Tsui Wah offers Hong Kong Western canteen fare at an above-average price. For anyone who's never been, that means they have put things like sandwiches, ramen, curries, fried rice, soups, and pasta all on the same menu. Like my favorite diners abroad, this Chung On Street location is open 24 hours so that visitors can load up on their favorite comfort foods whenever the cravings strike. Fat Friends, I'm going to tell you about the Malaysian Beef Brisket Curry. Sure, you've had it before, but this particular branch is notoriously generous with its beef tendon. There's nothing like sitting down to a heaping bowl of curry that is half beef and half tendon, dotted with bright-red pools of floating chili oil. Rice comes on a separate plate, and there's so much of it that my husband and I both struggle at times to finish it all.

The main tasted like tomato bisque tossed with beef and onions; I'm not even going to touch what constitutes an authentic Stroganoff as there are so many global variations, but it was quite a nice interpretation. My soup arrived somewhat later with a biscuit, but sadly I was hardly able to taste it over all the acidic tomato sauce. I do wish someone could clarify for me whether it really was a pumpkin soup or just a mis-translated butternut squash. I'm guessing the Chinese language doesn't really distinguish between all the Western squash varieties that exist.
