Wonderful Signature Dishes with Unforgettable Taste Penang Hokkien Mee(馬來檳城蝦麵) Penang Prawn Noodle is a shrimp based soup noodle with a mix of yellow noodle and maifun, topped with shrimp, pork, and a sprinkling of aromatic homemade fried shallots. The bean sprouts, imported from Ipoh, in this dish, is the same type as what they use in Penang. They are bigger, thicker, and crunchier than those that we have in Hong Kong. Penang Assam Laksa(阿參喇沙) Assam Laksa is a spicy, sour, tangy fish-based soup noodle, topped with shredded cucumber, pineapple, onions, lettuce and mint. Assam is the Malay word for tamarind, which is used to give the soup its sour taste. The most difficult part in the preparation of this dish is the tedious process of deboning the fish. The sprinkling of chopped ginger flower gives Penang Assam Laksa its characteristic aroma and taste. But the taste is not complete until the final addition of shrimp paste (imported from Penang), which comes served on side. |
