Everything out of Munchies' kitchen is natural, GMO free and organic, which is a big healthy plus for all the sinful goodies. They handcraft their ice cream, cookies and donuts. *Wrote a huge paragram when the app just quit on me.It feels like an eternity since i've had donuts in my mouth, and since krispy cream is out of the equation, the chances of you getting donuts in hong kong is pretty slim. So imagine the crave and expectations when you find out about a shop that sells donuts in hong kong. You'd flip out.Teh shop is pretty hidden in sheung wan, if your google map doesn't fail you, you'd get there from the A2 exit in no time (unlike mine which just decided to not work at all.....) The environment is quite nifty, quiet with graffitis on the alley walls is just hip enough for a donut shop .The female barista greeted with a warm welcome and gave me an short introduction of their donuts, they said their donuts were organic (which triggered my first alarm)To be fair, I’m a simple dude, I just want donuts, plain, simple with some cinnamon on top preferably hot and a bit doughy together with a cup of coffee would just make my day. But when I asked, they actually don’t serve regular donuts but only ones with icing,(*now this is crucial, donuts with icing usually taste stale, I usually just call them bagels with icing because it taste like bread, I should have left at that point, but I just needed donuts) She then recommended me the mimosa ice cream with earl grey icing donuts, Donuts with ice cream sounds great on paper and should be the new bread and butter, I’m surprised why no one’s done it before.Well, here’s why, it just doesn’t work.unless you have a massive sweet tooth, you’d probably don’t want to eat sweet things after this, the icing on the donuts are just fighting with the ice cream, in fact you can actually taste the ice cream losing the battle in your mouth and being overpowered by the earl grey icing. The mimosa ice cream itself would taste incredible when eaten separately, the slight scent of lemon is just perfect for this season. But now sandwiched between the donut, I just can’t taste what it was supposedly to be, which leads me to the donut. It taste like a bagel, because of the ice cream. Like watching 2 beautiful people in an abusive relationship, just tearing each other apart. They should just offered plain donuts for this donut sandwich, or are they covering stale donuts with icing? Hmmmm And furthermore, for a donut THIS sweet, it really doesn’t matter how organic your ingredients are, you’re still gonna gain weight or diabetes after this.And to charge a donut sandwich and a cup of coffee and hundred bucks?Only a hipster or a fool would pay that money.Another thing, I was having my treat across the table with a young teenage couple that just won’t stop making out, which made the experience even more awkward.Will I visit again? This place is quite isolated and difficult to find amidst the uphill streets in Sheung Wan. My friend recommended this place to me and after seeing her delicious photos I came here to try out their famous donut ice cream sandwiches.We ordered a Lemon Cheesecake Donut + Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich and also an Earl Grey Donut + Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwich.The donuts were very delicious, the earl grey scent was very heavy and satisfying, and it paired very nicely with the chocolate ice cream that we had. Their ice cream are all homemade and it was delicious for something homemade. 近月來, 城中突然間跑出了雪糕三文治這甜點. 不是說Häagen-Dazs的雪糕三文治, 而是兩塊曲奇夾著一球雪糕的雪糕三文治. 這兩天, 讓我把當中的兩家店也寫一下, 作個對比. 今天先講的是munchies.munchies位處善慶街, 其實就是勝香園隔離街. 店子有兩層, 閣樓的位置供客人堂食, 買雪糕就在樓下的地方. 兩個餅櫃, 第一個放的是donut及曲奇, 另外一個就是放雪糕.Ice-cream Sammies $70: 3分, 一心來吃雪糕三文治, 當然就選來Ice-cream Sammies, 一客$70, 坦白講, 相當貴. 先揀曲奇, 分別選來Earl Grey以及Matcha White Chocolate. 至於中間的雪糕球, 就選來Earl Grey.這個雪糕三文治, 第一個問題是雪糕太容易溶掉了. 因為這裡除了雪糕三文治, 也有單雙球雪糕供應, 或許要顧及剩吃雪糕的客人, 雪糕不會雪得太冰太硬, 結果我們拿起不足半分鐘已經開始在溶, 更是越溶越快. 其實這個溫度的雪糕, 只是適合單點雪糕, 不太適合用來做雪糕三文治. 雪糕本身的質感也不夠香滑, 還好是伯爵茶香夠突出.第二個問題, 就是曲奇不夠脆身, 當雪糕開始溶掉的時候, 曲奇就更加淋, 很難入口了. 其實曲奇本身的味道是幾突出的, 伯爵茶香幾濃, 抹茶跟白朱古力的平衡也幾好, 只是敗在質感.munchies的Ice-cream Sammies, 雪糕太容易溶, 不足半分鐘已經開始在溶, 而曲奇亦不夠脆身, 雪糕溶掉之後曲奇就更加淋, 實在是吃得狼狽之餘, 整體效果也強差人意. 唯一可取的是店內設有洗手盤, 方便大家一手都係的時候, 能夠盡快清洗. 唉.明天介紹的另外一家雪糕三文治就有完全不同的成績. 待續.…Read More

Donuts + Ice Cream? Salted Caramel + Chocolate? Wow, this is the perfect combination of a power packed sinfulness in one. My perfect guilty pleasure. Found out this newly opened shop near Gough street and decided to have a try. The shop is minimalist with a hint of industrial feel and has a 2nd storey whereby you can draw to your hearts content on their chalkboard walls. The display counters are filled with donuts of various flavours and I am exceptionally drawn to the salted caramel flavour crust, which is my absolute favourite. It's another organic and healthy dessert shop where you can choose your own combination of ice cream flavors with cookies and donuts. I've been here a few times but they never seem to have what I want like the matcha ice cream or donut so I decided to get the earl grey ice cream with matcha white chocolate and 2x chocolate cookies (HK$70). The ice cream and cookies were not bad by themselves but didn't really work well together as the ice cream melted really quickly and the cookies tasted really sweet together.
