When I first heard of the Double Down, it was from a food blog in the US that discusses really weird food that is simply unbelievable. When KFC HK announced that they were bringing this insane beast across the ocean, there was only one thing my North American friends could think of. We got to go. And yes, we seriously messaged this "It's HERE! DOUBLE DOWN!"
I was with boyfriend and a couple of other male friends who were in Tsuen Wan as they prepared to go for a hike. As it was so hot outside, I opted to skip this hike and met them for lunch before they headed out. What were we to eat? One thing came to our mouths. DOUBLE DOWN! And we headed to the nearest KFC.
The double down here is diffferent than the one in the US. Instead of a weiner, Hong Kong serves theirs with bacon and a slice of processed cheese and what appeas to be mayo? As we bit into it, we all agreed. It's not as bad as we expected. But it could be better. Where was the weiner? And why the mayo? What is with the addition of mayo? The chicken wasn't the crispy kind, too. It could have been better. But it was not disgusting.
The double down came with a set that included tortilla crisps and cheese sauce. These were really bad. The chips were chewy and definitely cold. At least the cheese sauce was ok as processed cheese is.
Over all, ok. Could have been better. Wish it was exactly like the one in the US.
