Level 2Hong Kong
I'm a picky eater, but I would gladly pay for quality. I try to be fair with my reviews and have high expectations for Hong Kong eateries.

Disappointed
Greenhouse
2016-06-19
We went to Greenhouse for lunch for my friend's birthday. I had already made a note when I made the reservation that we wanted a "birthday" dessert (they add a candle but no name on cake). I also arrived early and told the server that it was my friend's birthday and to bring out the dessert with candle when we ordered. Needless to say it came to the table sans candle and as I mouthed "birthday" to one of the senior servers they took the plates away - which confused our table and then brought it back with a candle. Food: coffee took 30 mins to arrive and came lukewarm twice which I sent back. The third time was hot but tasteless. I had the all day breakfast. Too oily and soggy. Scrambled eggs were hard and overall a greasy mess. Overall Greenhouse gave me the impression by the décor as a "healthy" food venue. But it's actually strange combinations of fusion food. Ie: Laksa with Iberico ham? I probably won't go back and won't recommend. …Read More

0.5°Japanese Cuisine

From the outside, I was enticed by the décor of this quaint, seemingly authentic Japanese restaurant. I had high expectations after seeing good reviews on open rice, but unfortunately was very disappointed. Five of us went for dinner on a Friday night. The ambience was satisfactory but food quality, freshness, service and taste were all well below expectation. Saying it was mediocre would be a compliment. And when the final bill came, it was shocking. The fish was too salty, we barely touched it - but the staff didn't seem too concerned by our comments. They didn't try to rectify the problem nor did they offer any apologies. Overall this dining experience was not one I would care to repeat nor recommend to my friends. …Read More

Food Ok but BAAAAAD service!!!
Cafe Hue Vietnamese Restaurant
2010-07-10
After the renovations, it's much more comfortable. They have some booths and the tables are bigger. Food is okay, not quite 100% authentic Vietnamese as most of the dishes are too sweet. But probably appropriate for HKers tastes.I was very disappointed with the service. My husband has blacklisted this restaurant even though Vietnamese restaurants are rare in HK. The waitress was quite rude. We had:1x beef noodle - okay1x pork rice - too oily1x chicken salad - too smallI probably wouldn't recommend this restaurant, nor will we return. …Read More

Not Impressed, in fact - VERY DISAPPOINTED
AGE Bar & Restaurant
2010-07-10
I probably won't return. In fact, I was left with a stomach ache and cramps for most of the night because the food was just too oily. The restaurant is very small and narrow accommodating only 6 tables of 4. The waitress cramped everyone in the same area so that it would be easier for her to serve. The tables next to us were so close and loud, our table could barely carry a conversation. The presentation of the food was ok, but looked far better than it tasted. All the dishes lacked flavour and were way too oily.We ordered 2x lunch sets roughly $78.00 each, it came with:Cream of Pumpkin soup - cold + runny Salad - one cherry tomato and 1 lettuce leaf - is that still considered a salad?Pan-fried Seabass - cold + too oilyDuck Breast Risotto - cold + too oilyMango mousse topped with blueberry foam - it looked like soap and was warm!Skim Milk Latte - cold + bitterHoegaarden - flat - probably the best thing on the menuBig plates - small portionsService was polite, but clearly inexperienced. Nobody in the restaurant spoke English, although the establishment serves western cuisine. The bartender was constantly looking over the waitresses shoulder and walking around the restaurant like he was the boss. Very uncomfortable environment. I just couldn't wait to leave. Not once did we receive service with a smile.I think I'll stick to Central or Causeway Bay for my Saturday high tea from now on. …Read More

Brunch
Bourbon
2010-04-06
We were walking around Soho looking for a new place for Brunch and found an unlikely breakfast venue at Bourbon. Formerly a Wildfire outlet, I was checking out the menu when the Manager (Jay) came out to say hello. His cheerful and friendly attitude, the chill atmostphere and the all you can drink Long Island Iced Tea won us over that day. I can't remember the exact names of the dishes but we had something along the lines of:1x Ground beef with scrambled egg - slightly bland, but an interesting combo if there was more flavour.1x Joe's something - 3 mini pancakes, scrambled eggs and a sausage.1x blackberry cobbler - too many seeds, but not all bad.The service and atmosphere surpassed the food, but I would go back to try the ribs one day. They say it's their specialty. But for a nice chill afternoon with good service with a smile, check it out. …Read More
