// custard chocolate eclair //When I saw this in the store display, I was a bit contemplated because I was afraid that it would turn out to be gimmicky and artificial tasting but I was wrong! I’m glad I was wrong because now this is one of my fav comfort food/ dessert. It has so many textures which is why it’s so perfect. The outer chocolate layer is crunchy and has a crunch to every bite. The eclair dough is soft and chewy. The custard filling inside is so very creamy and milky. Honestly so good. continue reading

I’m a fan of A1 bakery for they do a variety of desserts and pastry goods at such an affordable price. Have tried their custard cheese cake and we loved their balance of salt and cheese. This time we opted for the aromari apple pie ($58) and it was the last one on offer so of course we knew that must be good by the tell-tell sign. The crispy and buttery outmost layer was my favourite part, coupled with the bite size apple mash and crunchy apple layer, isn’t this heavenly for apple lovers including myself? The next almond layer brings the whole pie to a while new level, introducing such novelty to the dessert itself. I also bought custard cream to pair with the pie and it was such a wise choice, I recommend it to any of you going for this amazing dessert! Although this pie is not very large, it’s certainly a worthwhile investment. continue reading

As I walked back home one day, a cardboard poster really caught my eye - it was promoting the newly limited Strawberry and Mixed Berry Napoleon. Because dinner was already prepared that day, I could only get it on another day. I had a premonition that this would be a hot seller so I phoned the bakery and asked if I could reserve a cake for pick up an hour later, the staff gladly accepted my request and this got me to the realisation that it was the last Napoleon for the day! How lucky was I! The cake albeit unlike any typical cream / sponge cake out there, still managed to make me very excited to take a bite off it cause of the three succinct and special layers that were advertised. The top layer had strawberries and mixed berries aesthetically laid out with icing on the side. The each subsequent layers were in total 64 crunchy layers, this showed the amount of effort that’s required in building this cake. Wedged between the layers was homemade custard which was soft and sticky. I’m gonna nitpick a little here, if the custard was filled closer to the frame of the layers it would have been better as you couldn’t really taste the layers with the cream unless you dug deeper into the centre. We didn’t buy this cake for any kind of celebration, it was a spontaneous thought and it turned out to be amazing. The Napoleon was carefully packaged just so it didn’t fall while being taken back home and there was some weight to it so it felt nice while holding this “sculpture” haha! It was also very picturesque so do take photos of / with it~ continue reading
