Earlier this week, godbro XO told me that he has to pick up some tango shoes in Shau Kei Wan on Friday, so I asked him if he has tried Chef Recommendation Restaurant's award-winning minced pork, and he said no and he's interested in trying!  So, we decided to meet up for dinner after he picked up his shoes.Godbro went to the restaurant from the Shau Kei Wan MTR station, and I got my brother to join us for dinner so we could have a couple more dishes and he can drive me to the restaurant!Chef Rec

Godbro went to the restaurant from the Shau Kei Wan MTR station, and I got my brother to join us for dinner so we could have a couple more dishes and he can drive me to the restaurant!

Chef Recommendation Restaurant is located in a residential area, so it was a little surprising that a local joint had this award-winning dish!  We got to the restaurant around 6:30, and it was already half-filled, and later, we heard the hostess tell patrons that they have 2 hours to complete their meals, which means this restaurant is very popular!

We were seated in a booth, and even my chubster brother didn't find the seating to be too tight for his big belly.  The setup of the restaurant is similar to char charn tangs, and they had the menus on the table already.

It was interesting to see a local restaurant listing orange juice as oj! Lol!

We decided to order a few Chiu Chow dishes and also the award-winning minced pork.

We ordered a 2-way Chiu Chow style marinated goose with a combination of goose slices and goose intestines.  Also, my brother and I ordered an egg to split between the two of us.

The goose slices were tender and infused with the soy sauce marinade.  The vinegar that came with the dish neutralized the oiliness of the goose and made it less heavy.
The goose intestines had a nice crunchy texture since the fat had been scraped off them.
The marinade was not as strong in the egg, but on a positive note, the egg was not overcooked and tough like most soy sauce eggs.

The restaurant is also famous for the oyster omelet, which is named 爆花蠔餅, which literally means exploding flower oyster cake.  That is the way the oyster omelet was presented; the garnish on top looked like scattered flower petals.

The first thing that caught our eyes was the size of the oysters!  They were large and plump for an oyster omelet.  The restaurant didn't skim on the amount of oysters either!  The omelet had a good balance between egg and flour, so it had the crispiness from the egg being fried and the fluffyness of the flour without being mushy.  It's one of the best oyster omelets I've ever had, where the oysters are really fresh, and it was not fishy at all!

Next came the award-winning minced pork.  We had 5 choices of sidekick for the pork cake, and we chose the cuttlefish!

The minced pork is named 爆牙肉餅, which literally means explode tooth pork cake, and we understood what they meant by explode tooth when we took a bite of the minced pork.  There were ligament pieces that are mixed into the minced pork which gave it a crunchy texture within the soft minced pork.  Once again, the restaurant didn't skim on the amount of cuttlefish, and the top of the minced pork was filled with cuttlefish pieces that had a nice chew to it, and they were not like rubberbands, which is what cuttlefish turns into if it's overcooked!

My two brothers decided that they wanted to get a porridge, and godbro picked the oyster one!

Once again, the oysters were large and plump in the porridge.  The broth of the porridge was savory, and the parsley highlighted the freshness of the oyster flavor.

In my attempt to get the boys to eat more veggies, I ordered the tung choi with fermented bean curd.

After checking out the restaurant, we decided to pick up some take outs for mom who stayed home that night.

Chef Recommenation Restaurant serves delicious Chiu Chow style food, and we wouldn't have stumbled upon it if I didn't see it listed as an award-winning restaurant on the discover Hong Kong website since the restaurant is tucked away in a residential neighborhood!
