For Kee Restaurant

Known for its iconic pork chop rice, For Kee is the CCT (cha chaan teng) to go for local comfort food when you’re in Sheung Wan. There was a long line of regulars and tourists when we came for late lunch, but luckily the queue moved quite quickly. All the staff were really friendly and accommodating - plus there’s even an English menu for foreigners. The pork chop was ridiculously tender and substantial while I absofreakinlutely LOVE soy sauce on plain old white rice. Our only complaint is that they could have added in some veggies to make this a more balanced meal.Tbh we were a little disappointed by this as the tomato soup was not rich nor flavorful enough. It’s best to stick to Sing Heung Yuen instead (just a 7-min walk away) I was craving for something sweet to end our meal, but I accidentally mixed up regular toast with French toast when ordering. I often passed by this shop whenever I went exploring Sheung Wan, but had never really paid attention to it, until one friend told me that this shop is famous for their pork chop. And so, I decided to pay it a visit.Judging from its appearance, this shop has a substantial historical background in Sheung Wan. It is a very Hong Kong style restaurant, I would say. They also has an adorable cat, ‘guarding’ in front of the shop. Many customers love cuddling it.Be sure to go early before their peak hour, because they have limited seats while people still love going there for lunch.I ordered their famous pork chop rice, with hot milk tea. Some would say that the pork chop rice is just like any other ordinary pork chop rice that you can get outside. But to me, I think the pork chop was very well-marinated and every bite was so tender and flavorful. It also had this subtle ‘honey’ sweetness to it. This dish was very simple indeed, but it is always this kind of simple dish that makes you feel homely. If you want me to comment what can be improved, I would definitely love to have the meat more juicy.To me, I think their pork chop is even better than the one in Macau.
