monitors! Been here a couple of times for dinner and breakfast! They have a lot of special burgers that are worth trying. Came here on this day for breakfast! Great portion, American style! Ordered the All American Breakfast! The photo speaks for itself! Plain, simple, and filling! Your choice of eggs of course! Comes with blue berry pan cakes as well! Also ordered the Ham and Cheese Omelette! Served with fries and salad! Good quality ham and the cheese is very delicious! Must order the Fat Elvis Waffle! Waffle with peanut butter, bacon, banana and maple surup! Great combination! And yes, it's BACON! It looks very fattening, but it is actually not! Absolutely great taste!Last but not least, refillable coffee!…Read More

Favorite in HK!
TONKICHI TONKATSU SEAFOOD (ifc mall)
2015-07-16
The IFC The newest to the Tonkichi chain! If you have been to the other Tonkichi's, you know their quality is very consistant! This is my favorite Tonkatsu restaurant in HK. It is similar to Maisen in Tokyo. Amongst other Tonkatsu restaurants in HK, Tonkichi's deep frying time and bread crumbs are the best! Definitely not too greasy and not over fried! On this particular lunch, we ordered 3 appetitizers: Seaweed! Great way to start as it is chilled and slightly sour! A great appetite starter!Spinach - pretty standard Japanese appetizer!Okra! Great mix! Chopped up with great seasoning! Started to prepare Okra that way they do at home as well! Pork Soup! Very good size with a lot of ingredients. Can be very filling if you order it by oneself!Katsu-don! Egg, onions, and deep fried pork chop on top of rice! Definitely a kid pleaser!Kaki Furai! Really love their fried oysters! Perfectly fried with tartar sauce!Curry Pork Chop!Deluxe Fillet! Always the best with the best fat distribution and tenderness.I give it a 9 out of 10 amongst my Tonkatsu ratings!…Read More

2015-07-16
Came here on a very hot day! AC was strong! Restaurant is small but nicely renovated. YOu can see a lot of small details! Since it was so hot, we ordered all the chilled dishes! The appetizers were all very decent! Beef tataki was tender! Pulled pork cucumber was nicely mixed! Not too strong, not too salty! Very refreshing!Chicken Salad was plain! Definitely low chlories here!Hoi An was great! Low Cholories, great taste! Salmon was a good touch! Extremely refreshing!Overall, I give it a 7 out of 10 amongst my Noodle ratings! …Read More

So so, Shabushabu!
Shimo
2015-07-16
Have been searching for a good Shabushabu restaurant that is similar to Japan’s Imahan (今半). Have to say this one is no way near! Restaurant itself is new since the building is new! Layout is very small with Shabushabu bar. Poor ventilation even when the restaurant is not full. View is good!Ordered the Japanese Beef Shabushabu set. Decent appetizers with really fresh oysters. The sashimi were surprisingly good. Also ordered the Uni Osen Egg and Beef roll. Both were very well prepared and tasty.Main event: Beef! There are not much choices for Beef here, either Japanese or US. For the Japanese Beef, they claimed it Kagoshima A5 and by looking at the fat distribution, it’s close but not there yet! Taste wise, it is not tender enough! The set comes with 5 slices of beef and the size is generous! Ordered 2 more plates of extra Japanese Beef pricing at $100/slice but conclusion is the same, not tender enough! The Iberico pork is good! Lean, safe and tasty!Ordered an extra plate of US Beef just to fulfill my curiosity. All I have to say is, DON’T ORDER THE US BEEF!Overall, I give it a 5 out of 10 amongst my Shabu Shabu ratings!…Read More

Great buns!
The Butchers Club Burger
2015-05-12
Great little burger joint on Wellington Street! Have to say, the buns are great! A little bit crispy and the perfect size for its beef patty! The patty itself is well cooked! Pink in the inside! Not much marination, but the pickles, bacon, tomato, and cheese are in great proportion! The potato wedges were tasty. Personally, i think it is a bit pricy for a burger of this size for $100 and $20 for around 10 pieces of potato wedges. However, overall experience was great!Over all, I give it an 8 out of 10 in my burger ratings!…Read More

