Summary: Amazing steak for an amazing price during their summer promotion (498++ p.p). If you like steak i can't recommend it enough. A la carte otherwise is about the same price as any other steak joint, but this place knows what it's doing with beef.  Incredible fries too!I eat steak maybe once a year, but i saw this deal online and thought this might be the time. I was right. Steak on Elgin replaced Tate in the space next to the Starbucks on Elgin street, and it's a compact and cozy space that they’ve chosen to decorate cleanly and elegantly. Typical modern white tablecloth steakhouse. Service is great, and the hostess really knows her steak. I'm a bit of a steak novice so I won't bother with any fluff, on to the food! The summer steak special is 3 courses with a glass of Malbec or dessert wine – apparently, they also had no corkage for all of August, which I sadly found out about only after the dinner.Shout-out for the bread and seaweed butter! Delicious. Here’s the Grilled Kagoshima Chicken  Salad for two people:Chicken was nicely-roasted and the salad dressing was a nice balsamic, but it won’t set your world on fire.30 day Dry Aged Bone-In Rib Eye for 2 Amazingly juicy, incredible umami on the outside from the Maillard, and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. Served with a superfluous serving of Bernaise sauce, this is one of those steaks where every bite is a journey – the savory crunch of the outside, into the juicy richness of the inside, it’s just a wow in every way.Hand Cut FriesSorry we ate so many before I remembered to take a pic – simply fantastic fries. Crunchy outside and pillowy inside, we demolished the entire bowl. Apple Crumble with rum and vanilla semi-freddoWhat it looks like but the semi-freddo is a bit lighter, and the apples a bit more tart that you’d expect. Pretty darn good.Overall, a fantastic value for 550 p.p with a glass of wine and possibly free corkage (check before you go). Satisfied with the quantity and variety, and the steak is beyond delicious.  For any meat lovers,  you should definitely be trying Steak on Elgin’s summer special while it lasts. Even after it’s over though, Steak on Elgin has more than earned the right to be your regular steakhouse as well.Read More

Passed by this place and quickly decided on our dinner tonight. As the name of the restaurant has clearly indicated, their signature dish here is STEAK.This dry-aged grass fed British beef was full flavoured with an amazing texture. No additional flavours are needed.Read More

Absolutely impressed by both the service and especially the quality of food, particularly the speciality of the house British steak. Having spent 32 years in HK,, 20 years in Japan and traveled throughout  US/Europe/So America on business and always searching for great steak, this place  offered by far the best I've ever had.The quality of the meat  itself was excellent - I didn't know British beef  could be so special - and the unique approach to  cooking it here resulted in a superb taste treat.  And the side dishes were  equally good - the french fries with the associated dip  were to die for! -Certainly not cheap but by no means out of the HK ball park and  well justified  by  the quality and taste.Read More

Good steak, poor sommelier. We had a boys night out. between 6 of us we spent over 20k on food/wine. It wasn't cheap. We had 4 bottles of one of which was a 1998 Chateaneu du-pape. It was obviously corked. The wine tasted like vinegar. The sommelier or whoever it was serving the wine admitted that it had "oxidised" tones, but insisted he tried it himself and was unwilling to admit it was corked. I didn't want to ruin the atmosphere so didn't make a big fuss, but my other friends also admitted that it tasted "funky". When he took away my untouched glass I even saw him sniffing the glass (obviously he hadn't tried - I mean how could he have?). Anyway all I want to say was the steak was decent, but we spent a lot on wine; and there's no shame in having corked wines; it happens frequently, but as a restaurant if you serve a bad wine you freakin admit to it and either  refund it our provide another bottle rather than bluntly trying to insist the wine is fine. I like the steak, but don't expect me to go back anytime soon.Read More

Thank you for sharing your generally positive experience with us at Steak on Elgin .We are sorry to hear that one bottle of Beaucastel 1998 did not provide absolute delight to you , we pride ourselves on being wine-lovers ourselves and operate a no questions asked replacement policy however on this occasion the host at your table was satisfied with the condition of the bottle .Having personally tasted the bottle in question before and after service I would clarify that the bottle was definitely not corked , it was instead in the very early stages of oxidation , a stage that many knowledgeable wine lovers enjoy for its added umami/tertiary flavours and which both my highly experienced colleague and I considered fit for serving .We specialise in offering more mature wines than most Hong Kong * and at no time would we consider a corked wine acceptable for service , nor a wine that was heavily oxidised , however in our professional opinion the bottle in question was acceptable , delicious and was indeed tasted & accepted by the wine knowledgeable host of your table .That said we thank you again for your comments , we have enhanced our policy regarding slightly oxidised wines going forward and will always clarify with our valued guests before serving any bottles that are exhibiting bottle variation .The appreciation of fully mature wines is not for all , it does bring challenges , learning experiences , disappointments and delights along the way , I hope you will continue along your wine journey .We look forward to welcoming you back to Steak on Elgin for more mature wines and Great British beef !

Read More

Read More

Very glad to be the first one writing a review on this restaurant. I've been looking for a nice little steak place and found this place. Not the easiest place to find! The place is indeed quite British as some of the food they serve, such a yorkshire pudding, is rather uncommon in Hong Kong. Started with a steak tartare. Not very interesting. And then octopus, which I thought the dressing was a little bitter. And then the beef to share. Could be better. Monkfish as well which I actually didn't try Delicious carrots. And the beloved yorkshire pudding! All in all this is actually quite a decent place, they have all sorts of wine glasses so this would make a nice wine restaurant. However, I thought the food was only so-so and there could be improvements if you asked me. Another thing I would worry about is the fact that I didn't think any of the dishes were amazing or really special. I'll probably come try again sometime. Hopefully they will have improved by then!Read More
