I specially like the risotto there. Cooked with red wine, different kinds of mushrooms, superb. Another nice surprise tonight was that the owner of the restaurant is actually sociologist by training. We talked about one of the great travellers in history Ibn Battuta. He appreciates different cultures and values customers with good manners. Spoiled ones won't feel welcomed there, haha. continue reading

Il Moro is from far the best italian restaurant in Hong Kong. I am french and used to go to Italy for holidays, and even in Italy it is difficult to find food of such quality at this price!Fortunately I can see good comments but currently most of them are mediocre which in my mind is clearly unfair.I really really like the owner. He is always generous and fair. I understand you may have been bothered by his way of being but you definitely can t have been disappointed by his food. Food is delicious, really delicious and people who say the contrary just don t know italian food. I definitely recommend this restaurant. For once in HK there is a authentic restaurant with good product and talented chef not trying to overcharge mediocre foodloveundecent price. Don t try to spoil this just because it was not what you expected. It is a rare gem and we all need to support him instead of cutting this wonderful business. continue reading

Authentic Italian, with great pastas, salads, fish, and meat dishes, and some middle Eastern dishes as well. My favorite is the lamb shank tagine, with dried prunes and almonds, served with string beans. The owner Joseph is quite the character, which frankly is Moro's raison d'être. Enjoy the food and don't take him to seriously. continue reading

Extremely disappointed. Experience took a downturn when we encountered the guy who claimed to be the proprietor of the place. If you wanted to be verbally abused by an unstable proprietor and eat at best mediocre italian food, you can visit this place with fair warning. he was horribly verbally abusive to another diner as well and chased him out of the restaurant. Proprietor seems mentally unstable. I would not recommend this place to anybody. continue reading

Having been on the hunt for Italian food that reminds me of flavours from home, my husband and I decided to go to "IL Moro" for a special celebration dinner. This has, by far, been the worst dining experience I have ever had. The food was repellently awful and unpalatable ( to the point that we spent 1200 HKD on dinner, without being able to finish the served food). WorstRisotto I have ever tasted in my life ( tasted like porridge mixed with a horrible cream). We ordered the Ossobucco Special ( Mind you, I was so excited about this and was really looking forward to it ). the so-called "Ossobucco" Special and was served all fat on bones in a flavorless brown sauce and overloaded with undercooked carrots.Everyone has a bad dining experience once in a while. It is nothing out of the ordinary. One forgets usually the next day itself. However, what is out of the ordinary is the manner in which the owner, named Escobar treats his customers. He behaves like a lawless 10 year old with no sense of propriety or manners. Top notch service quality is the last thing on mind, when the Signore "Douchebag" Escobar ( appropriately named by another reviewer) can barely keep it together and is verbally abusive to his customers ( to demonstrate, he started hurling abuses and profanities at another poor young man who was dining there, simply because he asked for a specific cheese). He did the same with us when we asked him how some of the food had been cooked. Lastly, Escobar does not give you a bill or a receipt. He only mentions the amount you need to pay at the end of the meal. Signore "Douchebag" Escobar is a shame and a menace to the restaurant and service culture in Hong Kong. Someone needs to shut down his new establishment, just the way they did with his old one in Sheung wan. continue reading
