Went to BLT Steak for dinner with a few friends. We all ordered the Australian Rib-Eye (four medium-rares and one medium). Turns out that only three out of five steaks were cooked properly as two of the medium-rare ones looked and tasted more like they were well-done, or "dull gray meat" (the description for well-done in the menu). The worst thing was that half of that steak was actually medium-rare and the other half was overcooked. By the time my friend saw the overcooked part, she had already eaten the medium-rare part. I would recommend cutting up the steak in the middle before you start eating to see if it was cooked properly, otherwise if you find out after eating half of it, it would already be too late to ask them to cook it again!

The other genuine medium-rare steaks were alright, but not particularly impressive. There are a selection of sauces for the steaks and we tried the Bernaise, peppercorn and steak sauce. The sauces are OK. I liked the Bernaise the most. The steak sauce has some red wine in it so may come off as a bit sour.

We also ordered fries, potato gratin and creamed spinach for sharing. The fries are not on the menu but you can still order them for around $58. The fries are pretty good except the ones in the bottom of the container can get quite soggy after a while. Potato gratin was good, especially if you like cheese. It comes with a large layer of crispy cheddar cheese on the top of the gratin. Creamed spinach was so-so and one my friends thought she tasted parsley in it, so if you don't like parsley, you probably shouldn't risk it.

The steaks also came with huge yorkshire puddings, or what they call "pop overs". There's cheese on top but since I don't really like yorkshire pudding, I didn't really enjoy it. The butter that it came with was quite good though.

All in all, I wouldn't say the meal was that good and I don't think I would come back to BLT Steak again in the near future. There are lots of other steak restaurants in Hong Kong of much better quality.

Note: HSBC and AE cards have 10% discount.
