Shinko is a very homey and hearty izakaya in Mong Kok that serves really delicious skewers and grills on top of drinks.My friend and I got ourselves a glass of highball to start with. The drink didn’t taste strong, probably diluted by the melted ice. Pork with Quail Egg Skewer

Our first dish was this skewer of quail eggs wrapped with pork. The pork was perfectly grilled, wrapping hard boiled quail eggs inside, making this skewer really enjoyable and easy to share.

Puffer fish isn’t something that we usually find on a menu, that’s why we gave it a try, and it was a great choice! Glazed with grilling sauce, the puffer fish pieces were perfectly flavored. They were not as chewy as dried squid, that’s why I kept eating one piece after another. Yum!

This sea urchin fried rice seems to be Shinko’s signature, and we could see why. The creamy sea urchin and roes topped up the flavor of already very delicious fried rice, making the dish a supreme and filling one. Nice!

This Yam with cheese and mentaiko got us intrigued, that’s why we ordered one to try. This kind of yam was like freeze dried food, which was very crunchy and had a faint taste of tuber. The cheese and mentaiko were just great to add flavor to it.

Chicken skin is always my favorite skewer, therefore I must get one when I see it on the menu. Sitting at the bar table, we could see the chef picking out the hair attentively while preparing this skewer. This chicken skin skewer is probably the best one in town! It’s very crispy and flavored with grilling seasonings! Superb!