Top quality!
YAKINIKU GREAT (Manhattan Avenue)
2015-05-07
Good value for good quality! One of the more authentic Japanese Yakiniku in Kyoto style. The restaurant is new, simply, and very clean! Their staff do a very good and thorough job in cleaning after each customer. Their staff (both HK & Japanese) are very polite and friendlyThe beef sushi and chopped beef with onions were great! Perfectly served and not too ice cold.Beef tongue is a must! Extremely tender and texture was great! They have a wide selection of thin cut or thick cut of A5, A4, or A3 wagyu. I personally cannot take A5 or A4 because they are too fat and oily. Have ordered mostly leaner thin cuts and thick cuts equivalent to A3’s. Their staff was very knowledgeable to help me choose what I want! Every selection we ordered was spectacular. All the thin cut A3’s just melt in your mouth, while the sirloins & thick cuts offer an excellent texture! To top it all, the Kyoto Style Yaki-shabu was amazing! A bit pricy, but absolutely addictive!Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10 in my Yakiniku ratings!…Read More

Exquisite Omakase!
Sushi Shikon
2015-04-20
A mysterious Michelin 3 stars. Formerly known as Sushi Yoshitake from Ginza Tokyo, one of the hottest sushi places there and also a 3 star Michelin. Restaurant itself is very small and compact. You don’t see much except the food they are about to serve you. A very simple and clean sushi-ya and you don’t expect to find a Michelin 3 stars restaurant in that neighborhood. To start with, I ordered one of my favorite sake: 十四代(本丸). This is the original十四代 which makes the rest of the十四代 so famous in sake. However the serving method could improve since they used a bowlish container for the sake and it warmed up too fast without any ice to keep it cool.Appetizer wise is very precise and extremely fine made! Awabi in liver sauce was phenomenon. Tako and squid were one of the most tender I have ever tasted.Sushi was exceptional. They use brown rice with all their sushi and fresh warm ones were brought out! Chu Toro was amazing and the slightly toasted Ootoro melts in your mouth. The slight roast took away some of the oil in ootoro which use it a better in mouth experience. The mixed Uni and Akagai were sweet! Raw materials wise were top grade. Simple and direction presentation. Great to use white soy sauce for all their sushi. The last piece was superb! An ordinary piece of Tamago is so well made that it taste like honey cake!Miso soup was served very hot. It does have a distinctive taste to it which makes the whole dinning experience very complete.Desert was green tea ice cream with a toasted home made crust.Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10 in my Sushi ratings.…Read More

Sushi Mori Tomoaki

Another excellent evening of fine Japanese cuisine! Second time visiting with a whole new selection of fish. Toro is always amazing here with fine texture and not as fatty! Uni's are always great here. Had 3 different kinds this evening. The sweeter of the 3  is only available here and not anywhere else in HK. Every dish was excellent, especially 2 that I have never experienced before:1. Spicy sake crab - specially marinated by Mori-San! 2. Aged (4 days) sushi - very creamy with great and long after taste!Ordered a bottle of sake (Nine Headed Dragon), can't believe I finished it all by myself!Great evening again with no room for disappointment! Overall, I give it a 10 out of 10 in my Sushi ratings.…Read More

First time visit after it has been moved! One of my favorite burger joint in town. The new place is much bigger with better ventilation! A very decent burger joint!Ordered the Double Decker with Portabella mushroom and bacon! I love their pattie, it is not too strong in taste but enough seasonings so that it doesn't feel too meaty! Loved the chopped tomatos within! Bacon is nicely done, not crispy and burnt! Fries are not the crispy type, but i like the way they did it so that it is not too greasy! Also order the Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings! Mild in spice, very well fried!Overall, I give it a 8.5 of 10 in my burger ratings! …Read More
