Aimed at recognizing the most outstanding and popular selected restaurants over the past year, the yearly ‘OpenRice Best Restaurant Awards 2019’ Prize Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 9th May at the Hotel ICON in Tsim Sha Tsui. It was a great pleasure to have representatives from award-winning restaurants and renowned gourmands participated in the ceremony to witness the 28 Best Restaurant Awards in town.
Someone loves traditional food, some people love new taste. Hong Kong is a gourmet city. Even a historic restaurant or new branches, they bring a lot of excellent food to HongKongers. The theme of this year is “An age-old mission of new taste discovery, Two decades of OpenRice: passing of culinary heritage between generations”. Besides treasuring classic taste, people can follow trendy food also.
During the 4-week public election, over 120,000 votes were cast, in which 78 restaurants from Hong Kong and 10 restaurants from Macau were selected as award winners. This year ‘Classic Restaurant Awards’ has been introduced to the ceremony. Operating restaurant is a great challenge in Hong Kong. Some restaurants have stayed over several decades. We can pay respect to their persistence and help us to retain traditional taste.
Notice that there are many new restaurants and overseas branches set up in Hong Kong and some of them on the awards list. Meanwhile, it is great to see that many local small eateries are on our winner list. It reflects Hong Kong foodies possess a wide range of preferences and tastes, and are willing to appreciate different cuisine and gourmet. They also give a great support to local small eateries. It brings positive sign to the dining scene in Hong Kong.
