After a morning at the beach, my friends and I decided to go to Cyberport to catch a movie but unfortunately, the schedules didn't do us any good and all the movies were full. Basically, we sat down at a bar called "Beer" and then got hungry so we asked the waiter whether they served food. Unexpectedly, he said we could just order off the menu from the Shanghai restaurant next door and that's when we got excited because we were famished (I love Shanghai cuisine!)

The first thing that came was the Chicken & Cucumber Wide Glass Noodles mixed with sesame sauce. It was cool and refreshing making it a fantastic appetizer after a good swim at the beach. The sauce was exceptional because it was rich, creamy, and seasoned perfectly with strong sesame aromas. LOVE!

The sweet and sour soup is VERY spicy. For those who can't take spicy food, do not order this. But since I can take it, I find this a pretty nice soup compared to a lot of the ones I had before. It's not the best, but it had a lot of ingredients in it, lots of flavours, and it's not too overly sour.

The first impression I got when I saw the Steamed Dumplings arrive was that the skin was too thick--it probably wouldn't taste that great. HOWEVER, when I actually tried it, the skin was actually quite fine and the insides was bursting with soup.
I was in heaven (or maybe I was just hungry) and yes, this is definitely worth a try because the meat tasted really juicy and delicious.

The Shanghai stir-fried noodles was the perfect ending to the whole meal. It had enough flavor but not too rich so that you'll get that "too-full-type-of-feeling", and my friends and I devoured the whole dish.

Overall, even though I wasn't "literally" dining at this Shanghai's restaurant (I was sitting at the bar next door), I really enjoyed it. The price was average approximately $130/person so it wasn't too pricey, but most importantly, I didn't expect to find anything too special at Cyberport. I guess I was wrong, there's always hidden gems somewhere.

I would like to share an unpleasant dinner I had last night (20/12/12) at the Dynastie Shanghai Restaurant.

Last night, I arrived at the restaurant at about seven o’clock with my husband. I told the captain I made a reservation via funshare by email as instructed on the voucher and showed him the confirmation. The captain insisted that he had not received any reservation under my name, so I showed him the reply from funshare which indicated that my reservation had been confirmed. To my surprise, the captain yelled at us, telling us they would not serve us because they had not prepared the food and they had not received my reservation. I said it was not my fault because I had made the reservation followed by the instructions given on the voucher by the funshare. I didn’t quite understand why we could not be served as there were only a few customers and the cuisine that was served was not uncommon. It was just some hairy crab fat dumpling served in most Shanghai restaurants. Finally, he let us in with an ignorant attitude. It was like I had committed a big mistake and that was his generosity to let us be served.

Then, I asked him if it was the first time that happened under the booking via funshare. He said no and told us it was the third time. Then, after a while, another waitress came and asked us to leave because we had not made any reservation. I told her it had been the third times that I told them I had made the reservation and asked the waitress to confirm it with the captain. Afterwards, the captain came forward and asked me the phone number. So I asked him why he didn’t complain it to the funshare because it had kept making the same mistakes again and again. He replied me rudely and growled that he would not complain and if I wanted to complain, I would have to complain it myself. His impolite attitude really irritated the customers nearby, including me.

I have paid the money for just a fine dining but what I had got was a mess and horrible experience. I know the use of selling meals at funshare is to attract more customers to try the restaurant but with such an ill-mannered Captian, Mr. Cheung, I think it not only ruins the reputation of the restaurant, but also a waste of money.

We order from this place religiously. From a remote location, the food is surprisingly fresh and comparable to a solid Shanghai-nese restaurant downtown. The meat dishes are not as good as the vegetable ones. The noodles are soft but not mushy, and the buns are simply the best!
