For my drink, I chose a pot of mountain berry tea. This arrived in a pretty cup set and the tea was very fruity in taste.
Boyfriend had the Valrhona Hot Chocolate. It came with a nice bit of latte art work. But it wasn't the thick European style hot chocolate but more like the frothy American kind. It was rich and chocolatey but yeah ... I think he was disappointed it wasn't the thick kind.
Then the set came! Oh the excitement!
They started us with Ham and Gouda Cheese Croissant. These were a bit disappointing as the croissants didn't feel very buttery or even flakey. They were a bit on the chewy side. The ham and cheese were nice but over all ... not that impressive.
Classic Shrimp Cocktail was nice though. There were three big juicy shrimp that was nicely seasoned. The salad greens were crisp as well.
Bottom Tier: Goji Berry Scone and plain scone with clotted cream, lemon curd and strawberry jam. The scones were a buttery but not as buttery as I would have liked. I liked the addition of the goji berries in one of them. I adored the lemon curd.
Middle Tier: Roast Beef and Cucumber Sandwich with Horseradish Cream, Egg Mayonnaise and Bacon Soft Roll, Smoked Salmon Crepe Roll with Herb Spread, Green Pea Tart with Comte Cheese, Foie Gras Mousse and Rhubarb Puff Pastry. These were a bit uninteresting. The best was probably the roast beef and cucumber sandwich as the combination was good and I did like the bit of horseradish added. The green pea tart was a bit dry.
Top Tier: Peach Jelly and Jasmine Tea Almond Tart, Rose Profiterole Lychee Gel Top and Raspberry Filling, Cherry Blossom Cake, Blueberry and Wild Flower Cheesecake. A few of the cakes looked a bit lopsided like they were in a rush to prepare. The cakes were ok. Though the profiterole was soggy and the lychee gel on top was chewy.
The tea set also includes unlimited waffles, crepes, ice cream and petite fours. The petite fours that day were macarons and truffles. The truffles were a bit hard. But the macarons were quite nice.
The ice cream was delicous had so many flavors to choose from.
The fruit was unlimited, too and these were really good. Very fresh and thickly cut.
Crepes adn waffles were made in huge batches so they will just give you what is already prepared to not hold up the queue. It was ok. I did like the waffle more than the crepes.
And as it was my birthday, the hotel surprised me with a birthday cake! This was delicous. A rich chocolate cake wth a bit of raspberry.
For the price, it wasn't too expensive compared to other hotel high tea. But the quality was just average. Service was nice though. And if you can't finish your high tea set, you can ask for a box to pack away to take home with you. Which is exactly what every one did.
