Food was very tasty and I can tell that it was made with a lot of effort. Each skewer dish tasted unique and tasty! Highly recommend uni ebi grilled king prawn and beef foie gras rice and kurobuta belly.Seat is very limited though so make sure you book before coming.I’m very picky and rarely write a review but this is good quality food and will definitely come back again!!

…Read More

"Friday's the best day in the weekday", that's what one of the customers at our workplace said yesterday. And just when I was about to time out of my workplace, my boss ends up ruining my day by blaming me for something stupid - my Friday - and I'm not the kind who can easily let negative words slide off of me. So when I was tram-ing back to my apartment, I remember there was a newly opened Japanese shop that I bookmarked in OR. I got off the tram and headed there to hopefully get some late night snack to cool me down. When I got there, I saw this being advertised outside their small but cozy-looking shop.A man, rather, one of the owners who was wearing a suit and a pair of glasses, immediately stepped out and sales talked me to come inside and try their food. He didn't really need to as I was already planning to go inside nevertheless. The shop only has 7 seats so large groups aren't really recommended. When I was ushered in, I feel like I came in on a soft opening day. It seems like the bosses' friends came in to try their meals and comment how they were. If my novice level Cantonese serves me right, this shop was created by a couple of brothers who love Japanese food and decided to open one. They also like to "monkey" around sometimes, hence the company name. The brothers are all friendly looking people. They're also very charismatic. If you can speak decent Cantonese, you hit them up for a good long chat. Their menu is offered both in Chinese and in English. You can ask for the English one by request, or they'll immediately give it to you if you obviously look like a Westerner.I was told that their tea time meals are being offered at night as well, at the same price. It was late at night and I only wanted something light. I chose the Chicken Salad ($52). It took some time to get my salad to come but it just tells you how fresh and made-in-house their meals are. While I was waiting for awhile, the suits wearing boss offered me miso soup and said that it's included with my order. When I saw this, I was immediately appalled because usually when a shop wants to imitate Japanese food, they end up being MSG-salty or are just bad and bland. But to my surprise, it tasted as good as the one I had when I was in Canada. It tasted very real, well-made and had no hint of MSG. Even when I returned back to my apartment 30 minutes later, I didn't feel a hint of after effect. It washed away my irritation against my boss that night and I felt horribly ashamed for thinking bad about their food a second ago. The bowl had plenty of chives, which I really love and appreciate, and when I mixed it up, it didn't even show any poorly mixed miso paste in water. There were even soft and bouncy tofu cubes and had a good amount of seaweed. After waiting some more, my salad finally came. The presentation was good and it would have been nice if they presented it in a plate like how the customers had theirs. Was it because I was an outsider to their soft opening or is it because they were close to closing time that they didn't want to wash any more plates? I really don't know the reason but whatever. It had a fresh tomato cut into two and two slices of cucumbers, plenty of greens and 4 to 5 slices of chicken garnished with chives and sesame sauce. The depthness of the salad.Beautifully made pieces of chicken.I was really satisfied with the taste. Not a hint of sourness or was there any bad taste in it at all. The chef knows what he's doing.I searched at their photos in OR and saw their gyoza. I felt like something was lacking after my salad. My stomach wanted to eat more so I ordered it. Five pieces of gyoza priced at $32. I asked for it from the suits owner and he smiled at me gleefully, he was definitely super happy that I ordered more. Their gyoza is a little smaller than what I saw in their photos but I didn't mind. All I care are the taste and quality. The skin was a little thick that what I'd hope but it's still good nevertheless. The meat inside is also good and delicious. There was no fillers in any of them too!Cash only. There is no 10% service charge. I really love that they serve quality and homemade food. They really take care of their food and their customers' happiness. I hope that this shop is here to last for decades to come and that this kind of quality service is here to stay consistently and forever. It's really hard finding a shop that offers excellent food and well-appreciated customer service. The price might be a little above average for some but it shows in their food and in their customer service. Even though the other brothers can't speak English, they still show effort in making me feel at ease at their shop from start to end. Afterall, one of them, was kind enough to hand me their English menu after knowing I can't speak their language.…Read More
