Drove past this several times and wanted to check it out for awhile. Finally had time to go for dinner this evening. The setting was nice with a fantastic view of the beach, however I was disappointed on arrival with the lack of service. There was no one to greet me at the entrance, and after standing there for around 5 minutes I finally asked the woman at the counter who told me it was free seating with self ordering at the counter. I found this at odds to the nice restaurant atmosphere they are trying to create. After we sat down there was no one to give us any utensils, only when we specifically asked after the first dish arrived did we get some bowls and utensils. Waiter's attention is hard to get and they seem to ignore you and walk by even when you are waving at them for attention.  We ordered Tom yum gai, yellow curry chicken, pad Thai and morning glory vegetable. The Tom yum gai was too salty and sour and was too diluted. The morning glory vegetable too hot with too many chili and the curry chicken tastes like hong kong style curry more than Thai food. The pad Thai was the best dish out of all and at least deserves recommendation. Overall the restaurant has a nice view but that's about it. Expect zero service and average food quality. We spent 328 in total for 2 which would have been reasonable if it weren't for the bottled water ( no tap or free water available) which costs $20 each! Way too expensive for this fast food quality restaurant I think. continue reading

Half our order was delivered to the wrong table, the food was low grade takeaway quality at restaurant prices, the waitress was apologetic but, from the other reviews here, it's pretty clear that our experience was not unique.Been for lunch since and it was great so maybe it's just erratic rather than just bad.The new location is great early evening. If you were a fan of copacabana you'll be weeping though, the decor is definitely "municipal", the service chaotic and the food very average and overpriced. My advice, go for an early evening drink, consider a snack but don't go here with hopes of a great dinner. continue reading

I was a fan of Coco Thai in it's original Deep Water Bay location, but I won't be revisiting it at it's new location down the road (it has taken over from where Coco Cabana used to be).The decor and comfort are set by the standard-issue benches from the Culture and Leisure Services dept. It seems that the original chef has been moved to the Ap Lei Chau branch, and the new chef can't reproduce the basic's of the menu. The Thai Pomelo salad was a disaster, the lime soda at once too sweet and too bitter, the pineapple rice was plain...And despite being empty, the service was completely lacklustre - about 15 minutes to even greet us, and then dishes arrived in dribs and drabs, with the final one taking over an hour to arrive. So sad. continue reading

I ordered the 'Homemade burger' ($60), but despite being listed as 'homemade', the patty was deep-fried from frozen. It was also gross, and the onions (also prepared from frozen), were as slimy as they look. The bun was so hard, it was literally tough to bite through, though whether this was because it was stale, or also (partially) cooked from frozen, I'm not sure.Massively overpriced (usually I would complain about its small size, but I didn't even want to eat what I had), and my worst eating experience in HK.Avoid. continue reading

continue reading
